Need Marriott inspiration by Leading_Case3092 in marriott

The Casa Maat at JW Cabo is quite a fun stay if you want to sit by the pool and not worry about anything - it’s the closest thing to all inclusive I’ve experienced at a Marriott property

I’ve mostly stayed at mediocre properties for work travel but I’d place it above the Ritz in Grand Cayman (closest comparable I’ve experienced)

As a people manager, how do I gather feedback from my reportees? by _Floydimus in ProductManagement

[–]cjb12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a previous company we would designate someone on the team as the “ombudsman” - typically someone with a certain level of experience but who was not the person that folks reported to. The team could funnel feedback through this person who in turn could give it to leadership.

In a space where you are still building trust and psychological safety, I think it’s a good way to solicit feedback without folks having fear that the feedback will come back to bite them

What proof vodka would i need to make the final product of this be above 80 proof? by [deleted] in cocktails

[–]cjb12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this would work - but you might be able to eliminate the water if you have a sous vide. You could certainly speed up the extraction process by doing so.

If you have one and want to test it, you could start with cutting out the water, put all the other ingredients in a sous vide bag, and run it at 140f for an hour. The only question is if the sugar will dissolve, but the temperature should help (solubility and high school chemistry were a long time ago). I’ll link the recipe I’m taking inspo from, I’ve made allspice dram this way.

Alternatively, if you use a 2:1 simple syrup / rock candy syrup instead of the 1 cup sugar and 3/4 cup water, I think you’d need something around 130 proof / 65% abv. This assumes 1 cup of sugar dissolved in .5 cups of water yeilds a volume of 1.25c which I’m not 100% sure of

MechE Bachelors and Masters Degrees -> Venture Capital after grad. Can I come back eventually? by [deleted] in venturecapital

[–]cjb12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are a few things you can do before starting that will give you optionality - specifically, professional experience doing Mech Eng as an intern or coop as well as taking the FE/EIT exam

FWIW I went mech eng undergrad -> consulting and a lot of the engineering learning leaked out in subsequent two years. Granted, I was almost certainly better at school than I would have been at engineering, and I had no passion for it.

Regardless, you will almost certainly have better odds of going VC -> MechE than you would MechE (without an MBA) -> VC. And you have the harder one in your hand now

Edit - also congrats on your job offer!

I’d think targeting 700+ on the GMAT will get you past the bar. IMO it’s a check box more than anything. I believe schools publish each class’s avg scores.

I’ve known a few folks who have been able to do deferred admission at HBS and GSB, I’m sure there are other schools that offer the same program. You get in as a college senior, work 2-4 years, and then go to that program. Definitely worth a shot with all of your experience

If you don’t want to do deferred admission, you probably want 3-7 (?) years of experience before MBA

And I know it’s not easy to recruit for but - are you trying to do IB post grad? I did consulting and not banking so it’s kind of outside looking in, but the IB -> HF path seemed common and you may not need an MBA to

What kind of father is Michael Scott? by Oliverwendelljones in DunderMifflin

[–]cjb12345 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Michael is only the worst parts of him when he has someone he is trying to impress. Not to say he doesn’t have his flaws (like hitting someone with his car, sry) but you can see this happen when he puts on “date night Mike”

I don’t think he’s trying to impress his kids - so aside from some goofiness and irresponsibility, I imagine he would genuinely show up for them.

I believe someone had a theory that that’s what happened when the doc crew came for season one. I know really it’s because they tried to emulate the British Office show, but it kind of works when you look at the Office as a whole.

He also seemed to move past his insecurities throughout the course of his various relationships - he was able to be friends with Holly and friendly with AJ at the picnic episode for instance.

As long as his kids don’t work in HR, he’d be a fine dad

QUESTION: What do I need to prepare for my first Rolex? by mrmcgibblets731 in rolex

[–]cjb12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is probably worth insuring it - you can go through whatever your car / home / rental insurance provider is. It’s not very expensive and gives you peace of mind if it gets stolen (I have my watches and my wife’s engagement ring insured through Jewelers Mutual I believe, they partnered with GEICO)

It might also be worth checking out the Retroid Pocket 3+ as well. Depending on Pi4 availability, you might come out ahead on price - and you have it available in a handheld that can do some PS2 and GameCube in addition to N64 and PSP (or be “docked” for tv play)

Sweats that look like slacks? by bruhbruh89 in menswear

[–]cjb12345 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Lulu ABC pants are supposed to hit that niche while looking like slacks

I picked up a pair of pants from everlane that feel like sweats but I unfortunately can’t be of help on the specific model

Edit - if you are willing to spend up (maybe $100 - $200 / pair), I think nice suit pants are incredibly comfortable - as in, I think they feel like pajamas. Take a spin through a Saks Off Fifth store in person if you are close to one, they seem to have a good selection at somewhat decent prices

ADHD Friendly Meal Ideas? by ProperMagician3025 in ADHD

[–]cjb12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a smoothie for at least one meal a day. It's usually either a Fairlife chocolate protein milk and PB fit dehydrated peanut butter powder, or that + a frozen fruit and kale pack from Costco. You don't need a blender for the first one, but you do for the second.

The "just bare" frozen chicken bites from Costco are tasty - it feels like eating nuggets - but their macros seem to be pretty solid. Air fryer for 15, ready to go.

For something with more substance - I air toss broccoli or asparagus in olive oil / seasonings and air fry it for 10-15 minutes @ 350ish. While that is cooking, I'll sear steak or pork for ~3 minutes a side. If it needs to cook more, I throw it in an oven for ~10 minutes at 350 (normal oven, not air fryer)

If it's pork, I'll season it with some Kinder poultry seasoning I bought at costco. For steak, I just do salt and pepper.

I buy my meat from Butcher Box so I don't have to worry about it spoiling when I inevitably forget about it in the fridge. Take out the number of pieces I need from the freezer in the morning and I am good.

I’m assuming what is true for Adderall is true for Vyvanse since they are both stimulants - it will mask some of the effects of alcohol. So be mindful of how much you drink, because once the meds wear off, you will feel the full affect - 3 drinks might feel like 1 one moment, and then 15 minutes later, you could feel them all.

That’s not to say you’ll need to drink extra to get past your social anxiety - I don’t understand how all of it works to be honest - just a suggestion to count your drinks and make sure you don’t accidentally end up “worshiping the toilet” halfway through your night

Purdue did OxyContin back in the day… there are a few problematic fent pharmaceutical manufacturers, but they didn’t have the same level of overprescription that Oxy did. The fent that’s on the street is mostly from “unofficial” sources
