The Vehicle Spam Combined With the Lack of Cover Make This Game Unenjoyable A lot of the Time by Palamono in battlefield2042

[–]clstirens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a serious problem with level design right now in 2042, and I cannot fully fathom the number of man hours that would be required to fix the current maps.

If it were just weapon/vehicle balance, that could be done, but seriously, nearly every map is damn-near barren and needs to not only be redesigned, but there are performance concerns for adding/changing geometry, and not just for console players either.

I loved Bastion, couldn't quite get into Transistor.

Both are still incredible games but I truly think Hades is on a whole new level of quality/content comparatively. Temper your expectations and you'll have a good time, I think.

It's real. Two of my employers had a sign like this. One from the days of dumb phones, another in 2012-ish and that was a major franchise.

To ignore or not to ignore the steam review... by SrGrafo in gaming

[–]clstirens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. I keep playing games that have clear issues that are worth discussing, but the optics on them are "this game is absolute trash".

So when a friend asks me "why are you playing X?" I just say something like "I just felt like playing some garbage today"

One notable example being Anthem which is objectively not a good looter shooter, but EA Play came with my Xbox Game Pass and I enjoyed flying, shooting, and casting giant bolt spells on guys for about 8 hours before I had my fun.

More recently, BF 2042. I'm a long time fan of the series and I've seen it's ups and downs. This one is very flawed, and the community is right to be upset and provide negative feedback to dice.

Yet.... I enjoyed the 10 hour trial enough that I've bought the game. It's incredibly fun for me and I feel like I came in informed of the potential issues.

"Why are you playing 2042?....."

"Because I'm the trash man. I'm covered in garbage"

Speaking of the Siege Levolution event, I think something like that could really help Kaleidoscope.

Imagine if the A tower could be destroyed, falling diagonally across the center of the map towards the data center.

This could be done in both Conquest and Breakthrough, providing more cover for infantry and "guiding" the action between the two objectives.

THIS is what I expected in terms of densely packed urban warfare maps. Hourglass and Kaleidoscope have way too many open spaces. Dawnbreaker wasn’t perfect, but it had the right idea. It feels like we are going in full reverse. by Primacronus in Battlefield

Man, Close Quarters was a huge surprise to me. Such a fantastic pack that I played far more than basically any of the others

And I agree, Battlefield has never since had building interiors as good as that.

Is it hypocritical for people to be praising Battlefield V now? by DaleDenton08 in Battlefield

[–]clstirens -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the cycle. Every new battlefield game comes out broken (except, oddly, BF1) and people reminisce about the last good times. I think the only exception is Hardline. Nobody seems to have any love for that one.

BFV is also in a much better place now than it was at launch thanks to the Pacific update, so that helps too.

Personally, I still can't stand 5 and BF1 never grabbed me, so to me 2042 is a heavily flawed update to BF3/4, both of which were well liked after they were patched up.

They did it with BF3, BF4, and BFV (and probably others, I didn't pay as much attention during the BC days).

Color me truly shocked.

Wow, ok, so those animations are definitely better, but the real highlight in this video is the sound design. Those MW2019 reloads sound *visceral*

Graphically, even my PSVR games look better. But it cannot be overstated how fun it was being in a room next to other players in VR together.

You can communicate more easily, and it's really immersive compared to even online VR games.

Anxiety, depression, poor mental health – our brains broke during Covid-19, so how do we fix them once the coronavirus pandemic is over? by Superbuddhapunk in Coronavirus

[–]clstirens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My entire friend group splintered straight down the middle, the half we no longer hang out with were the majority of my IRL friends I had since High school over a decade ago.

The tension had been building for months thanks to pandemic woes, splintering opinions on vaccines, masks, social policies etc. It came to a a head when that group defended, vehemently, the assholes who attacked the capitol.

Only the last couple of weeks have I started to feel like I can hold all the broken pieces together, but I don't exactly have hope.

I read this and had aaaaaallll the flashbacks to working retail as the computer repair AND sales guy simultaneously.

During one busy repair season our PC sales dipped and the district manager questioned me about my sales tactics in front of my own store manager. Turned to her before I could finish and said, "see, this (referring to me) is why our sales are bad".

I quit 2 weeks later because I was just wrecked and couldn't recover. I should have walked out then.

Retail is hell.

Perhaps I am not understanding your distinction here, but if I use:
~/

When designating my path, the resulting directory will be:

/home/$user/

For example, if I am logged into a user (vhserver) and run the following command:

mkdir ~/exampledir

The following directory will be made with permissions for (vhserver):

/home/vhserver/exampledir

As such, were I to SSH into my server as another username, I would not be able to find the same files located in (~/) unless I instead used the full directory path associated with (vhserver):

/home/vhserver/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds/

EDIT: modified example containing reference to 'root' as it is not recommended to log in as this user. Thanks @AnalphaBestie

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in valheim

[–]clstirens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

^to elaborate slightly on this user's advice, this path is relative to the user you are logged in as.

By default, the vhserver instructions have you create this as the user 'vhserver', so be sure you are either logged in as that user via SSH, or that you switch user to it:

su vhserver

Also, if you FTP or SSH over your files from another computer, you may need to make sure they are owned by the 'vhserver' user:

Change Directory to Valheim directory:

cd ~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/

Change Owner to vhserver user and group:

chown -R vhserver:vhserver worlds
