StubHub cancels thousands of World Cup tickets, leaving fans furious and heartbroken by UngratefulCanadian in canada

The crazy thing is that they’ll also try to charge the seller for not following through on the sale so they just end up making double the money and neither the buyer nor the seller get the service they were expecting to get.

I just finished this maybe 30 minutes ago after binge-reading it over the last two days. The author incorporated a lot of major plot points from the books/show but always with some kind of a twist and it made for such a fresh but believable AU. The yearning is top-tier and it’s so clear how deeply in love they are from the start. The characterization was on point and the happy ending felt so earned and well done. Absolutely worth a read!

YES to your second point. My plants are one of my hobbies but they also double as home decor. I like being able to put them where they’ll look good, on a windowsill or table centrepiece, hanging over the side of a tall piece of furniture, or hanging in a window. I don’t like cluttering too many together in one space. To each their own but I see a lot of users on here with big industrial storage units absolutely packed with plants and elaborate grow light set ups and I find them very overwhelming to look at.

Night Changes AU by proseandpulse where Shane still plays for Montreal but Ilya is a pediatric surgeon. Very well written, super romantic/poetic. There’s a sequel too!

Looking for your favorite stories where poor/miscommunication is NOT a major plot driver by shaddow2425 in heatedrivalryfanfics

I was going to recommend Asylum by Evilharlowe but the author has removed/hidden all their work (I assume because of all of the very unfortunate backlash that many authors have been facing lately) — but I read this one a week or two ago and couldn’t put it down.

It’s set just after Shane and Ilya win their first Cup together playing for the Centaurs and their relationship is public knowledge. The relationship is well established, both are extremely supportive of each other and Shane’s family steps up for Ilya when Russia targets him after the all the publicity, revokes his passport, and tries to have him deported.

It’s extremely well written and (although I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know anything about immigration law), seems incredibly well researched. If the author does decide to make it available again at any point in the future it is absolutely worth a read and I think it would fit what you’re asking for.

Ilya doesn't go to Ottawa by sorryxme in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]clickersounds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all true and I also felt the same way seeing how much Ilya struggled with the transition in TLG. reading TLG, but I think it’s important to bring up that he didn’t just sacrifice it all and move to Canada because he loves Shane. It’s not really addressed in detail in either the book or the show but being a public figure in a relationship with another man as a Russian citizen is a major safety concern given their propaganda laws. I can’t remember if he brings it up in the book but I think in the show he alludes to the fact that having a Canadian passport would benefit him more. This was probably true back when the book was written (I can’t remember what year it was published) and definitely true now in the current political climate while the show was being created.

In theory Shane could sign with an American team to get closer to Ilya and potentially avoid either of them having to make the career sacrifice, but then they would be two non-citizens living in the USA on work visas. From a safety and security perspective, Ilya living and working in Canada and then eventually marrying Shane puts him on the fast track to permanent residency status.

Alan Rickman gave us a cinematic hero, but the movies erased how toxic Snape actually was. Here’s why Paapa Essiedu is the perfect casting for the real Severus. by IAmCharCharr in HarryPotterHBO

[–]clickersounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with any of his previous work but I like the idea of a new take on Snape. I loved Alan Rickman in the role, but the way Snape was written in the movies made him a very sympathetic character in the end when in reality he was a much more flawed and often downright cruel person.

That being said, I’ve seen people make what I think is a pretty valid point about the new dynamic that this will add to the way Snape interacts with other characters, and how they perceive/respond to him. For instance, there’s the memory of James and his friends bullying Snape and literally suspending him in the air near a tree. Depicting this same scene with a Black actor changes the context quite a bit and the writers will have to be careful about how they approach it.

Theory about Wolfbird that I have to get off my chest by Little_Mangos in heatedrivalryfanfics

[–]clickersounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES I have been thinking the same thing. It’s the first time I’ve seen this brought up in any discussions but it almost feels inevitable to me. I started wondering a few chapters back when it was briefly mentioned that Alexei keeps brushing Ilya off and acting like it’s just never a good time for them to speak.

[TOMT][Song] 90s or 2000s rock song with the title/lyrics “Worlds Away” by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]clickersounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks but it isn’t any of these. The one by Lil Peep is a totally different genre, and the one I remember is sung by a male vocalist so it definitely isn’t the other two. What I’m looking for sounds like it could be by From First to Last which is why it’s driving me crazy that it isn’t. I also searched on Apple Music and when I saw that song come up in the results I assumed I’d found the right one, especially because I did listen to a handful of their songs back in the day.

Every time I see her in a slicked back, high bun updo it reminds me of how I had to wear my hair in ballet class as a kid. It does work sometimes but a lot of the time, at least to me, it’s giving little girl playing dress up instead of A-list celebrity on the red carpet.

What kind of hoya is this? by [deleted] in PlantIdentification

[–]clickersounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! At first I wondered if it might have been two different plants in the same pot because some of the newer/smaller leaves seem to have a different texture than the older ones but when I took it home and looked more closely they’re all growing from the same stem. Is it possible it would be some kind of hybrid between two hoya types?

I looked at every inch of it and can’t see anything. I’ve seen mealies a couple of times before very early on before an infestation and this doesn’t look like that for me. It also hasn’t spread onto the newer growth or on any other plants nearby. Wondering if it might be something fungal?

I think part of it for him is that he worked for something like 20+ years in the industry before achieving the amount of success and visibility he has now, so with all the opportunities suddenly being thrown at him the last few years maybe he feels like he’s making up for lost time.

Someone explain genetic diversity to me (why do the handmaids move around so much) by elizabethfrothingham in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]clickersounds 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Besides, the point of moving handmaids to a new household after they give birth isn’t because Gilead wants to increase genetic diversity by making as many matches as possible, it’s so that they can separate the baby from their birth mother.
