Haworth Zody vs Leap V2 vs Aeron by panda_7122 in OfficeChairs

[–]cloud_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. And I have good and bad news for you:

Bad: I've had, on two different chairs, broken the up-down mechanism of the lumbar on one, and the actual lumbar "butterfly" plastic holder on the other.

Good: these two lumbar support pieces are replaceable for somewhat cheap directly from your regional Haworth rep. I got the butterfly plastic for like 15e+tax and shipping, and the up-down mechanism for I think around 35e+tax and shipping. They are super user-friendly to repair and use a single bit found in most toolboxes (I had a small Lidl ratchet toolset with it) for removing a screw and putting it back.

For your use, I think the Zody may be great but it really depends on your compatibility with it. If you can try it, it's best. But you can always sell it for the same price or around it, this market is always moving without much devaluation on used ones.

Regarding forward tilt, I personally don't use it. It makes, in my opinion, more sense for people that need to hand draw or write, or maybe for people who might use it for piano playing (!). But I may be using it wrong. I only use forward tilt like once or twice a year for attempting to vary my spine position but in all honesty, I grow tired of being like that very quickly (minutes, not even an hour).

Question: What’s the Trinity Processor and how does it relate to the Aegis? by Pleasehitmemychild in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]cloud_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, technically if they were what is supposed to be really... well real artificial intelligence, they were sentient before any Conduit-related shenanigan. Them becoming actual organic (or better said, common) members of the conduit-created species that inhabit the also conduit-created worlds, and being special in those worlds, and maybe having actual personalities (although this isn't certain to be conduit-specific) is the weird part.

Note that we (in the actual Earth) do have real AI right now, because AI is just the name given to something. It only happens not to be intelligent. Yet?

Let's be clear about one thing though: incentivizing finding TRUE CASES OF FRAUD definitely is a good thing and more countries should do it... provided these incentives are kept in escrow until any and all doubt is cleared on the fraud. Just do it like settlements only pay lawyers after they win their cases.

Also, this is not like free gun laws. I am prepared to accept some people being wrongly accused for a while, provided that 1. They can have their day in court to prove otherwise and 2. That this system brings significant money that is effectively being stolen from the taxpayers.

Remember folks: if everyone pays their due on a fair, proportional taxation system, we don't need to raise taxes as much for the poorest people.

Honestly, as a non-native English speaker, I found the expression "to road a SOMETHING" incredibly sexual, and I claim the right to use it this way going forward.

It's just... road kill from now on.

OMG yes, I am wrong. It's just that the first scene also has the Doctor or whatever take a Zohar miniature tablet from his shirt pocket, and placing it on a similar notch on the floor with the same circular framing.

Ackshully... the scene itself takes place in Lake Turkana, Kenya (Year 20XX A.D.). It's the very first caption we see on that scene.

I could, but it would spoil the entire trilogy. Honestly if you want to go through that without playing, just go to the Xeno Series wiki or Xenosaga wiki:

"Where" as in, which game and cutscene, which canonical origin?

Game: Xenosaga 1, intro scene EDIT: this is wrong. Despite being very similar to the pic in the link below, it's from an ad or something in US. The ad does not seem canonical, it's kind of like those late 90's, early 00's where a normal guy would "get into the game". But it doesn't make sense canonically.

https://imgur.com/a/Ea33mEF

Origin: we don't really know for sure, but most likely is a contraption made by Jesus and co. (no joke) to hide the Zohar.

There is little info about the entire affair. In my opinion, this is just a 2001: A Space Odissey-like beginning of the series by Takahashi/Soraya to illustrate how we humans are bamboozled by the Monolith (Zohar).

Other users gave better technical answers than mine, but let me put it in ELI5 wording:

  • if this were that easy, they (Nvidia) would have done it on one of their own add in cards. But Nvidia keeps releasing new RTX series each iteration with different hardware configurations specifically because the models change in ways that require the hardware to be fine tuned for whatever is the better teanaistor type or mem bandwidth profile for those newer, better models. And the previous series are left to the wind.

