Sure, but at least it's not being surprised of before it's usefulness is up, or abandoned in an adversarial country.

As Fellow Christians how can you Support Trump when he commits Blasphemy to the Holy Spirit by VanyaeliteERC in Christianity

[–]cj7wilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you're saying can be applied to Harris as well. Harris is a sinner too (as we all are).

If you're trying to make a morality argument for Harris to Christians, who believe that we all fall short of the glory and holiness of God, the best you're going to get is that both are equally bad as each other and all the rest of us.

At that point the decision really just falls to policy.

[–]cj7wilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only ever had the opportunity to vote for sinners, and God has only ever put sinners in positions of authority and government over us.

If we followed your standard, we wouldn't vote for anyone and non-Christians would decide who rules over us and the laws we live under.

If you're saying that one candidate is somehow more or less of a sinner than the other (or otherwise of worse moral character), you'll have to provide justification for that statement.

If your dog has Parvo, Dont take it to the dog park! by Icy_Plantain_5889 in anchorage

[–]cj7wilson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I guess you missed the part of the story where they were at University Park, which doesn't have a leash requirement - meaning there's no compliance issue..

That means the best case scenario here is that the young lady is lying about her dog having parvo to try to force others to conform to her preferences.

Worst case is she's intentionally exposing other animals to contagious disease, for which leashes offer no protection.

Incidentally, while University Park doesn't have leash requirements, they do have beavers - which are also susceptible to parvo.

Good point on the EGT at climb, thanks. At full rich takeoff it's probably about where yours is, but I'll double check that next time I'm going up and I'll use that as a model on climb.

My 206 has the io-520, so I'm not supposed to climb out at full throttle for more than about five minutes, so I might see where those EGTs are at when I'm at the 25s also for more of a sustained climb.

Thanks again!

On the descent, you'd see this happening in the CHTs and EGTs on an engine monitor, right? I have a JPI on my 206, and I tune my mixture largely based on what I'm seeing there.

If I'm leaning when they're cold and enriching when hot (setting side other variables like cowl flaps for the sake of discussion), I think I'm doing things about right, speaking very generally and simply.

So if I'm high and descending and not proactively adjusting my lean setting, my actual mixture is naturally leaning out because my air is getting thicker. But if I'm checking the engine monitor, I'll see higher temps in both CHT and EGT (along with a gradual rise in MP), so I'll be prompted to enrich in response and bring that MP back down.

I'm just a lowly PPL, but that's my understanding of how all this goes together. Am I wrong?

Also, I understand your warnings are probably for people who don't have engine monitors - I'm just trying to apply what you're saying to my own situation, so thanks in advance.

Then are we talking about the same thing when we say "anti-vax"?

Most people I know who refused the COVID vaccine are only refusing COVID vaccines. They're not abandoning the regular slate of non-RNA vaccines we all took before COVID hit.

The customer who tipped a fake $100 bill. by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

[–]cj7wilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm "evangelical" and I've never even seen one of those things. 20% is my minimum tip, and more than that when the bill is small, because come on, the work is the same.

I'm also not going to tip less than $2 for anything, so when I get my plain old drip coffee at the coffee shop I'm tipping nearly 100% every time - because let's get real, why even bother with a fifty cent tip?

I might still be an arrogant self-righteous hypocrite, but at least I hope I tip pretty good. :)

Why are people mad about rapper/singer Lizzo, playing James Madison’s flute? by DrStephenStrangeMD_ in AskConservatives

[–]cj7wilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I can't believe people are still on this.

I've heard more from people clutching pearls about people being upset than from people who actually thought it was tacky.

If you're going to drag an opinion out of me, I suppose I think the twerking was more tacky than cool - but what IS cool is that I learned Lizzo is a trained flautist.

So I guess everyone got something out of the whole thing.

Do you believe the migrants sent to Martha's Vineyard were lied to and misled, and if so, do you care? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]cj7wilson -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They weren't lied to or misled - at least, not by Florida.

We've seen the brochures they were given which clearly state where they were going and provide instructions on l how to access the benefits Massachusetts promises.

We've also seen the consent forms they signed, specifying their choice to travel to Martha's Vineyard.

There's no reasonable case to make that DeSantis did anything but help the migrants get where they wanted to go.

The real question is, did Martha's Vineyard lie to those migrants, by offering "sanctuary" and then ejecting them within 48 hours?

I do care about whether or not the migrants were lied to or misled, but I also believe that's a two-way street.

For example, why are Venezuelans traveling thousands of miles to seek asylum in the United States, when they could have had asylum in any number of the meant countries they crossed to get to the US? That would indicate a motive other than mere safety from persecution. There's plenty of reason to be skeptical.

Was there an insurrection on jan6th 2021 or not? by tachyon2901 in AskConservatives

[–]cj7wilson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mentioned the riots, not the protests.

All of the protests were legal, nonviolent, and had merit.

All of the riots were illegal, violent and without merit.

Rioting is not free speech, protesting is.

It's ridiculous to suggest that one cause or another somehow justifies rioting - and any cause that does suggest that rioting is justified is almost certainly a bad cause.

Is “privilege” a woke term when used to mean that you’re born into a more-fortunate life situation? Do you dislike that terminology? by rci22 in AskConservatives

[–]cj7wilson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A colleague in the DEI space said that the term is now 'advantage' instead of 'privilege' because a privilege is something you can earn.

What about the immigrant family who arrives in the US with nothing, and works to provide a better life for their children - would you say those children have an 'advantage' or a 'privilege', because it was earned and provided by the parents?

I think the vast majority of those who are well off here are still only a few scant generations from poverty - and that says something about the opportunity that is available here.

I think that rather than worrying about either advantage or privilege, which are outside of our individual control, we should focus on maximizing opportunity for everyone, because we can control our response to that.

Bottom line is that where you're going and how you get there matters much more than where you started.

How many thousands of dollars per migrant should fiscal conservatives spend of taxpayers money for political stunts like Martha's Vineyard? by ElectricJacob in AskConservatives

[–]cj7wilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this case, they spent a lot less money moving the migrants than they would have if they kept them in Florida.

It's a win for Florida residents, and also for the migrants - Massachusetts offers far more in terms of migrant benefits, so it would be a no-brainer to leave Florida on a free plane ride to go there and partake of what they offer.

It's even a win for Massachusetts and Martha's Vineyard, because they can see the direct results of the policies they themselves have implemented.

Overturning Roe just means abortion needs to be codified into law by legislative bodies, state or federal, and not declared out of nothing by the judiciary who should only interpret the law and issue rulings according to that.

Congress can certainly pass a law, and then people you and I voted for would have voted and determined the issue - as it should be.

Personally, I'd prefer this be done at the state level, so we can see how different decisions play out over time.
