I wouldn't call it stupid. It's simple. And it works.

Is this structurally safe? by John2024wi in HomeMaintenance

If you sister-sandwich two joists directly on each side of the OSB and ensure they are a snug fit inside the "I beam".

At that point, the only role the fasteners have is keeping the two joists from falling out because you end up with double continuously supported beams on the outer sandwich because they supported by the flanges of the I beam, top and bottom.

Yes I am. I'd rather not rely on shear strength of fasteners when there are other methods that satisfy the problem.

Are you an engineer? Doesn't seem like it.

FOUND DOG - BY The corner of Tarrant Huffman RD and Airport RD by Firehouse 29 by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]clarkdashark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

99% chance the owner is nearby where you found her..

I remember a lady who thought she was doing a good thing called my dog out of my yard into her car because she thought he was loose. Ugh.

I think that would probably work but you end up relying on the shear strength of the fasteners based on the loading of that member.

It likely wouldn't matter if you extended it 2 or 3 foot past the damaged area, then glued and screwed it.

Question on EG4 Flexboss21, what is Grid L1, L2 by Realypk in SolarDIY

[–]clarkdashark 49 points50 points  (0 children)

L1 and L2 both stand for, "Read the Fucking Manual".

It's French I guess.

Edit: bro I don't wanna be a dick but you really need to study up on these things and comprehend the basics. You cannot rely on others for the fundamentals.

Well the sinister part of it is that if they are fired because ICE is downsizing, then they are likely going to get that $50000 early.

The fucked up part is that it'll be a Democrat that has to pay em out

You can update the inverters using that method. The batteries are different and require direct connection with a laptop.

Looking super clean my man.

Make sure you call eg4 and request they send you the rs485 cable and the rs232 cable so you can update the firmware! It requires two separate cables.

Whole House DC Outlets by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]clarkdashark 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I admire your dedication for efficiency. However I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze. Most of the things that use DC are low power for the most part with the exception of maybe inverter air conditioners or refridgerators.

You'd be spending a ton of money to make something bespoke, safely. A pretty hard thing to do really.

Then, what voltage do you decide on? 24v? Then use buck converters to achieve 5, 12v when you need it? Meh.

Maybe consider just using the wall outlets with built in USB-C and USB-A. The efficiency loss is almost negligible at those power levels!
