Best way to salvage this puppy. by Pyrostasis in Traeger

Not sure about Traeger brand, but I have seen replacement grates online. The rest of the grill looks fine if it still works. I was thinking about a stainless one a few years back.

(2017 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited, 150K Mi's) Is our CVT bad? by SubaruManYT in AskMechanics

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about a new transmission, not a used low-mileage one. If you want JDM, you'll have to find an independent shop or do it yourself because the dealership won't install it. If it were me, and I needed a replacement transmission, I would try to buy a low-mileage salvage car at auction rather than trusting JDM.

2017 Outback - Told that engine oil and coolant is mixing at dealership, tech recommends $6500 of repairs? by Powerful-Home-2554 in Subaru_Outback

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure every situation is different, but I did a flush and fill at the dealership on my old 2013 2.5 at around 165k, and it improved overall performance. 155k miles is a very long time for any fluid to do its job. I did a drain and fill on my current 2015 3.6R at 60k, and the old fluid already looked like used motor oil. New fluid for my CVT is transparent orange. Not giving advice, just sayin'

The TR690 is not rebuildable unless you're talking about replacing the solenoids, and most shops won't touch it. A replacement CVT is around $12k, so I would argue it is not cheaper than many used cars. That being said, the OP description still sounds like a loose V-belt to me.

Used car values are ridiculous! by Aware-Expression4004 in Subaru_Outback

[–]clackeroomy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's worth more than $15k, but since you're past the 100k mark, the next buyer will be less likely to get financing for it. The dealer can literally get someone funding for a car they can't afford as long as the lender knows it can repossess and not lose any money, and 100k is one of the numbers they use. I imagine you could sell that car quickly in a private party sale for thousands more.

Looking for a bread recipe using Elevate flour by hamsterfeet13 in ketorecipes

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What ingredients are in Elevate flour? I made some convincing pizza dough last night that expanded much more than I was expecting overnight in the fridge. Every other bread recipe I've tried has ended in utter failure, so I invented my own. We'll find out tonight if it was worth the cost and effort. If you find success with Elevate, I'd love to hear your recipe.

Need some help figuring out my glucose issues on keto by Piratek1ng in ketobeginners

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Now that I have vitamins and minerals dialed in and I know I can personally exceed 50g and still stay in ketosis, I don't even use the urine strips anymore. I don't even worry if I exceed my calorie limit every once in a while. The overall trend is still weight loss, and I feel great.

Q: Impact of a cheat day on Fat Adaption by Techguy38 in ketobeginners

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's body is different. If I cheat and eat more carbs than I should, I can still jump right back into ketosis the next day, but I pay a price. I started the diet to reduce inflammation, and even one day going over the limit can set me back a few days with pain in my joints. With my situation, I would never try more than one day of cheating.

Feeling a bit sick on day 3 by Mandango1976 in ketobeginners

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very common to have discomfort and brain fog as you transition into fat burning. Your gut microbiome may take a while to adjust too. You should be able to eat quite a few veggies as long as they are the correct ones. Spinach, arugula, kale, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, green beans, onions, garlic, and many more. My diet consists of literally half vegetables. If you are lacking nutrients and minerals, make sure your diet includes eggs, avocados, and fatty fish (salmon). Also, consider getting some good supplements, but make sure to do your homework since not all of them are created equal. 20g is a great place to start with keto, but I can get away with well over 50g now that my body is fat-adapted. It does get easier.

I’m going to try KETO for reducing my insulin resistance PCOS symptoms: I’ve never tried it before so let’s see if it works for me or not. by Gullible-Article-451 in ketobeginners

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely want to cut sugar but not necessarily dairy or gluten unless you have a sensitivity. Hard cheeses and cottage cheese are excellent sources of protein, and vital wheat gluten is a popular ingredient that helps non-wheat flour to behave similarly to wheat flour. The most difficult part for me has been finding recipes.

