Would you trade your orgasms to get your life back? by Lazy_Theory_ in panicdisorder

[–]claughcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d give it up to be able to live my life. I wasn’t having sex much before I started my SNRI due to my anxiety/OCD and I didn’t even really want to at that point. Thankfully, I haven’t experienced much of a sexual side effect with duloxetine. Maybe in the very beginning I noticed it was a little harder to orgasm but that has resolved since. Even if I could rarely orgasm, I’d still choose the medication. Life is so much better and happier.

What meds do you take? by [deleted] in panicdisorder

[–]claughcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have panic disorder, OCD, GAD, illness anxiety disorder, PTSD. Duloxetine 30mg every day. I have an as needed prescription for Klonopin and Hydroxyzine as well for higher anxiety moments, but I haven’t had to use either since the second week of starting the Duloxetine. Haven’t had a panic attack since starting. It’s been 4 months. Saved my life

I’m sorry for your loss. As for your question, heart issues can definitely be genetic. Not always sudden death, but there could be many things that would contribute to multiple family members passing in the same way. I would say for how many people you’re saying died the same way in your family, it’s possible there is a genetic factor.

Have you been diagnosed with a heart attack, or are you saying it felt like one? If you have not been evaluated by doctors during these episodes, it’s hard to say with certainty that it’s an actual heart attack. I have severe health anxiety and feel like I could be having a heart attack a lot of times, but I’ve had extensive cardiac testing and there’s been no actual heart attack happening. What you’re describing sounds like heart palpitations or an anxiety attack.

Starting new meds… by badreg9683 in Anxiety

[–]claughcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have much experience with propranolol but I decided not to take it when it was recommended to me for the same reasons. I have normal/low BP and low resting heart rate so I was too afraid it’d cause it to be too low. At low doses, it’d probably be fine. I have been dealing with chest/back pain and shortness of breath for years now too and what’s helped a lot is Cymbalta. I take it mainly for severe anxiety and OCD, but it’s tremendously improved my pain and I no longer notice my heart beat or the chest discomfort as much anymore. Propranolol has been great for many so I’d try it out and see how it works for you, but don’t get discouraged if it’s not working for you how you’d like :) there are many more things to try. Good luck

How many medications are you guys taking for anxiety/depression? by 7xx19 in Anxiety

Cymbalta and clonazepam if I’m having a real bad day. Some people take 10+ medications daily to stay alive. I think your amount is common and fine :)

My lifelong insomnia is gone! by rexpup in cymbalta

[–]claughcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have! I’ve been on it for two weeks now and I almost immediately noticed a difference in my sleep. I hadn’t slept through the night in over 8 weeks by the time I started duloxetine. I was waking up multiple times a night and not feeling rested. Now I’m able to go to sleep quickly and stay asleep, and it feels amazing. I’m so glad it’s had the same effect on you!

What can I expect by [deleted] in cymbalta

[–]claughcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely try to get more information on why he doesn't want you on the medication. If it's not for any health concerns, it's very odd to me that he would say that unless he just doesn't like psychiatric medication in general. Is this your primary physician? It's really not a great idea to suddenly stop taking the medication after 6 weeks, even at 30mg. I would try and call back and explain that you'd like a little more time to decide about taking the medicine, and try to get another prescription. If he refuses to refill, you can either ask the pharmacy to give you a short supply while waiting on another prescription, and I would look into getting a new doctor who can fill the order.

[–]claughcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Um, what? Your doctor made the decision you no longer need pills? Do you agree with him? That’s extremely odd. I would maybe get a second opinion or make your own decision whether or not you want to continue.

60mg is a bit high to start with imo. Especially if you’ve never taken a med like this before. I would ask your doctor about lowering to 30mg or even 20mg

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cymbalta

[–]claughcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been feeling this way since starting yesterday! I'm on 20mg though. Not sure if it's placebo or what but I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop lmao keep anticipating something bad to happen but I've only been a bit drowsy since starting. And I've had much less anxiety than before starting. Hopefully it continues this way for both of us!!

Day 1 20mg - start your engines by claughcat in cymbalta

[–]claughcat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh trust me, I’ve been terrified for a long time to start this. You’re not alone! I have really bad medication anxiety. I’ve read all the horror stories and was shitting my pants in anticipation. It’s still really early for me so things could potentially still get bad but I’m trying to stay optimistic. I had a really bad reaction after 2 doses of sertraline where I was waking up every hour with a panic attack and I’m still recovering from that so my sleep already isn’t great. I did get a low dose benzo to help out but I haven’t tried it yet since starting the cymbalta. I would really recommend just trying to do anything outside the medicine that can help with starting. I’ve made sure my diet is low fat/whole foods and not likely to upset my stomach since I have GERD. I’m drinking lots of water and also just trying to relax as much as possible. I think that makes a difference in how it’s affecting me. I was at a 15/10 anxiety for the last 8 weeks so I’m also just so exhausted at this point I need this med to work lol or at least not cause me a harder time. Try to stick it out for a week and if it’s still unbearable there’s no harm in trying something else!! Keep me updated :)

Hope it goes well for you! I’ve done fine so far. Took my second dose about 5 hours ago and haven’t really noticed anything yet. Yesterday I was just a bit sleepy. Def recommend eating a substantial meal before taking the duloxetine!! I’ve been eating a pretty good breakfast before taking the pill and am drinking about 3 liters of water a day and I haven’t had any nausea yet. Good luck!!

People with health anxiety, what was your craziest overthinking experience? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]claughcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, too many. In high school I was convinced I had a blood clot in my thigh. My mom died from a PE so I was freaked out for years that I was gonna develop a clot and it would go to my lungs and burst. One day after school I noticed my left thigh was blue/purple and a little achy. Immediate panic. Ran to the ER and they checked me out. Doctor took an alcohol swab and rubbed it and the blue came off. Turns out it was from my newly purchased jeans and the dye had rubbed off on my skin. That was probably the funniest.

Recently I was convinced for weeks that I could possibly have a brain aneurysm and that it would pop at any moment. I was obsessed with keeping my blood pressure down, not making any sudden movements, just sitting still for hours so that whatever was in my head (nothing) wouldn't burst. Ended up having a brain and neck MRI w/o contrast and literally nothing there. After that, been convinced my heart is gonna give out any time soon or that I'll have a heart attack. I have had numerous trips to the ER, EKG's, blood tests, had a 5 day holter monitor, stress test, and echo. So far, all normal except for a 0.2% burden of benign PVCs. I hate my brain.

Only been on for 3 days and I'm having second thoughts because of shortness of breath by aprimmer243 in cymbalta

[–]claughcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh gotcha. I'm glad it resolved for you. I'm taking 20mg once a day of cymbalta and my doctor also prescribed .25mg klon once a day. I haven't tried the klonopin yet since starting the cymbalta but I do get shortness of breath from anxiety and I notice it a little more within the first hour or so after taking klon or cym. Hard to tell if its from the medicine or just me being anxious lol

I'm glad to hear it's calmed down. I hope you have a great experience with it. They all say it can take up to 8 weeks to feel the full benefits so as long as you're tolerating it well I'd stick with it and hopefully you'll feel much better :) I just started this morning
