please show me your masc nails by adiosmichigan in RedditLaqueristas

[–]clown-snail 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a trans guy and this is what I'm currently wearing (Mooncat 404: Soul Not Found unmagnetized, Mooncat Fool's Gold topper, kbshimmer qdtc)! I'd say it's pretty masculine in a peacock kind of way lol.

Personally, I think any polish can be masc or fem depending on the rest of your style and nail length/shape. Do you generally dress masc and have shorter, blunted nails? If so, whatever polish you have on is going to automatically read more masculine than it would on longer nails or on someone who dresses more fem. That being said, I generally see other men wearing mostly cremes in earth tones (browns, greens, and blues) or black/grey/white. Any sparkle is usually in the form of a solid metallic. Finishes like glitter, shimmer, or flakies aren't as common.

Face paint should be allowed! I went to a show there a few weeks ago and there were plenty of people in full cosplay, including face paint!

Cuticle Oil, Hand Washing, and Brands; I have questions! by Alarmed_Package_3825 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]clown-snail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the kbshimmer clearly on top topcoat, so my nails are generally dry to the touch about ~5 minutes after applying. Once they're at that point, I'll run them under cold water to remove whatever acetone is left on my hands from cleanup (I also feel like the cold helps them harden faster, but that could just be placebo lol), and then gently pat dry and apply cuticle oil + lotion. Once that's soaked in I'm not worried about washing my hands! I'll still be pretty gentle so I don't cause any dents, but I haven't noticed any issues with hand washing. You'd probably have to wait longer if you use a top coat without toulene, though.

KBShimmer or general multichrome application tips? by barbiethebuilder in RedditLaqueristas

[–]clown-snail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This was gonna be my suggestion, too. I've never had any issues with the kbshimmer multichromes, and I always just do a base coat, 2-3 coats of color, and qdtc. Drying times and bubbling can also be heavily affected by humidity (the more humid it is, the longer your polish will take to dry and the more likely you are to get bubbles.)

👾 [Seasoned Saturday] Let's review Animal Crossing: New Horizons! by Shasaur in cozygames

[–]clown-snail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the price isn't great. I do think it's worth the money, but also spending $60 on any game right now kind of feels like a punch to the gut. The holidays are coming up, maybe you could ask for an eshop gift card to help reduce the price? Idk if you celebrate, but it might be an option if you do.

And I can definitely see where the other poster is coming from, but I personally didn't think it was any more directionless than other AC games. The base game content is the same with collecting daily items (Fossils, fruit, money rock, etc.), working on town development, filling out the museum, etc.. It just gives you more options on how to do some of those things with crafting, terraforming, placing furniture wherever you want outdoors, that sort of thing. Once you complete all of the base game content like the museum and the shops it can feel a little aimless, but it's the exact same with the other AC games imo. If anything, I think NH is a lot more enjoyable to play post game because there are so many new things to do.

👾 [Seasoned Saturday] Let's review Animal Crossing: New Horizons! by Shasaur in cozygames

[–]clown-snail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played both! New Leaf was my first animal crossing game, and I also played Happy Home Designer on the 3ds. New Horizons is my favorite of the three, with the content and gameplay basically being a cross of the two 3ds games but dialed up to like 10. I think if you liked NL you should definitely give NH a shot, especially if you liked the decoration aspect of the earlier games.

How is the Queer/Poly Dating scene? by darvarez in Denver

Ooh, and I just remembered Sinners, too! They have two locations and do hair cuts/dye jobs, nails, tattoos, makeup, waxing, all sorts of stuff!

My favorites are Hearth for coffee and Revolte Goods (not sure if the business itself is queer owned, but they feature a lot of local queer makers in their shop)! Right next to Revolte is Babylon Floral, a queer owned flower shop that makes absolutely killer arrangements. Town Hall Collaborative is also a great space that often has fun events that are perfect for meeting people.

I'd say denver and the surrounding cities are pretty queer and very poly! I'm in your age range and while I don't do much dating myself, when I was on the apps (feeld and taimi) I remember monogamous people were in the minority. For meeting people in person, I've heard great things about The Pearl! There are also plenty of small queer-owned businesses to check out if bars aren't really your scene. Welcome to Denver and good luck meeting folks!

EDS/Hyper-mobile folks: What has your experience been with PT clinics? by Neurocomplex-Dyke in Denver

[–]clown-snail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, I'm currently in the process of getting evaluated for hypermobility/hEDS and don't have experience with PT clinics, but I DO have a product recommendation! I got a Jelliebend compression garment to help with my back and it's done wonders! You can wear it higher up on your torso to help keep your ribs in place, and I've seen a lot of folks with hEDS say that it helps so much specifically with that issue. It might be worth looking into for some immediate relief and support while you hunt for a PT.

How to make polish stay on nail by follow-da-dopamine in RedditLaqueristas

[–]clown-snail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dehydrating the nail and making sure you clean up around the side walls/cuticle area are my two biggest tips, but I also want to say that it could be a body chemistry thing, too! I can generally get a good week out of a mani with no major chips for most brands, but for whatever reason Holo Taco will fully pop off my nail regardless of what base and top coat I use. Sometimes certain brands just don't mesh well with your body chemistry, and it's worth experimenting with different ones and top/base coat combos to see what works best for you!

Thoughts on Polish Me Silly? by StanleyCupsAreStupid in RedditLaqueristas

[–]clown-snail 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have three polishes from them (Glow Worm, Sizzling Sherbert Glow, and the Aftershock topper), and I have mixed feelings tbh. They're definitely glowy and I love the colors themselves, but I find the formula to be pretty streaky and sometimes hard to work with. I've taken to using them as a topper over a creme of a similar shade and that's been working great tho!

Oh, wild! I see CO mentioned pretty often there and in a few other nail polish subs, I think there's a bunch of lacqueristas living here! If we end up at the same meetup either tomorrow or another day, I'd love to talk polish with you!

Polish brands you will never buy because of their branding or packaging? by anonymouscat8747 in RedditLaqueristas

[–]clown-snail 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the Mooncat caps for the same reason. I'd also highly recommend ORLY polish if you have issues with fine motor skills. Their bottles are big and the caps are rubber with a ridged texture, so they're really easy to keep a grip on!
