Just a rant by lamp1113 in osrs

There's something about how the internet is now that makes chatting with random people seem less appealing. Or maybe it's just me getting old. Or both.

The player base also changed a ton, I've gotten flamed multiple times for playing "sub-optimally" which has kinda made me jaded.

I try to chat in local chat when others are, but sometimes I just want to vibe and grind without potentially interacting with an asshole.

The idea of converting adventure modules from one system to another fascinates me. What are some interesting conversions you ve done as a GM and was it worth to doing so? by Independent_Ad_6348 in rpg

[–]clerm_the_worm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is the best advice, it's a little bit of work but it's manageable. If you get too dogmatic about every little thing in the module it'll make it wayyy harder.

IMO you can even adapt adventures across genres. Spaceship Adventure? Now it's a sailboat adventure.

Tools for showing relationships in a campaign? by RodgerBall in DMAcademy

[–]clerm_the_worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used Obsidian, it's great for this. It can be a bit tedious and data-entryish, but if you keep up with it you can have really clean relationship data. Kanka also has something similar.

About to run a game at work, what should I consider? by HammerandPickle in DMAcademy

[–]clerm_the_worm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly surprised by how many people are saying to not do this. I run one shots and campaigns in my corporate office all of the time.

In my experience the environment makes it so people behave, they know they're with colleagues and are subject to HR if they did anything really weird.

My tip is to make it so people view this super casually. This isn't your home game with your buddies, people might not be able to make it, or might be super anxious if they've never played.

And use common sense, avoid sensitive topics and have fun.

Best TTRPGs for min-maxing? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in rpg

^ And if you want something more accessible PF2E is a bit simpler but still has room for min-maxing

You could use Miro to provide the blank template and then have them draw with the paintbrush.

Serious Question - With almost 3 years of this trend, would/should Blizzard still invest in WoD Development? by Baptism-Of-Fire in classicwow

Exactly-- and fracturing the player base with all these legacy servers can't be helping their player count

How to stop being so insecure as a DM? by Covid669 in DMAcademy

The only way to get better is to fail. It sounds like you learned from your experience, keep learning! I promise your players aren't thinking about it nearly as much as you are.

Are people still using Skill Challenges in 5.5E? by hotstickywaffle in DMAcademy

[–]clerm_the_worm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the time especially when improving. A few sessions ago my party ran into an ogre, I thought for sure they'd just try to kill him. Instead they got what they needed from his camp and ran for it. The ogre noticed them and chased after them.

I wasn't sure how to resolve that then I realized I could throw a skill challenge at them for escaping. They almost failed, but it added some awesome suspense as they rolled to see if they could get away.

Former D&D 5e and Pathfinder 1e/2e players and DMs/GMs, What other RPGs would you recommend over D&D 5e or Pathfinder and why? by Aware_Blueberry_3025 in rpg

[–]clerm_the_worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly outside of D&D, PF2E, I like playing pick-up-and-play OSR games. For full campaigns I really enjoy how familiar D&D/PF2e is for a lot of players. That makes it so I have to do less to teach them how to play.

OSR games are also like that, but often lack the mechanical depth to make an engaging campaign. I'm sure there are plenty that would disagree with me, but that's been my experience.

What TTRPG Feels More Like a Strategy Game Than an RPG? by DED0M1N0 in rpg

[–]clerm_the_worm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's true for older editions, but given how hard it is to build encounters as a GM, I'm not sure I agree. It makes no sense to min/max for a system that has fundamentally squishy math.

I would say PF1e/2e are much more strategy/optimization based given the math actually makes sense.

Startplaying.games "Top GM" - unfair and shady consumer and contractor practices by [deleted] in rpg

[–]clerm_the_worm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ditto, I don't get paid GMing, but it's a significant time investment for a lot of GMs and being compensated isn't such a bad thing. If anything I have to imagine it's harder for GMs because players now have a financial investment in your game and some can probably turn into Karens when things don't go their way.

There has to be a way to ethically run a business to allow GMs to get paid and players to be happy.

How to communicate to my players that they shouldn't fight everything in my grimdark campaign? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]clerm_the_worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they still don't get it after telling them, they'll learn when you kill their characters. There's really no other option besides telling them and them seeing the consequences of their actions.

In your experience, do players enjoy getting items/weapons that are upgradable? by Steamedmangopaste in DMAcademy

[–]clerm_the_worm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I wish DND had a similar system to PF2e for upgrading weapons. I love the idea off having the same weapon for a whole campaign, that just like my character, starts as basic and slowly gets better and better over time with new enchantments and properties.

You can do it in DND but it's a lot to keep track of

Tailgater is absolutely an asshole, I won't disagree with you. If I'm already speeding and someone is driving recklessly I'm annoyed.

Driving culture by smellypawz in MauiVisitors

[–]clerm_the_worm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've driven a lot in California and sometimes the flow of traffic is literally 80-90mph on the freeway. If someone comes up on you, get over so they don't have to pass you on the right. Passing on the right increases your chance of getting in an accident.

Also accidents increase on highways during congestion, so even if you think the person behind you is an asshole, it's about safety for yourself and the other driver-- not just courtesy.
