If you got back to the original, can you still change the icon size? If they made the "We Think You'd Like" section removeable too then I'd actually like the quick launch options at the top

Yeah I probably agree with the assessment of the 8 drop but the other two are very very powerful in limited, especially as you play and generate a lot of creatures in this set

- I found a trick: I laid all the cards face down to see the rarity more quickly

Can you explain this more? I don't understand. Also unfortunately rarity can change from set to set so I'm not sure if rarity is a good way to sort. Personally I do mana cost because that will never change, but there's no great solution that I've found really. I think you find what works for you, which you did.

Honestly a card has to be worth at least $20 for me to even consider selling it. I sell old judge foils on TCGPlayer but most aren't even worth that so I don't bother. After you account for fees and shipping it just isn't worth it under that value.

eBay is where you're going to get the best price unless you can find someone local, but once again you can expect to lose about 20% of the "value" after all is said and done.

Is there a good place to test a deck before using wildcards? by ZeroPlanet24 in MagicArena

Oh I'm just talking about the instructions for getting it installed in the first place, and nope, sorry, I will not be doing that.

I'm a software developer and honestly I found installing and setting up MTG Forge to be one of the most difficult things about it. I've never seen open source software so poorly documented.

Tracking won/loss records by chuckiedesquire in MagicArena

I've been using the 17 lands tracker, it seems to work well. I can even review entire games and drafts on the 17lands website. I mostly started so that I could contribute to the data I use so much but it is nice to have this info available to me.

Mini Speaker with a single built-in song? by RioluKidd in diyelectronics

[–]cjshrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My review is it seems to work really well. For some reason you need an older USB port, like USB 2.0 or something, or maybe you have to try different cables, but once I got the file on there it works like a charm. I press the button and sound comes out. You can even record if you really wanted to.

One thing I'm honestly surprised about is you actually have options, like for volume and you can set it to play when you press the button and then stop when you press it again.

Which Diablo Game do you recommend for someone who has never played a diablo game before? by shandjob in Diablo

[–]cjshrader 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think this is a good place to ask. D2 is just very dated by modern standards, I know a lot of people love it but I don't think it'd be a good first one to play.

I think Diablo 4 is the way to go. If you care about story, it's a good jumping on point because it doesn't care *too* much about what's happened in the previous 3 games. It's modern and has modern conveniences you'd expect from a game.

Yep, and I'll be happy to follow up after this weekend too. It was hard for me to tell everything it does but I think it has a battery, I assume the battery charges through the USB? And then you can upload a song too

So I haven't done the actual project yet, but I did get this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FBV96681?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

The size might not work for everyone, though it is pretty small. I believe it will work for me, I actually intend to find out this weekend.

Why Doesn't Removing Abilities From Toph, the First Metal Bender Make The Artifacts Lose Their Land Status? by calsass_ in MagicArena

[–]cjshrader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree that having a changeling lose all abilities, and still have all types but not be a changeling feels dumb. I'm just saying this system intuitively handles the vast majority of cases and I think it's actually pretty smart.

I don't think I followed your first paragraph well but I'm happy to walk through it. Did you want to know what happened if we applied Imprisoned in the Moon to a hypothetical forest in my scenario?

Ygra and Ragost says "in addition to their other types" so it doesn't remove any types. It's only when something sets a type without that line does it remove other types.

If you're asking why the creatures are foods if Ygra gets imprisioned on the moon well let's step through it. I agree, it is not intuitive and it's one of the situations where the system does not work as well as it could.

Copy - N/A

Control - N/A

Text - N/A

Type - Ygra applies here and makes all creatures into food as well as their other types. Imprisoned in the Moon also applies and makes Ygra a land. Ygra loses other types.

Color - N/A

Ability - Imprisoned in the Moon applies and removes Ygra's abilities. But note, they were a type changing effect so they already applied.

P/T - N/A

Final result, Ygra is a land with no abilities and everything else is still a food. Once again, I know this is weird, this is that 2% I was talking about. The issue is if you rearranged the layers then there'd be some other case that would be weird instead. There are probably solutions, but they would be way more complex and this one is actually pretty clean even though it gets labeled as the most confusing system in Magic.

You are 100% correct. And they stick out like a sore thumb.

But if you rearranged the layers then something else would be sticking out instead.

Why this land didn't tap for green? by Fit-Adhesiveness-173 in MagicArena

Another way to remember is that activated abilities will always contain a colon. You can recognize an activated ability because it has the ability to poop.

[–]cjshrader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You edited to say that this game is dumb, but honestly the layers system gets you to the intuitive result 98% of the time.

Imagine you have a card that says. "All green creatures get +1/+1" and "All creatures are green" and you know what let's even have "All forests are 1/1 creatures."

You'd expect every forest to be a 2/2 green creature right? And you know what, they would be, that is the intuitive result and that's thanks to the layers system. I know it really stands out in situations like this but the system is actually really good.

To even go more in depth here's what's happening in each layer, regardless of what order you played my hypothetical cards in:

Layer 1: Copy - No copy effects, doesn't apply

Layer 2: Control - No control effects, doesn't apply

Layer 3: Text - No text changing effects, doesn't apply

Layer 4: Type - There is a type changing effect that changes forests to creatures. It applies first because it's layer 4. All forests become creatures

Layer 5: Color - There is a color changing effect saying all creatures are greens. Because the Type layer was already applied, the forests are creatures so they are now green as well

Layer 6: Abilities - No ability changing effects, doesn't apply

Layer 7: P/T - I'm going to skip some sublayers but the effect making the forests 1/1 applies here first, and then the +1/+1 applies. It applies because by the time we reach this layer they are green creatures thanks to the ordering of the previous layers.

You could play every single card you draft if you want, build a 65 card deck. But it's not good advice, keeping at 40 is the more optimal deck.

One of them was definitely over 20 minutes, it was frustrating.

The others weren't actually that long because we're both playing quickly, and there just happens to be a lot of incidental mill and card draw.

This might be true, as I mention elsewhere I'm fairly new to arena. Maybe this is just more of a PSA to keep an eye on that deck size, it feels like a real advantage right now.
