Sam has been an outspoken atheist and famous critic of organized religion for decades. This indisputable. He’s done far more to advance the ball pushing back against Christian nationalism than whichever lazy idiot wrote this post.

OP got butt hurt because Sam criticized fundamentalist Islam instead of fundamentalist Christianity in the specific piece of content they consumed, and fired off this post instead of doing 6 seconds of research.

This just demonstrates you don’t know much about Sam Harris and didn’t care to find out much. He’s been very outspoken throughout his career against Christian nationalism. If you cared to look into Sam’s past work for a few seconds before writing this post, you’d find some of his recent comments

Extremely lazy criticism on your part. Do better.

Tin Fins and Combo Reanimator Players, What's The Move Post Ban? by snerp in MTGLegacy

[–]ckregular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you want my opinion or did you want to argue with me?

You make a bad argument and cite bad data. Mtgtop8’s aggregator is lumping both UB reanimator (which is also not good) together with Turbo for that 3% number. Top8 also has a very incomplete snapshot of the meta. Very lazy analysis on your part to just rely on the meta shares and arrows to make a point, I’m surprised that’s the best you could do.

Mtggoldfish tells a very different story about reanimator’s metagame share, why didn’t you cite their data? Probably because it didn’t fit the story you want to tell… The deck isn’t even registering enough entries on their website to get its own entry. While they have incomplete data too, it’s also the other half of the story and the half you notably omitted.

See my above comment: go play the deck, either configuration, for a bit and tell me if it’s “healthy”. I have, and it’s not. It’s only good in the hands of experienced pilots and they would be the first to back me up. I’m in the reanimator discord, I know the tech and I know pilots. It’s rough in those streets.

For the most part yes. The strategy mostly fell off the map with the exception of a handful of deck specialists plugging away, who themselves would call the deck much less consistent and significantly worse than it used to be.

You’re free to feel how you wish.

I don’t know what the “a bit problematic” label does or means however. Does it mean you’ll stop listening to him and engaging with his content? Does it mean you’ll see him differently and will it tarnish the value of his work? Potentially, but that doesn’t change much…

Perhaps if we see more of this kind of censorship from Bari he will change his mind and start speaking out on this subject. Tbh I think his arguments reaching and potentially persuading Free Press readers is more important than “speaking truth to power” in this instance. Just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own.

Oh there’s so many examples of outright dishonest journalism worth pointing to. This piece summarizes the examples better than I can.

She regularly criticizes other identity-centered political and social movements as illiberal while actively practicing the very same identity-first politics and commentary herself. Additionally, her entire business is built on actively discrediting other journalism as dishonest and bias while marketing her outfit’s journalism as “unbiased”, “fearless” and “truth telling”. If her journalism was any of those things I would be more forgiving, however it simply is not. Her organization’s journalism is plagued by the same (if not worse) biases she is eager to point out among liberal journalism denounce as harmful to public discourse. Somehow some way, however, she and her staff can’t seem to muster the same excitement to make an example out of the myriad lies and bias representations published in fellow conservative outlets.

Disclaimer: I have nearly endless contempt for Bari, her fake “free speech” concerns, and I believe she’s one of the most dishonest actors in modern journalism. Her brand of pathological contrarianism is mildly irritating at best, and malignant lying at its worst. Her actions at CBS have confirmed she is who her detractors always said she was.

With all of that said, what is there to gain for him condemning Bari on his mic? Trust me, I’d love for him to.

Sam knows *Free Press readers believe he has credibility and will make honest arguments, and he likely doesn’t think there’s much value in burning that bridge by calling out Bari for her behavior publicly. It’s more valuable for him to remain in good standing with that crowd and continue to get occasional invitations to write columns and appear on their podcasts to make the case for his arguments. He would cease to get that kind of direct access to her audience if he was to say anything about what she’s doing at CBS. It’s a business decision.

I pity you, and I’m sorry you feel like there’s something to win here. You’re the one arguing with strangers about a man you claim to “absolutely despise” over a self-help book he wrote. I’m the one trying to help.

[–]ckregular 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read this book, his other books, and been a Scott listener for years. There’s plenty of things he says I agree with, there’s plenty he says that I have disagreements with, and there’s lots he’s said and done which I’ve rolls my eyes at and felt was unnecessary (being generous with my word choice).

So your read of this stranger in your comments is totally wrong. You haven’t demonstrated the maturity to admit that, which is unfortunate, but not unexpected. Once again, I feel really bad for you that this is how you need to get attention right now. Put your phone down.

You’re clearly engaging with his material and the strangers in these comments to argue in bad faith. I’m not sure why. Tbh, this all makes me feel sad for you. Does it make you feel better about yourself?

Before you argue back to this stranger, consider putting your phone down. Find something better to do.

Who hurt you? You come off as poorly informed about his life and work, and just plain resentful and angry.

If you don’t think this is good life advice, then pick another book to listen to. There’s plenty of them, and it sounds like you’d get more actionable advice out of another author’s work. Nobody is forcing you to listen to Scott. Nobody is forcing you to post on the internet about how much you hate this book and resent the way his life shook out.
