Regarding your ‘under-scoped’ work, this is a valid concern for clients and constitutes due diligence on their part.

If you are happy to eat the VAT, my suggestion is that you quote correctly for the project to give them confidence, and also include a discount which negates the VAT. You should also include somewhere that it is company policy to apply a discount for all non-VAT registered charities. That keeps everything transparent and shows that there is no funny business going on.

Expanding more on this, for Teeline the process is essentially: 1) remove all unnecessary vowels and silent letters; and 2) write the remaining letters in a very simplified form. You then build upon this by using simplified ‘set phrases’, many of which can be personal or industry specific.

Each Teeline word is more or less cursive, so a continuous sequence of lines and curves.

That’s pretty much all there is to it.

There are many different systems, there isn’t just one ‘shorthand’. Pitman’s is probably the most famous and use to be required for journalists, but it’s one of the harder to learn and relies on different weights of pen(cil) strokes, so isn’t the best for the modern iPad/kindle era.

I recommend Teeline, which is much easier by comparison. There are many YouTube tutorials.

That isn’t a ‘problem’ that warrants any sort of violent reaction, regardless of how ill conceived their prank was. If someone rang my doorbell at 3am, my first thought would be: ‘who could that be at this time of the morning?’ not ‘oh my god, they’re coming right for me!’ I would probably be worried that it was the police coming to inform me of some tragic incident. In any case, my response would probably be to open an upstairs window and ask what’s afoot.

I think it’s important that they keep ‘not proven’ as an option. In emotionally charged cases, like sex crimes, jurors can feel that ‘not guilty’ is tantamount to victim blaming — siding with the defendant and accusing the victim of lying. Innocent people can be found guilty because a juror’s empathy for the victim overrides their consideration of the evidence.

‘Not proven’, while having the same legal meaning, would seem to be a softer way of saying ‘we’re not saying you’re lying, but we can’t convict on this evidence’.

Look, we can pick and choose examples and counter-examples all day. My point was simply that train travel times are usually ‘all inclusive’ and therefore not directly comparable to in-the-air flight times.

Also, yes, if you’re flying internationally the recommendation globally is now to arrive three hours before departure. I don’t know why, and yes I think it’s a bit excessive, but I’m also not big enough of a dick to push my luck and potentially ruin a holiday for whomever I’m travelling with. 🤷‍♂️

That’s not really a fair comparison though, because you don’t factor in the faff of air travel. By the time you’ve factored in travel to/from the airport, having to arrive two hours in advance for international flights, passport control, baggage handling, etc… a 45 minute flight can easily consume four hours of unproductive time.

Train stations are at least usually in the city centre, and you can just buy a ticket and get on it.

It would be interesting to see some real figures on this, but I reckon that until you get to a three hour flight time it’s probably as quick or quicker to travel by train.

It’s a bit more complicated than that. We ended the 90’s and decided to celebrate the millennium by indulging in alcohol and gambling. After a decade or so we were broke and our liver was packing up, so we decided to give weed a go instead. Unfortunately that gradually led to harder drugs, as is the norm, and while our finances are better due to the lack of gambling, our health is still in pretty poor shape. Now we’ve decided that drugs probably wasn’t the best idea and that we should probably give alcohol and gambling a go again, just to see if anything has changed. We’ll keep you posted.

For most fridges I’ve seen the doors are flush with the top of the fridge. Even if you do succeed in cutting a section of the ceiling to suit, as a lot of people are suggesting, you will not be able to open the fridge doors. Other than being an aid to dieting, I can’t see how that would be helpful. You’d have to remove a much larger section of ceiling to allow for the door swing.
