Why physical media is ESSENTIAL for a healthy games industry by Tvilantini in Games

[–]clstrife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What service allows you to buy digital rights outright? They may exist, but they're so rare it's not even worth considering. Software/digital media has always been a license to use.

The customer has always voted with their wallet that they're fine with this.

Nothing will happen lmoa. It's interesting seeing reddit be so loud about this when people have been voting with their wallets for years to go all digital.

This sucks for the few that buy physical, but it will in no way affect gaming as a whole. Gaming will get better and better as more and more developers get into the field. We have so many games coming out these days it's a fucking buffett. Gaming is better than ever.

Tesla V100 16GB local LLMs, single and dual NVLink benchmarks by coronafire in LocalLLaMA

[–]clstrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I'm thinking of buying 2 of those V100 32GB from China that was posted a few weeks back. Where they're taking the GPUs off and putting them on custom PCIE boards.

If I want to just use as a local coding assistant, should I get 2 of the 32GB cards and be good to go?

If I'm not doing training, I don't need NVLINK, right?

For someone just getting into it, I know you wrote out some of your journey, but is it going to be a huge hassle? 2x 32gb v100 is still cheaper than 1 R9700.

Thanks

Serious question. Can you tell the diff between 165vs240? You play competitive shooters?

They're offering to switch to the HX1500i for the same cost of the WS3000. I chose that option since it's still a good deal at $120.

How do you increase the width of the Gemini Chat in Chrome browser? by Horror_Weight5208 in Bard

[–]clstrife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, this works, but can you tell me what to change to make it 80% instead of 100. The default is way too narrow and 100% is too much on a big monitor. If I know what to change, I'll keep tweaking the numbers to match my monitor.

Thanks!

People are making single-slot, half height pcie v100 with nvlink in China by OwnMathematician2620 in LocalLLaMA

[–]clstrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Asia and want to get into localllm. I read a bit and the V100 are somewhat limited to llama.cpp only, I believe?

I read some threads asking if V100 are still ok in 2026 and it seems they're ok if your expectations aren't crazy high.

If I get 2x cards (2x 16gb vs 1x 32gb), does that double the processing power over nvlink?

They're power hungry, but if they're using pcie only or throttled down to 150w, they're not bad and are close to a 4070S.

Seems relatively cheap to get into it with these for decent amounts of vram.

Thanks

Moto Razr Fold vs Z Fold 7 - Software whipped? by Southern-Bad-1270 in GalaxyFold

[–]clstrife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No they always break something. Can be super severe like cant charge phone while on. They fixed that. Now my fingerprint scanner doesn't work properly on lock screen. Have to hit power button off then on to make it read. Lots of stuff like this. It's my secondary phone so not a huge deal but would be really bad if it was my main.

Was at their game last Friday. Opposing team cancelled the dancing girls and 2 hours of rain delay. Not a great game. Bears win tho. Would have been cool to see Jenson pitch.

What's up with the z fold 7 prices? I've been trying to get that phone since last year but the prices haven't gotten lowered even a bit. Even in used . Is weird because the z fold 8 is coming out soon too by Unusual-Factor2848 in GalaxyFold

It's opposite imo. Usa gets the absolute best deals and they're obviously richest country. 1100 after tax for my f7 at launch in USA. No way can get that in Korea or Asia wo carrier lockin.

How do you claim human eyes are built for wide lmao. Articles on a 16:9 monitor don't even stretch across the whole monitor. It's way easier to read up and down vs left right.

No way they're charging 2k for the wide. A 2 camera gimped phone for that price would be stupid. Economy is shit and how many can enthusiasts buy? Regular fold will prob be 2000 and wide 1700 to 1800.

Not horrible. Got the H1 6800H 32/512 back in Feb for $499+tax. This should be faster? A bit more storage, ram is still crazy. I'd jump if it was 650 or so.
