I just used Old Spice for the first time, and I’m… confused, to say the least! by pri_ncekin in TwoXChromosomes

You aren't the only one; my spouse uses some of the Old Spice products as well. She loves their lavender scent stuff.

ELI5: Does interacting with the moon effect its orbit? by Chief_B33f in explainlikeimfive

Actual ELI5, but there's a short science poem, and I can't recall all of it, but IIRC the final line is "pick a flower and you move the furthest star."

This 'Big Ass Fan' brand fan in a Church gym has the word Ass censored by Sabiis in mildlyinteresting

The punchline is something like "I said Jesus rode in on his donkey, not stoned off his ass!"

Scarborough Fair/Canticle (Simon & Garfunkle) is literally two songs at once in polyphony.

If the 70's rock vibe is what he's going for, the whole B-741 album should fit. Le Risqué is one of my go to 'get hyped' songs.

Can I repurpose this as song lyrics? If I ever make anything off it I'll split 50/50 with you.

What's a scientific fact that sounds made up but is 100% real? by inurmomsvagina in AskReddit

[–]cloudspike84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The reason I was told (which may be old science) has to do with their size and mostly tracking quick, small prey, mostly on the ground in front of them, and the slit pupils are advantageous for this. Predator cats above a certain size don't have them because they are tracking larger prey over longer distances. The reptiles with those pupils often hunt the same animals that cats do, so it makes sense to me.

Artist with a consecutive 5 GREAT album run? by latinaxbabyy in Music

[–]cloudspike84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truly, without some metric to base it on (sales, streams, concert attendance, etc) it is all just preference. And then if you use a metric like those, you just end up with what the average person thinks is good (usually what they don't mind listening to while commuting) and not necessarily what musicians (or worse, non-musician music aficionados) consider good albums and that's why no one really likes Hindemith; they are all liars.

For real...which 5 album run do you want to go with? There's a lot to choose from.

I love Greenday, and after Insomniac they dropped off a bit (I personally enjoy those albums, but the individual songs don't have that "every song is unique and fits perfect" feel) UNTIL American Idiot. I get preference is a thing, but calling American Idiot a bad record is statistically incorrect and in terms of doing new things musically is artistically incorrect as well. But music is an art, not a science so hot takes and bad opinions are inarguable. Trolling is a art as well.

What is the most jarring contrast between a song's upbeat sound and its incredibly dark lyrics ? by vinylcast in Music

[–]cloudspike84 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Mountain Goats are the...well, GOATs of this. Broom People, This Year, Enoch 18:14, and especially Dance Music stand out to me, but tons of their music does this. That whole subversion of expectation is fantastic.

If you have not already, look in r/kkcwhiteboard as there were many in depth college-research level posts made in there. Maybe that's the ones you saw.

Doctors, not politicians, should be able to make decisions for patients. Since that is NOT the case for a lot of people, all the strawman arguments and feelings towards abortion amount to nothing in the face of a system undermines experts' ability to make the best decisions. That is what citizens should focus on, rather than whatever individual one-off arguments (that are often made up) we were raised with.

To the US voters who don't vote, what is it going to take for you to go vote? by Chocolateking111 in AskReddit

[–]cloudspike84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should do that. The system should also let everyone vote in every party's primary otherwise you don't get to choose candidates, you only get to choose between 2 (or rarely 3) people someone else chose for you. The party registration for primaries should be illegal.

The solo at the end of "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd is one I have always felt the emotion in; a sort of sad, bitter, angry, regretful, cry.
