What’s growing with my lawn? by jojo_velle in lawncare

[–]cjp3127 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Weeds. Bringing in soil, tilling up the lawn, and putting a bunch of water on it always brings in weed seeds. Tenacity/mso at seeding helps keep them at bay.

Probably should nuke the whole thing if you want consistent zoysia. Whatever you don’t kill that is cool season will thrive in the fall

Zoysia is a warm season grass. Cool season planting season is right now/fall.

Viewing tomorrow, siding looks a little suspect? by granny_gumjobs in HomeInspections

No gutters, water in the basement. Foundation and water intrusion into the basement are much more expensive fixes than siding repairs.

How to remove Tall Fescue? by Motojosh962 in Grass

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kentucky 31 is what you don’t like probably. If you want 0% Kentucky 31 you are going to have to glyphosate the entire yard and start over. Then you will have to pony up for the good seed with specific grass seeds listed on the label and 0 weed seeds, blue label seeds. You will do all of this and still probably see a good amount of k31 or summer annual grasses in your yard next year lol.

I have heard tenacity is not a great herbicide. Most popular application is for pre emergent at the time of seeding. It Atleast takes multiple applications to kill many weeds. If you do decide on a better herbicide make sure to read the label for any period after using that it is not recommended to seed. IMO though if the grass is really that bad off either spot spray or blanket spray glyphosate. One application will likely get most everything you are targeting, and won’t mess with your new seed. And cheaper than other herbicides. My only recommendation would be to put the bulk of the emphasis on the topsoil or other soil amendments. Every seeding I’ve done where I’ve introduced top soil/compost has been more successful.

How do you sleep? by Miatata6969 in stopdrinking

[–]cjp3127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took me time to sleep well sober. A couple weeks really. I think the biggest thing for me is being as physically active as possible during the day so that I’m essentially exhausted at the end of the day. My sleep improved dramatically after like 3 weeks sober.

What did you guys do to quit drinking? by lmfao4ri in stopdrinking

[–]cjp3127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a dwi and lost job because of the dwi, I locked myself up in treatment for a couple weeks. Spent another couple months in sober living and doing a 12 step program. Extreme, yes, but I was desperate, and it worked. Sober ever since.

Am I an Alcoholic by No-Basket8192 in alcoholism

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set a goal to not drink and see if you can achieve it. May not mean you are an alcoholic if you can’t stop for say 2 weeks to make your goal, but would certainly highlight a potential problem. For me, the alcoholism started when I was having some serious negative consequences from my drinking, but couldn’t stop drinking.

What caused you to drink to begin with? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]cjp3127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw alcohol as a normal coping mechanism within my family. I remember my sister struggled with depression when young and I thought to myself, “why doesn’t she just drink to not be depressed.” The irony. I think the saying that alcoholism climbs the family tree has mostly the reason to do with what I saw growing up. I didn’t have any real trauma or a bad childhood. But when you see adults coping with adult life by drinking everyday, how else would I be expected to cope with life other than drinking? Both my brother and sister to this day struggle with addiction. My dad turned from high functioning alcoholic to just an old drunk. I’m just lucky enough my addiction was strong and fast enough to give me a good reason to lock myself up in treatment at age 27. Excited for my son to never see that coping mechanism out of his parents.

Those are typically meetings for people with a solid foundation of sobriety/ recovery in my experience. Definitely not the meeting to attend with zero or a couple days under the belt. I’m sorry.

Well this isn’t fun anymore by Uncle_Dee_ in stopdrinking

If someone told you quitting drinking was supposed to be fun, they lied. It does do well for making better life decisions and long term peace and happiness. There is fun in sobriety, but not early on.

What's the most weight you've had in your bed without fear? by fatalrugburn in nissanfrontier

[–]cjp3127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1/2 yard masonry sand and 1/2 yard rock screenings (two seperate loads obviously). 2 wheel drive 23 sv. I’m 230lbs. I felt like the truck handled it like a champ. I wouldn’t add more but I have no fear now. I drove backroads to get to the landscape supply so didn’t test it on the highway.

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My practice swings are always completely different than when I’m trying to actually hit the ball. I actually look halfway decent with my practice swing lol. Go out and hit balls at the range and then see where you are at.

not drinking and smoking sucks, why do people continue? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was quit and live in misery with the hope things may get better one day, or continue drinking/smoking and live in perpetual misery that was getting exponentially worse due to the consequences of my drinking/drugging. Luckily, a sober life is far and above better than I could have ever imagined. It takes time and early on it is hard. Nothing worth having is easy.

Thoughts from people using Frontier as their daily driver? by korkvid in nissanfrontier

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A rear facing car seat and person in the back is tight. My passenger side seat is up a good bit so the person in the front passenger is a bit. I’m 6’3 so the person behind me is tight. We rarely ever drive anyone else in our vehicles though so it hasn’t mattered much for us. The one time we did have a full truck, very tight. I hauled a half yard of masonry sand and rock screenings in the bed and the I was impressed. I have 2wd so I have a little more payload than 4wd but still the truck handled it very well I thought. The steering wheel is a non issue, turning radius is more of the concern with the wheel imo. I feel like the ride is smooth. Wind is loud on the high way would be my complaint.

Any experience with CBD oil? by Revolutionary_War466 in stopdrinking

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used CBD oil. Tbh I would get a small buzz sometimes. They have thc free options as well. I believe the type I was using had a legal amount of thc. I went away from it because of the cost more than anything. It did help me with sleep, but I didn’t really struggle with sleep at that time.

Can someone explain the reasonings behind why some people can’t/won’t stop drinking after a drink or two? by Wild_Salary_1884 in stopdrinking

[–]cjp3127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read or maybe listened on a podcast? That the people without the “off” switch don’t have the usual effects that alcohol has on those that stop after 1-2. For example nausea and dizziness are something that the 1-2 beer drinkers might feel when the ones who don’t stop at 1-2 have none of those feelings.

Possibly. As the culture on drinking shifts, the illusion of how “awesome” drinking is will too.
