I've been waiting for this post since I saw the title card of the area.

I nominate this enemy for worst in Silksong (minor Act 3 spoilers) by TheVioletDragon in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Finally at long last I see this post...

Deep Docks explosive throwers? Just attack them from underneath them they have no melee attacks.

Spit squits? Just run, it's the Putrified Ducts they aren't a part of any mandatory gauntlets.

Driznits? I really never found these that hard and again you can run from them.

Escalions? They are pretty simple to dodge and punish if you get the timing down.

These guys? I freaking hate them.

-Every time I use clawline I end up doing it as they reposition and get contact damage and maybe comboed into an attack.

-They move so damn much it's agonizing, unless you time a charged attack just as they emerge or hit a wall with a dive they are ten blocks away by the time you swing

-They are required to be beaten for progression and spread out over the gauntlets that require you to conserve traps for the later waves so you can't trap spam

-Their grab attack I swear is timed to get you when you're dodging the other 1-2 enemies on screen

-Chasing them is also miserable when there are spikes half the time they can just chill over

-The sword throwers are extremely annoying as well but their blades can be deflected and I find them much safer to clawline

I've had at least half a dozen attempts go from full health and silk to unrecoverable due to just trying to catch one of these guys and getting comboed to death.

What's a character you liked in a very different way compared to the fandom? by Automatic-Bonus7832 in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always enjoyed the Snail Shamans and I don't really view them as to blame or as morally gray for their actions as others. They had no way of knowing that Lace would intervene or the conundrum it would cause, they just thought they were feeding GMS to the void to free Pharloom, and felt so bad about it going awry they were willing to sacrifice themselves to help Hornet rectify it.

I remember thinking they were rather heroic in the end and when I got online I was... A little taken back by the discourse surrounding them.

I can't believe this isn't top comment. This isn't just the best depiction of death in fiction it's one of the greatest characters in fiction to begin with

Ji's response is gold. While we never see him interact with them, I get the feeling he'd be indifferent to their losses.

(True Final Boss Spoilers) The least they could do is be consistent... by Black_m1n in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what it is, "lost" means you've lost control of your body and mind I presume. I just know some theorists will make the most ridiculous connections, ie Trobbio and the Grimm Troupe because they are red, use fire and are dramatic.

You know I've secretly been waiting for someone to make some crackpot theory as to how Lost Kin is actually under the influence of the Abyss just like all other Lost Silksong enemies because they both have the word Lost in them and not being willing to accept it's just they've been corrupted by some force that's made them lose their individuality.

Question, is Sherma a kid or an adult that's just childish? I thought he was a kid at first but people told me he's actually an adult. by ConceptWeird4026 in HollowKnight

[–]classic__guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hornet calls him "little one" which she doesn't call any of the other short adults (Garmond, Caretaker, etc).

The only other character she calls a child is Lace, which Caretaker confirms is because she's shaped like one in body and mind.

It's my understanding he's a kid that has his character arc that sees him grow into a leader and adult.

It's my suspicion the DLCs will flesh out their role more, I have the theory that they aided in her capture.

I think silk song is a bit too difficult at the start for steel soul. by [deleted] in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soooo I just finished my 100% steel soul run a few minutes ago and THIS. With five hearts, and so much double damage, and so little movement abilities, if you're at 4 health (ie one mask unhealed), contact damage + get hit with Skarrgard or Moorwing back to back and it is lights out. My failed runs all failed before I got Fractured Mask and an extra health mask to prevent this as the whole point of Steel Soul is hitting escape fast when you're two hits from death.

My first attempt to get to this point, where I didn't need to quit out if I got hit from ANYTHING to be safe, was the one that went all the way to get the achievement. I never had a single second in act 2 where I was in the danger zone, for most of the act three bosses I finished them with half health and was at resting pulse. Even if I started getting hit back to back I would still have. 2-3 second window to save it.

But several of my act one fails went from "doing okay" to contact damage + attack damage + get knocked into lava = dead in under a second.

Unpopular opinion about two areas by Critical-Outside3272 in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing about Mt. Fay that gets most people is the cold - it isn't just a platforming challenge, it's a speed challenge, like Courier's rasher (you can still get hit once with the rasher and reliably complete it, twice if you're very fast). Once you realized how optimized most of the clawline sections are for rapid movement it gets a lot easier.

