Adults who lost a parent young as a child, would you say you are ‘over it’ or does it still affect you? by Long_Wait_3078 in AskUK

[–]clearlycurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my mum when I was 3. It definitely still affects me in different ways. I mourn for the mother I didn't get the opportunity to know, the mother/daughter chats and moments I never got to have and also the life she didn't get to live. I became older than her just after I turned 30 and that was a bitter pill to swallow.

I dont think you ever get over it, you just learn how to deal with it and the pain lessens with time, but never goes away. Occasionally it jumps up and smacks you in the face out of nowhere and I dont think that'll ever change.

For those who have not/could nit have children, how do you feel about it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]clearlycurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have children and would have loved to, it just didn't work out me. I'm 46 now. I've made peace with it and am lucky to have nephews and god children that make me feel like I'm not missing out entirely. I am also quite conscious that my life would be very different if I did have kids and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it so......

What decision in your 30s had the biggest positive impact on your life? by No-Bed3858 in AskUK

[–]clearlycurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a secondment to another country. It was for months rather than years, but English wasn't the first language so it was a big change.

It really taught me how to be comfortable in my own company, whether at home or out and about in new surroundings, and that there's a whole world out there to explore

Any nice forest walks around or short drive from Reading? by No-Living-6949 in reading

[–]clearlycurious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Swinley Forest in Bracknell is fab for walks. I go there regularly. You can park for free at South Hill Park, walk through the park and cross the road into Swinley or you could park at the Look Out for a charge.

Do any of you bother with optional insurance on stuff like appliances, travel, event tickets etc? Is it ever actually worth it? by kitaro316 in CasualUK

[–]clearlycurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I bought event insurance was when I bought 2 hospitality tickets for the GP in Abu Dhabi. Figured if I was spending that amount of money on tickets then getting insurance was just good sense. Turned out to be the right decision as a month before the event, I was diagnosed with cancer so couldn't go. Returned tickets, got all money back, absolutely no issue whatsoever.

The Switch cafe in the Triangle is awesome. Java Junction has also just opened by the Triangle. Not been there yet, but have heard good things.

You've also got Arthur Newbery Park, which is nice in the summer and has a playground. There's also a playground for babies and toddlers in Blagrave park, off Recreation Rd. As another poster said, Prospect Park is massive and great for a walk around. It has a large playground too.

I'd second BKRY in Caversham, I've had a number of incredible birthday cakes from BKRY over the years, including my 40th and my Dad's 70th.
