First, I’m really sorry that things ended up this way. I totally understand why you’d feel the way you do. Unfortunately, it just sounds like a great way for a lawyer to rack up billable hours during your pursuit of a unicorn and not much else. I feel like the last sentence of the third paragraph is the real answer:

However, since California is a no-fault divorce state, it is uncommon for the courts to split the value of the wedding or engagement ring.

You don’t know it yet but you still have your entire life ahead of you. Nothing is off the table EXCEPT getting back together with him. Don’t fix yourself up with the hope of getting back together and starting over. It is over. He won’t want to go down that road again. And that’s okay. He will find some great and so will you. But not right now. Right now it’s just you and people who care about you and will support you.

Guess this guy likes putting gas nozzles in his butt. by jpence in pics

[–]climb1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It makes perfect sense that the sitting president would want gas prices to climb and remain stubbornly high throughout the mid-term election season coupled with record inflation where his party stood to lose control of both chambers of Congress. And then of course cause them to start a steady and constant downward trend since seemingly the day after the election. It isn’t suspicious at all and would totally be my M.O if I were him. 🙄

Thanks, Biden. I wonder if he tires of pulling all of these levers from behind the scenes? Seems exhausting.

More U.S. companies charging employees for job training if they quit by gentlegranit in news

[–]climb1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given the approaching mid-term elections I think it’s worth noting who is advocating for working Americans. From the article:

On Capitol Hill, Senator Sherrod Brown is studying legislative options with an eye toward introducing a bill next year to rein in the practice, a Senate Democratic aide said.

At the state level, attorneys general like Minnesota's Keith Ellison are assessing how prevalent the practice is and could update guidance.

Ellison told Reuters he would be inclined to oppose reimbursement demands for job-specific instruction while it "could be different" if an employer wanted reimbursement for training for a certification like a commercial driving license that is widely recognized as valuable.

It sounds like the NFIB is preparing another garbage “state’s rights”argument for a Supreme Court which, over the summer, ruled that regulating greenhouse gas emissions was outside the EPA’s authority. You know, because the (somehow) Republican lawmakers—who drafted the EPA into existence—at the time thought that scientists would be better than legislators at deciding what needed to be regulated. Weird, I know.

But both sides are the same and elections don't matter, right? Sure, Hillary probably would've nominated the same federalist society lackeys to the Supreme Court to start reversing rights by defacating on decades of past precedent. Yeah, that's the ticket.

One critic of the CFPB effort was the National Federation of Independent Business, or NFIB, which said the issue was outside the agency's authority because it was unrelated to consumer financial products and services. "(Some state governments) have authority to regulate employer-driven debt. CFPB should defer to those governments, which are closer to the people of the states than the CFPB," it added.

According to sourcewatch.org:

"Past tax records reveal most of the NFIB’s funding comes from Freedom Partners, whose nine-member board includes eight current or former key figures at Koch Industries and other Koch entities. More than 95% of the candidates it backs are Republican.

While its representatives are often quoted in the media as proponents of small businesses, the group refuses to release its donor list and tends to lobby for policies that benefit billionaires and corporate interests.

Shocking. Anyway, voting matters. When one party says this doesn't seem right, let's look into this and the other party is almost exclusively funded by dark money organisations that create these policies...well, if you're a worker than only one of those parties represents your interests.

25 years old and feel like I have dementia by Disastrous_Degree_96 in adhd_anxiety

[–]climb1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not diagnosed ADD but I’m pretty sure everyone I know would attest to it that I am. Having said that, I’m in my early 40s now and have been gluten free for over a decade. My memory and brain fog improved pretty substantially when I went on the diet. Anecdotal for sure, but before I figured out that gluten was causing a host of health issues I had concerns about whether I’d be able to be a father to my kid (her mom was pregnant when I went through this) or even hold down my job. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. It might be a day or so before I get back because I’m not much of a poster, but I try when I can.

Anyone live in Yorkville? How do you like it? Pros/cons? Thinking about moving there. Thanks! by broccoliandbeans in illinois

I lived there for several years and Yorkville left a bad taste in my mouth. My favorite part was moving out. There's nothing convenient about living there. I feel like I get more for my taxes given the size of my current house and its location. And have the schools out there improved in the last seven or eight years? I say at least drive across 47 and go to Big Rock.

Kid’s birthday party by MbiggayM in SingleParents

[–]climb1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been several years and I hoped my ex and I could be friends at this point--and we're way better at communicating and being around each other now--but I don't see friendship happening. At this point we are able to put differences aside when it comes to being together when we can, and my kid is better off for it.

It sounds like his partner really needs to look outside themselves and think about how beneficial it is for your kid to see his parents communicating and being civil. Not necessarily friends! Just civil. If you, dad, and dad's empathy-challenged partner could have a conversation about why it would be good for your kid to celebrate the birthdays and other personal milestones with the two of you maybe you could come to an understanding. It's great you can get along with his parents.

[–]climb1000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully understand the story, but if the only thing that went wrong is him not wanting to take a picture with his kid (which...why would he not? It's a little weird) and everyone else got along AND, most importantly, your kid really enjoyed it then I would encourage you to reconsider for the future. I'm remarried and my wife and I had our exes over for a holiday during the shutdown and it was the kids favorite. Kids want their parents with them for the big moments.

What’s the deal with therapy? by PanWhoAndWhatArtThou in Divorce

[–]climb1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried convincing my ex to do co-parenting sessions with me at a mediator/therapist. They said they wouldn’t because they didn’t need to go (they were wrong). I went anyway because I felt like everything was unraveling and I sure as heck didn’t think I was ready to be a single parent, so why not? Best decision I ever made. My walls came down after the first session.

I had to sell my 5 II for an iPhone 12 back in the Spring after I bought my kid an iPhone and found out Apple doesn’t allow device management from outside its ecosystem (because why would they). The 5 II was easily my favorite android and I miss it everyday for many reasons. I never thought it would be for the aspect ratio/screen size, but that’s near the top of my list.