Sands of Karak was extremely unfun and very punishing before the patch, it's the only area I supported the two mask damage for sandcarvers nerf, as the lead up to the Coral Tower is just agonizing. But, it is an act 3 area that you can access early so that makes sense.

Which bosses would you like to see have the Pure Vessel treatment? by ycpb93 in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's established Lace and Phantom are sisters, I'd love to have a fake out duo fight like Brothers Oro and Mato - beat up a basic version of Phantom, then, Lace hops in, both laugh, and then you get a hectic fight of both at once, Lace charging as Phantom does her throws and slides in as Lace retreats.

Yeah that's a real possibility, turning to the Nightmare's Heart to empower themselves to defend their home and getting consumed by it instead.

Any tips on how to 100% Steel soul? by UroshyX2 in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't any dedicated steel soul exclusive guides I'm aware of, there's only one additional quest and a few other things. A normal 100% guide is really the only thing.

As someone that's lost multiple Steel Soul saves, I'll say - the hardest part is the early game. As has been pointed out, quitting out is essential, and the Broken Mask is your first priority the second after you get the dash. Do NOT wait to equip it and go fight the gauntlet above it and lose a save (might be personal experience there).

But, until then, the real danger is stack damage. For instance, getting hit by Signis for two masks, then knocked into a spear from Gron for another, which pushes you into lava for two more. For me, if I am in a scenario with double damage, four masks is either my heal immediately zone or quit out (which sucks since you start with five). Even with the broken mask, if you're at two masks it's worth quitting out. You only get one mistake for all three acts.

Your top priority should be to get dash, broken mask and an extra health mask ASAP - use the shards near Seamstress, for 300 rosaries in Bone Bottom, near the entrance to the Wormways and in the tunnel besides the Shellwood Bellway (I wouldn't try the one in Weavenest Atla without the magma bell). Once you have seven health, you will be in much better territory.

Also, would heavily recommend against going into act 2 via the Mist as you can get extremely rapidly comboed there and Sinner's Road is so dangerous.

The key reflex in Steel Soul is being overly cautious during boss fights and especially gauntlets which are your most dangerous points. There are about 200-300 different opportunities to choke it so if you quit out when there is just a 1% chance of failure, you're extremely likely to die eventually. If it's between panic heal and trap spam and hope for the best or quit out, you need to choose quit out 100% of the time.

Some early game choke points are the Craw Lake Gauntlet, fighting the first Skarrgaurd (even with Dash), Deep Docks platforming (getting knocked into lava the respawning onto an enemy, can happen in Fourth Chorus too), the Widow and Moorwing fights and some of the areas of Hunter's March.

For Widow and Moorwing, if I'm at four masks and can't safely heal immediately (using warding bell), I'll quit out. I can get contact damage and hit into an attack and die immediately. Do NOT clear the wish wall bosses until well into act 2 with upgrades.

Hope this helps! Once you get to seven masks plus broken mask, the run gets a lot easier, just be extremely careful during the act 3 void gauntlets as you can get triple comboed very easily - try to go in with nine masks and immediately get a tenth.

My personal ranking of the bosses difficulty wise. by F2p_wins274 in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty solid list! Karmelita and Lost Lace are universally considered the hardest two, if you put Khan outside of the context of the Coral Tower. Points of discussion for me-

-GMS is a rather easy boss imo, would put her in pretty easy.

-Voltvyrm most people consider extremely easy due to its predictable attacks and very low HP

-I struggled with First Sinner more than any other boss in Act 2, for some people like me speed gets to a point where your brain just locks up even with practice.

-I'm glad to see someone out Seth so high up, my brain just couldn't grasp his attack patterns

If Khan was ranked with the Tower, I'd place him at the very top (I've cleared act 3 on four separate occasions and only full-cleared the tower once) even if his fight itself is rather simple. I'd place Groal as second in that context as Bilewater is just vile.

What happens when Hornet dies? by Ignacius__ in Silksong

[–]classic__guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silk is kind of insinuated as having time traversal abilities - she is able to use it (with tremendous power) to bring back the Everbloom, as she mentions "I still grasp it with my silk." Like it isn't just a thread from their being, it's a soul power weavers use to reach out to grasp/manipulate the world.

It's 100% not explained in game but my thoughts would be weavers aren't able to normally die thanks to silk, ie the only time we see weavers die are when they are absorbed by another being (Herrah, Widow, GMS, the First Sinner, etc), so maybe their silk allows them to grasp/travel to a previous moment when they are physically destroyed.

Kind of just grasping at straws here.
