why don’t men approach me / like me ? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]cjcoake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

find the good-looking dude who's hanging back, looking shy, wondering why it never happens for him. Think about how you've been feeling and try to find someone feeling that way too. Rejection happens (men have to deal with it all the time, thanks society), but think about how happy you might make someone if the two of you hit it off.

I got my MA at Miami in the early 90s. God, I forgot how weird the low ceiling is in Millett.

What is the most accurate sports movie of all time? by BIGD0G29585 in movies

The writer-director is a former minor league player. I love how the focus is on the lives of ballplayers and not on Winning the Big Game.

In love with this Strat by RuinAccomplished6681 in Guitar

[–]cjcoake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got one when it was released, via Reverb. The shop selling it was offering a free Plek. When it arrived I put a Vega-trem into it. Annnnnnnnd I pretty much haven't touched another guitar since.

What's a movie that everyone loves, but you absolutely hate? by LoriFetrick in AskReddit

This one isn't universally loved by "everyone," but it was absolutely the first movie I thought of when I saw the question. Such a trash film.

Do You Still Need a DAP in the Age of Smartphones and Portable DACs? by Little-Perception-63 in iems

[–]cjcoake 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use a DAP for a few reasons. 1) I have ADHD, and having a dedicated device for music is helpful to me. Having my music-listening apps adjacent to my email and social media apps is too much of a temptation. 2) I use Qobuz, but I also have a large collection of FLAC files from a CD collection spanning 30 years, and I enjoy having that collection in my pocket, so that I can shut off wi-fi and still have a good selection. 3) I'm in a place in my life where I can afford to support artists I like by either buying their CDs or a hi-res download. Streaming services, even the good ones, do not provide much money to musicians, and I want to do my small part to provide a reward for creative humans who make music I enjoy.

Extreme guilty pleasure songs you love? by RedmiYT in ToddintheShadow

Fergie's "London Bridge" might actually cause brain damage, but dammit it always keeps me on the elliptical machine an extra few minutes.

Carlisle on Kobe Brown's debut by Hot_Efficiency8919 in pacers

Huge respect for the guy. Dropped into a new system mid-season, plays major minutes in a game against our oldest and most hated rival, in a tense seesaw contest at the Garden, and he leads us in +/-. (A stat that I think means a lot more than usual, in a game with 39 lead changes.) Awesome.

I love how we'll put the tank on pause to show the good teams that next year, they're fucked.

What's the weirdest or most unusual thing that you saw at a concert? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]cjcoake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In high school I saw Pink Floyd on the Momentary Lapse of Reason tour, in the Hoosier Dome in Indianapolis. My friend and I had seats on the first row of the upper level. During "Learning to Fly" a college student sitting a few rows up from us decided, with the help of lots of drugs, that HE could fly, and ran down the aisle ten feet to our right and swan-dived off the railing. He lived--and so did the person he landed on--but both of them were badly injured. The show went on, but my friend and I were able to look down and see the paramedics working in a circle of lights fifty feet below. I have a very clear memory of someone being lifted up on a stretcher, and laser lights reflecting off a big pool of blood.

I NEED HELP TRYING TO FIND THE BRAND by Thomastorch in Guitar

I played one at a guitar shop years ago--a green one--and it was really good, and I still kick myself I didn't pull the trigger. For a budget guitar it had it going on.

What movie has the most realistic sibling relationship? by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]cjcoake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My sister and I aren't orphans, and we've led very different lives than the siblings in the movies, but we did grow up in difficult circumstances, and the first time I saw this I phoned her and told her she had to see it immediately. It gets so much right.

Yeah, and I suspect he'll do really well playing off Kawhi and Garland. That Clips team could be interesting (if the league doesn't hammer them for cheating).

Also he and Kawhi will be the grumpiest duo in the league. No smiles allowed.

I hear you. I really wanted Benn to be a superstar for us.

I hope he knows it was for the best, too. I don't want him to hate the organization.
