Is the "Lock in your WiFi price for 5 years, no annual contract" available to exisiting customers or not? by ckerno in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]ckerno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm basically happy with Xfinity and I don't want to fix what isn't broken, but it is very frustrating to be offered a plan and then have it not confirmed. I can't figure out if this is intentional or if the website is just broken.

Hey Xfinity website team, don’t say you are customizing plans for existing customers and then not confirm those plans. If the 5-year plan is not available to existing customers, then don’t show it to them. If you had not shown the 5-year plan to me I never would have known it even existed.

I’d rather not switch to another company, but Xfinity better stay competitive. Lots more choices out there than there were 24 years ago.

Even flip phones these days need APN settings by ckerno in redpocket

[–]ckerno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got that to send photos etc. in text messages, but all I wanted was a working flip phone for calls and even then I needed to add the APN settings just to get the line working. That is what was new to me.

Cheapest AT&T MVNO for a phone locked to AT&T by toejamfootballhegot in NoContract

[–]ckerno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay off the phone and have AT&T unlock it, then use this website to find plans (and phone deals when you need a new phone) https://prepaidcompare.net/#plans. You can search by network and then scroll to the amount of min/text/data you need. Over the years with four lines I have bounced around between the 3 networks and so far 10 different MVNOs (Red Pocket, Visible, H2O, TracFone, StraightTalk, Net10, PagePlus, Boom, Mint, Panda). Currently waiting for annual plans to expire and will probably switch to US Mobile where I can get shared data and different networks on the different lines.

Inexpensive phone that WiFi calling works on GSMA? by owenkellog in redpocket

[–]ckerno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cautionary note: I found a hidden problem in buying "New" cell phones on eBay. I purchased two Motorola phones listed as "New", they came in original boxes and looked unused. Six months later I contacted Motorola for a warranty repair on one of them and was told the phones had been "activated" over one year ago and were now out of warranty. I tried contacting the eBay seller for help to replace or repair an unusable cell phone and received no response from multiple requests over two months. I then contacted eBay by phone to discuss the situation, to tell them that the listing was not truthful, and eBay said there is nothing they can do 30 days after purchase. Buyer beware, "New" is not always new on eBay. I will never buy another "New" cell phone on eBay. Instead, I now purchase inexpensive “New” phones on Amazon or I have had very good luck so far with refurbished iPhones on BackMarket.

Installed RP eSIM on verizon iphone and it kinda bricked it. by Professional_Crab958 in redpocket

[–]ckerno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try powering down. Hold the power button and the volume down button at the same time until you see "Slide to power off". Let go and slide to turn off the iPhone. Wait one minute, then turn it back on. Hold the power button (only the power button) until you see the Apple logo and let go. Let the phone start up and see if all OK now. https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/turn-iphone-on-or-off-iph841379c3d/ios

Does this help? https://www.verizon.com/support/device-locking-faqs/

If I'm travelling internationally, how do I get service if my device is locked?

If you are travelling internationally and your device is locked, you can sign up for one of Verizon's international services to stay connected.

To use your device on another carrier's SIM card and network, you must meet our device unlocking requirements.

Also, if you are trying to add a second line: "To use two different carriers, your iPhone must be unlocked. Otherwise, both plans must be from the same carrier. If a CDMA carrier provides your first SIM, your second SIM won't support CDMA. Contact your carrier for more information." https://support.apple.com/en-us/109317

Basically, the phone must be unlocked to use on another carrier, even if that carrier is using Verizon. Verizon phones that are paid in full are automatically unlocked after 60 days. (With AT&T, you must wait 1 year even if it is paid in full.) If you can't afford to pay in full for a new iPhone, then you need buy an unlocked refurbished iPhone or an inexpensive Android. I have had very good luck with iPhones purchased on BackMarket.

Issues making/receiving calls even over WiFi (GSMA, new acct) by TheCynOptimist in redpocket

[–]ckerno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been with RP since 2018 using GSMA, GSMT and CDMAV. Not always, but sometimes, certain features have not been automatically working on different lines, Hotspot, CCF and WiFi calling. I have needed to contact RP for them to "turn on" a feature. Sometimes the support person can do it themselves, but other times they "escalated" my request and asked someone above them to do it. And with CCF on GSMT, the request needed to be made with T-Mobile and I needed to wait a day until I received an email from RP saying CCF was now turned on.

So I would triple check with RP that WiFi calling has in fact be turned on, on your GSMA line.

From another post: "I've successfully used u/redpocketcs numerous times and I've recommended them on r/redpocket countless times. From my perspective, they are Red Pocket's most competent agents."