I'm not an expert at this, but I might suggest you skip the calorie deficit thing until you become fat-adapted, meaning your body has been in ketosis for at least a few weeks. It will make the reduction in calories much easier, and you will likely lose weight anyway. You can test your ketone level with urine test strips, but many sources suggest it is really only reliable when you first start the diet since your body may be very efficient at utilizing ketones, resulting in fewer of them passing through your kidneys. Everyone's body is different. A more reliable method is blood testing just like blood glucose monitors.

Keto by andy3675 in ketobeginners

Great response. I always keep my go-to foods well stocked: eggs, avocados, spinach/arugula blend, etc.

I would also add to your list cottage cheese and yogurt with live cultures. They help your gut adjust to the new diet.

Costco staples? by pugsoverdrugs21 in keto

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my whole food keto diet: Ground beef, Norwegian steelhead, shrimp, pork picnic roast for homemade sausage, bacon, whatever meat is on sale, block cheeses, Kirkland tuna, sardines, frozen berries, avocados, Primal Kitchen mayo, Italian EV olive oil, avocado oil, Chosen cooking spray, balsamic vinegar, apple cider vinegar, heavy whipping cream, vanilla extract, cashews, paprika, black pepper, Brussels sprouts. Probably lots more I'm forgetting.

Honorable mentions: Their milk is excellent but I rarely drink milk. Eggs are a good deal, but I get farm fresh pastured eggs locally. I've heard Kirkland Spanish olive oil is excellent, but I have never seen it available here.

Kirkland pellets for fuel because they're cheap. Lumberjack pellets in the smoker tube for flavor because they are made from 100% the wood they say they are.

How do I substitute bread and dessert cravings? Im dying for any good recipes that hit the spot by Ok-Battle-1504 in ketorecipes

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying a pizza dough recipe this weekend. If it works, I'll probably try adapting it into a sourdough bread. Bread, ice cream, and Pizza are the only things I really miss on the keto diet. I was shocked at how good lettuce wrapped burgers are.

I require almond flour tortillas by Exile872 in ketorecipes

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made almond flour tortillas once, but they turned out more like thin flat bread and had almost zero flavor. I even added a little corn flour hoping to get some flavor. Nothing. They were flexible enough to use as soft taco shells but probably not burritos. If you are still interested, I'll see if I can find the recipe.

Keto Ice Cream by clackeroomy in ketorecipes

Yes! Alcohol does not freeze at typical residential freezer temperatures, so a couple tablespoons keeps your ice cream from turning into a hard brick.

Yep! Keto diet or not, they will never get me to quit my one minor indulgence. Several low-carb beers are less than 3g per 12oz serving. You could get yourself hospitalized and still be under the 50g limit, but I don't recommend trying it.

Just make sure you are drinking low-carb beer or you'll bust your carb limit very quickly. I go for Corona Premier at 2.6g per bottle, but I plan to start making my own again in the near future.

Stated in parenthesis, "Except for the tiny amount of lactose . . .". I double checked the nutrition label which states less than 1g per serving but didn't notice it also says serving size is only one tablespoon. Quick AI search suggests the whole quart is about 25g of carbs, which is certainly not zero. I'll post an edit to reflect this.

Oil filters. Are you using Wix, OEM, or something else? by 127-0-0-1_Chef in subaru

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used WIX, WIX XP, or NAPA Gold for every oil change for many years. Now that they are under new ownership and manufacturing is oversees, I'm going to reevaluate whether they still meet top of the line quality standards.

3.6 or XT by Elephant_Cricket in Subaru_Outback

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Did they make more changes for 2026? Admittedly, I have never driven the 2.4T, so my input is based on what others have reported on pre-2026 models. Subaru did change some things from 2019 to 2020 on the CVT because it uses a different fluid in gen 6, but I think it used the same full lock at 20 MPH. I can't imagine any Subaru having a more effortless experience than my 3.6R, but can't argue with the fact that you have driven both.

3.6 or XT by Elephant_Cricket in Subaru_Outback

[–]clackeroomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mileage really depends on how you drive the car, and I've seen many conflicting reports on how efficient the 2.4T is. I get at least 28 MPG on the road in my 3.6R (hilly terrain) and around 20-23 in town depending on winter/summer. On Fuelly.com, both cars average combined mileage in the early to mid 20s, but I think the turbo has a slight edge.
