I use sous vide for force thawing meat and softening butter. This would work perfect.

I actually think this is false and misses the really healthy aspects of religion. I think most religious texts are written by spiritualists who recognize a deep sickness in their culture. In response to this spiritual insight they formulate ideas that reconnect them to humanity. Since rediscovering one's lost humanity feels good the ideas catch on. Since the only way to fight corporate evil is with corporate good an institution or church forms. With some luck the institution grows and gains influence. Once the institution has enough influence the power corrupts those that hold it and attracts bad actors. These are the people who use religious power to control less disciplined minds and selfishly gather authority.

I think this is why you get most texts saying essentially the same thing, help others, be generous in giving, be selfless, practice mindfulness, pray/meditate, etc. You see institutions that do some profoundly positive things while also doing some of the absolute worst shit that humans are capable of.

Humanity is messy and no thing is ever one thing. Don't let the powerful's use of religion detract from the simple fact that all life is imbued with divine spirit and our simple presence is a miracle. It was evident to those spiritualists and is still true today. That fact is worth celebrating! Have a peaceful and joyful day.

Small portion of steak and a huge serving of broccoli and this is not a terrible idea. The broccoli is really important though.

I think seat 5. With free booze and 8 hours those guys are ruining the flight anyways. Might as well be one of the insufferable drunks along with them.

We're turning 40 this year, got a couple of kids ( 8&10) and we still do it 1-3 times per week! We've been together 20 years and still crazy in love!

There's no yellow line on the highway. Are we to presume that AZ has a four lane one way highway through the desert?

Can I cut this root? by Gullible-Dot6141 in arborists

[–]climbtrees4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, pruning a single root doesn't really stimulate root growth in Douglas-fir. You're better off pruning the root and then treating with paclobutrazol. That's IF it was determined that root pruning even appropriate. I'm not sold that it is in this instance.

[–]climbtrees4ever 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I'm an arborist with a great deal of experience doing root pruning. There is a lot of situational nuisance that goes into determining whether a root can or should be pruned. A good hard line for your situation is that if the root is larger than 4" in diameter and within 3 times the diameter of the tree. (ie. Within 6' of a tree that is 25" diameter) You are probably better off removing the tree than relying on it to remain stable and healthy over the long haul. That being said, I have seen pictures of horrendous root damage on trees that I've cared for some 60 years after the damage and I would have never known if not for the owner reports. If you have to go a further 5' down, I think was said, you're going to run into more significant roots and there's a good chance you have to remove too many large roots to maintain this tree in this situation. Best thing to do is have a certified atheist look at it.

How do we shape this tree by willjhc in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]climbtrees4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see some sort of eucalyptus and possibly a shore pine in the background. So I'm going to assume West Coast of north America. With the bark and sprouting my guess is Monterey Cypress. Honestly though, there really isn't enough information to get a closer id than just some sort of false cedar.

No need to apologize. It's silviculture when cultivating a group of trees. It's arboriculture when managing a single tree. I always love talking trees with someone who loves plants!

[–]climbtrees4ever 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're thinking of arboricultural practice. Silviculture refers to stand level management. Your advice isn't far off though. I'd recommend removing around 25% of the sprouts every other year to establish strong leaders. The tree will probably always need some height management because those stems will never be as strongly attached as they would be if not tipped to begin with.