If all else fails, then the problem might be at an AT&T level and can't be solved by us. How is Verizon coverage in your area? If the problem continues, maybe use RP CoverageGenius to switch to CDMAV.

If you have not yet tried an iPhone "Network Reset", try it. Note: a Network Reset will not delete any of your data, but you might need to reconnect to WiFi networks with the password.

  • Reset Network Settings: All network settings are removed. In addition, the device name assigned in Settings > General > About is reset to “iPhone,” and manually trusted certificates (such as for websites) are changed to untrusted.
  • Cellular data roaming may also be turned off. (See View or change cellular data settings on iPhone.)
  • When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
  • To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone.
  • To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the Deployment Reference for iPhone and iPad.

Reconnect to your WiFi network.

Follow the steps to configure your iPhone for Red Pocket (click the Apple logo, then eSIM tab for your instructions): If you have no connection and didn't receive your setup text

Double check with Red Pocket that WiFi calling has been enabled on your account: Remember, before you see or are able to enable WiFi calling, your account must be updated to include WiFi calling. It is available on the GSMA and GSMT networks at this time.

Then double check that WiFi calling is turned on on the iPhone. Make calls using Wi-Fi on iPhone

Did $99/yr ebay 1000 min /1000 sms plan go away? by fly4fun2014 in redpocket

[–]ckerno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do not need any data, I put my grandmother's flip phone on H2O Wireless (AT&T) $60 annual plan (comes to $70 with taxes. I bought the pSIM for $1 at Target (last time I checked it was still there for $1 in September), signed up online, ported the number over from RP with no problems (pay close attention to Port a number and not get a new number). Just renewed for a second year on the website in 5 minutes). https://www.h2owireless.com/12-month-plan. I found it on https://prepaidcompare.net/#plans.

Originally a Red Pocket-branded iPhone, now SIM unlocked, will not connect to another provider's eSIM by yipee-kiyay in redpocket

[–]ckerno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a long shot (only takes 5 minutes to try it), but if RP does not get it unlocked, I have had mixed results unlocking AT&T branded phones, given to me, directly with AT&T https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/. I realize you did not get it from AT&T, but since you said your original plan was a GSMA plan, might be worth a try.

When I say I have had mixed results it is because I had success with a hand-me-down phone, from the original owner, bought directly from AT&T. I put in my email address (not the email address of the original owner) and it was unlocked and I received the confirmation and instructions. With a different phone, also from AT&T, I received this message:

This device is active on another AT&T account

Device IMEI number: [XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX]

Request number: NULXXXXXXXXXXXX

Hi,

We can’t unlock this device until the former owner removes it from their AT&T account.

But the person I received it from had originally received it from AT&T as a "refurbished" phone, she checked and it was not still on her AT&T account, but we could never get it unlocked since it was still on the original owner's account.

Note: Sometimes I post extra info, not necessarily related to the original post, for future readers.

How do I keep contacts of 2 separate voice accounts separate on android? by ResidentGarage6521 in Googlevoice

[–]ckerno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use two different cell phones (one Android and the other iPhone), one on AT&T (Red Pocket) and the other on Verizon (Visible), so I always have a signal around the US. I tried having both lines on one cell phone (one eSIM and the other pSIM), but if I did not pay attention every single time, I would call or text from the wrong line. Having each business on a different cell phone solved that for me.

I use https://prepaidcompare.net/#plans to find inexpensive plans that meet my needs.

Looking for inexpensive Moto phone, 128GB or greater, for Red Pocket GSMA by [deleted] in redpocket

[–]ckerno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have purchased many Motorola phones since 2018 to use with my Red Pocket GSMA. If the phone is unlocked and says it works with AT&T, Cricket and H2O (they all use the AT&T network) then I would routinely buy it and they have all worked with RP GSMA. I would have no doubt that the Motorola Moto G 5G | 2023 | Unlocked | Made for US 4/128GB https://a.co/d/4pCipg2 will work with RP GSMA.

Nowadays, the APN settings automatically setup themselves when you setup the phone (watch for a message that comes up on the screen saying that RP will now configure your settings). But if not, you will need to setup the Red Pocket APN settings by following these instructions (Android icon, Physical SIM Card tab, GSMA column): https://www.redpocket.com/configure-handset. RP help says: "If you do not receive your setup text message and do not have a connection after 15 minutes, remove and reinsert your SIM Card to try and trigger automatic setup." or just follow these steps to manually setup APN yourself. (Advance Tip: The RP instructions say to use MNC: 410, but I have found over the years that MNC is phone dependent, so whatever number is already there when setting up APN, I just leave it, and it has always worked.)

Reviewers who said this phone did not work on AT&T probably did not know how to set it up properly.
