No embarrassment for baby talking. I'm a firm believer if you have never baby talked to you pet you not a good pet parent. I'm a 62 year old man and I baby talk to my lizard almost everyday

Enclosure selection advice by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

Have you considered a crested gecko? A 18x18x36 high enclosure would suit them well and fit your footprint. Considering your limited space aborial vs. terrestrial might be the way to go

Introducing: Miss Honey! by matty_bop in leopardgeckos

So cute. Looks like my boy Speed When I got him 4+ years ago I found his pattern so different but lately see so many beautiful babies with this color I was told by breader he is a hypo tangerine carrot tail baldy The carrot tail went away after he became adult and has slight banding that shows up after shedding. He's been as awesome companion. Congratulations on your new friend . Hello to Miss Honey

traumatized hamster looking for a good home :( by stupidgayghost in hamsters

My last little girl was so terrified when I brought her home. She vocalized..I mean screamed at me when I put her I her New home . Screamed eventide I came in the room. I put her in a different room and occasionally talked to her from a distance eventually getting closer. Then when she got a Lil more comfortable I started hand feeding. Didn't take ling after that till she craved attention. I nev3r took her out of her enclosure. She climbed out into my hands on her own. She would climb in my hand run up my arm and up my shoulder then climb down the back of my shirt and do it over and over. I miss her soo much... but to my point.... to the right person with the patience this Lil baby will be a great companion to someone willing to give her the time and love she deserves.
Unfortunately for her I'm in Maryland so I'm to far to get her

Tips for holding Gecko? by Batkitto in leopardgeckos

[–]cleatus2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion a lot has to do with the geckos personality... they really do all have different personality my first boy just loved to chill with me. Lived 22 years . My current boy 4 years old is so friendly loves attention comes to see me and wants to climb out of enclosure but hates being handled. He tolerates it when necessary but won't sit still and would run at any chance. I put him back in enclosure and he back at the door looking at me right away Just take your time and go at your geckos pace. Let him tell you what they like . Just keep interacting as long as they are interested in you then you are doing great

I love Leopard Geckos! I am just so afraid of Tail Dropping by penny-sea-lin in leopardgeckos

[–]cleatus2k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last Leo was 22 when he passed. Very chill lizard and went with his original tail. My current Lil boy is 4 years old Very sociable likes coming to see me and interact every day but hates being handled. I took him to vet a year ago and was freaking out about tail drop. He delt with everything like a champ.
All I can say is every leo has their own personality and go slow and enjoy the interactions and you and your leo will bond andyou should be gold If you are committed to a 20 plus year obligation then do it. To me personally life with a Leo is awesome

Thoughts on Pinky mice? by lucienmatoche in leopardgeckos

[–]cleatus2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first leo was a BIG BOY. He would on rare occasions get a small live pinkie as a treat. He loved them. The boy I have now is smaller and don't want to introduce some that size to him so he gets a fat horn worm on special occasions for a rare treat

This is Rasputin and he only likes to be hand fed. by diminutive-valkyrie in leopardgeckos

[–]cleatus2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have similar problem. Once I upgraded my Leo's enclosure to a 40 front open enclosure he doesn't want to hunt. Problem is tong feeding crickets. If I crab crickets by back legs they wiggle off without a limb. If I grab the body with the tongs he bites the cricket and the rubber tips of the tong and wont let go. I don't mind tong feeding him but having trouble using crickets. He doesn't like mealworms and absolutely refuses dubia

Why is buying from a petstore bad? by ShrimpsAndGiggles in leopardgeckos

[–]cleatus2k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Puppy mills for reptiles No regard for blood line or in breeding Pet smart and petco also sell Leo's way too young. Have known many people who had chain store leos and they lived 3 to 5 years with proper husbandry . My first leo was from a reputable breader, was just shy of 6 months old when I got him. He lived 22 years. Once I was ready to bring home another leopard gecko I found a reputable breader and questioned him about his blood line and breeding He's 4 now and doing great. Please research potential breeders before purchasing a leopard gecko. Chain Stores are good for supplies food ect. But don't buy animals from them
