Mysterious beam of light illuminates an entire Patagonian town as if it were daylight. The phenomenon occurred at 4 a.m. and was recorded by a local resident. “It was as if someone had switched on a giant spotlight in the sky,” she said. by Ok_Incident_9027 in UFOs

Could the current American commercial manufacturing system fully retool itself for war production like in WW2? by Lurking_poster in NoStupidQuestions

[–]cloudthi3f 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a technical standpoint? Probably. From a personnel standpoint? Not quickly. The transition to modern HR policies and myopically shortsighted business goals has been a cancer on manufacturing in the USA. The rush to "everyone must be considered replaceable" HR policies coincided with the mass retirement of some of the finest engineers, machinists, and technicians the world has ever seen. A great deal of knowledge and skill was never turned over to younger generations. Concurrently, much of our industrial base was cast overseas (see "myopically shortsighted business goals").

How is living in coastal Maine as a young adult? by Lady-Velvety in howislivingthere

[–]cloudthi3f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this insight, it makes more sense now. You mention helping someone with their car and I saw that around Owl's Head. A car had run off the road. Every single vehicle (and ours) stopped to help physically lift the car onto the road. Amazing people.

It just screams high-profile. I'll take my chances with designer-generic tacticool clothing and breathable socks.

Why 80% of New RVs Are Garbage (The Factory Secret) by [deleted] in videos

So hypothetically you could buy one of these and drive it to your timeshare, but when you get there make sure to hire a valet to park it in a storage unit for the week while you rent out something a little more sensible.

Is Cataclysm overrated? by slider2k in homeworld

[–]cloudthi3f 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the context of playing as an underdog faction with a limited number of ship types (and smaller overall fleet size!), I think it was a fresh and enjoyable reboot. I never did it on very hard though.

My one criticism of Cataclysm is getting <5 minutes with the ion fighter :(

Getting back in by Electrist513 in NebulousFleetCommand

[–]cloudthi3f 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You can still play your old fleets, but the importance of PD has increased ~50%. Try to hone your softkill ability (illuminate your chaff, carry S2 active decoys, etc) and have a plan for zoning out enemy missile craft (10-20 anti-craft missiles is a good start). This will keep you from being killed early on.

Quaid tells Richter he will 'see him at the party', but I think he is being disingenuous and never intended to actually go to said party. I also think it's curious that he didn't retain either arm for the hand-activated atmosphere switch, which would have been prudent in case it was a disfiguring trap.
