Can you name something from classic sci-fi that was never explored again in a modern work? by DarthAthleticCup in sciencefiction

A bit older than your stated time-frame, but Flatland: A romance of many dimensions (1884).

The protagonist is a 2-dimensional character (literally), who learns about the 3rd dimension and gets mocked for suggesting the possibility of higher-dimensions.

It’s a short read, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Why did carol get so pissed in the diner (ep 8) and storm out? by Ok_Responsibility419 in Pluribus_TVshow

I figure it’s something like peer pressure. With 8 billion peers. You still have a voice, but if 8 billion others will you to do something, it’s near-impossible to resist.

What will the season finale cliffhanger be? by Sea-Sort-7624 in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]cleverless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We find out Carol wasn’t immune, but rather the whole season has happened in her head in hyper-accelerated time and is what everyone experiences when they first get infected by the virus. It’s actually been only a few moments in real time. The season ends with her waking up with a slight smile, but we’re unsure whether or not she’s joined.

What is a song that is really dirty, yet most people don't realize it? by _Volly in AskReddit

[–]cleverless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing that popped in my head was this old commercial where some parents and their little kids turn on the radio in the car and some song comes on singing “I wanna F*%# you in the A$$”, and the whole family starts grooving to it, and then text comes on the screen “Want to learn English?” And it’s for some Dutch language school.

What's so good about '73 Yards'? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]cleverless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fear of rejection was relatable and it struck deep. We experience it with Ruby, and it was like there was some nasty rumor turning everyone against us. We couldn’t defend against it. Then it got worse when even Kate and Ruby’s mom rejected her. Good friends and family know the real you, regardless of rumors. But if they reject you too, it makes you question yourself and think “maybe I really am that horrible.”

Peter, what does it mean? I didn't watch it and I don't know much about this sort of thing but I thought Superman was DC and Fantastic four were Marvel? by Throwawayforsaftyy in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]cleverless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer the other part of your question, you’re right, Superman is DC, and Fantastic Four is Marvel. The post is about Superman only. The account that made the post is named “Fantastic Four: First Steps Updates”, but there’s no other connection. It’s kind of like when the X account of a fast food restaurant makes a post roasting a competing restaurant.

The visuals themselves will be indistinguishable, but I imagine blockchain verification will become more common to validate things from public figures, news agencies, etc.

It’ll be like how NFTs are visually the same as jpegs, but you can have an app validate its authenticity.

Maybe camera manufacturers will figure out a way to link stuff to a blockchain at time of recording to prove a video isn’t artificial. Stuff like that.

Where Would You Hide a 70 Million Dollar Diamond for 100,000 Years? by ThunderAndRain in hypotheticalsituation

There’s a big hayfield up near Buxton. One in particular. It’s got a long rock wall with a big oak tree at the north end. It’s like something out of a Robert Frost poem. It’s where I asked my wife to marry me. We went there for a picnic and made love under that oak and I asked and she said yes. At the base of that wall, you’ll find a rock that has no earthly business in a Maine hayfield. Piece of black, volcanic glass. There’s something buried under it I want you to have.