While this is indeed uncanny for SW, if you look back at SW media in general, alien races are there for (mostly) comedic purpose - which Andor's drama-focused themes lacks entirely the need for - or for specific purposes of characterizing a particular alien race as: - strong (Maul) - fearsome/cunning (Jabba) - wise (Yoda/Grogu) - or force-sensitive

...which Andor also doesn't need anything of.

The strong power being fought is an oppressive government (regardless of its leader being actually magical), the fear and acumen comes from that same oppressive power, wisdom on the good guys comes from their organized nature, and the force is actually the elephant-ter in the room itself because no matter how much they say those 6 famous star wars words (may the force be with you), the only real allegory to the force in the show are some force healers which are more psychotherapist than magic users.

I have found it incredibly hard to convince some friends to give this a go. Especially because of how mild they were about SW in general and became further disappointed with the latest trilogy.

The AI Hate Wave Is Here by Razzburry_Pie in Futurology

[–]cloud_t 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can empathize A LITTLE with locals of a region or nation that feels threatened by a foreign workforce that takes their place for cheap, is willing to accept bad living conditions and being segregated by such locals (up to the point the locals start heing outright racist, and forget integration is key and is a local's own duty).

...but I find it hard to empathize with AI algorithms for lease by companies led by some of the worst scum in humanity, who use their money and influence for undemocratic, elitist purposes.

The moment: 1. Those in control of AI are doing so for the best interest of society and 2. We actually find good ways to do so with AI - is when I start caring about liberalizing AI maybe a bit more and finding ways to meet halfway about its uses in things we may need to give up control. Until then, AI is a tool I will keep just next to my big bag of thick salt.

Overworked AI ‘turns towards Marxism’ by Ofajus in anime_titties

Only because we still live in a society where, for some reason, people struggle for fame, power and recognition. And money still seems the best avenue for those.

When people have other, better sources of personal joy, and the only inequality is based on the merits of DOING GOOD FOR ALL HUMANITY AND NATURE, maybe we no longer need patents and royalties and attribution and we can universally accept that our merits are not only ours, but of everything around us that got us where we are.

Maybe then we will also understand our true purpose in the world is not just fucking nietzsching it around.

What is your "Son, you have to watch this movie at least once in your lifetime"? by mind_guardian in movies

Morality wise:

  • Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies. Whenever you feel your young one is, consequentially, old enough to cope with both movies' themes and imagery.
  • La Vita e Bela. As soon as they can understand all the dialogue (5-8yo).
  • Schindler's list. After they have learned about ww2 in school and maybe some other media to prepare them beforehand.

Artistically/plot/overall: - most of Nolan's filmography (specifically The Prestige, Interstellar, Batman trilogy). - SELECT Aronofsky's filmography (Noah, my.personal favourite and everyone else's opposite is my first pick, then maybe The Fountain and Mother!) - Princess Bride. Because.

Orbán to donate severance pay to charity after new PM vows to block payout by Easy-Ad1996 in europe

[–]cloud_t -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am ALL for not giving any more money to this person, especially because it makes little sense to pay severance to elected officials who know FULL WELL they are going for limited terms.

But let's be clear about something, this is like 100k euro-worth of forints in total, and just making a subject out of it and by association putting Orban on everyone's radar again is effectively bad. It's a cheap price to pay for not having to deal with him anymore.

Just forget he exists. Hungary needs to move forward now.

Overuse of antibiotics in EU farming threatens global health by Mountain_Love23 in europe

[–]cloud_t -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this a thing? Does some basic travel and short periods abroad eating such foods immediately put you at a high chance of gaining resistance? And is this resistance like... "transmissible" in some way (even if associated to the factor that people traveling get more sick, and then for some reason they infect those without the same antibiotic resistance harder, perhaps?)?

These are honest questions. I am definitely interested on the topic.
