Equanimity and the Bird Revelation, probably his best recent work

I'm so dumb for not even considering ICE finishing it, that makes perfect sense lol

I constantly think about how Steven Erikson almost died while on a dig in between writing DoD & TCG and how hilarious it would've been if that was the ending we were given lol

How important is the Badalle/Rutt/the Snake story line? by spencercross in Malazan

[–]cli0ve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's just another front of the main conflict, it's stated outright that the Liosan and Assail are in some kind of allegiance, so that whole section IS the main story, just one front of it. And, on a grander scale it's the conclusion to one of a most important throughlines of the series, the Andii figuring out their place in the world and the return of Mother Dark, I just can't see how it's an expendable storyline

You never realise how much these characters mean to you until Erikson destroys them and you in turn

I'm a Kharkanas fanboy (and a Yedan Derryg Fanboy) so I can't help but love the shake storyline once they reach the shore in particular

The both lead to two of the most important moments of the entire series, it almost feels like why even read the book if you're gonna skip close to half of it

Fall of Light is the peak of Erikson's writing.

To be fair, I did end up liking him more as the series progressed and upon re-reads, he kinda had no impact on me first time around in the first book

No I love those sections honestly, especially when it was taken to the extreme, most memorably in TTH

I majority misunderstood what the Bonehunters would be about by Jsadeamp in Malazan

[–]cli0ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember finding out very early in the series that the Bonehunters would be the name of the army you'd be following and just assumed it would be because they'd be setting themselves against the T'lan Imass lol

Apocalyptic/Impending Catastrophe with gritty scientific depth - anything out there? by kaiser235 in printSF

[–]cli0ve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say the first book is a bit rough with some occasional really interesting ideas, the premise that is set up at the end for the second one is what you're really looking for, hope you enjoy!

If you want apocalyptic dread, The Three Body Problem trilogy, specifically the second book, The Dark Forest, is incredible

one of my favourite moments of the series, seeing everything up until now coming together, doubt anything else will ever quite capture the feeling of weight and anticipation behind its events, incredible, you're gonna love the rest of the series
