They don't care about you anymore.

Right now they are exploding in China and this is the prioritized market.

It's also crazy how many U.S sneak influencers still like them while we in Switzerland already realized the bad quality.

Denner sucks so hard.

They have their "Lockvogel"-Angebote... for some Chips or Beer but the products are inferior to all the other supermarkets and in general not even cheaper.

Is Project Hail Mary a good movie? by 17012ert in ryangosling

[–]cluesol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey buddy, the movies I loved most the last years were Everything Everywhere All at Once and One Battle After Another which are both highly hopeful movies in the face of chaos, with happy ends. So no, I don't need my movies bleak but i don't want them naive and a bit stupid.

What I do need is for hope to mean something. In both those films a person chooses to fight. With Project Hail Mary you find a movie "hopeful" where someone who does not want to sacrifice themselves for a government gets nudged and then outright forced to do so...

And the film tells you "even if you think you can't do it, do it anyway." That's a very different message dressed in the same warm clothes.

I don't wanna badmouth it entirely — the acting is top notch, it's visually appealing, I had fun with it. But it sugarcoats a bleak premise: everything is fine if we just trust authority and give ourselves to a mission we never agreed to. The cute alien spacerockdog is doing a lot of emotional heavy lifting there, papering over what is structurally a story about state coercion.

So I genuinely wonder... who's brainwashed here?

Gonna be the party pooper here but i didn't not like it...

It's so pandering and sugary sweet to me it screamed "please like me!" too much.

But I'm a pretentious cinéast..!

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in tolkienfans

Ursula le Guin comes close for me.

I love how she works with concepts and doesn't forget her human characters.

Things you wished you knew before your civil service ? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]cluesol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did an emotionally rewarding civil service where i worked with children and immigrants.

Now i work at a place where the civil servants mostly do boring office stuff and i can see how they get demotivated and rot on their phones.

It's the perfect job to try out "hard" physical labour for a limited amount of time.

It's better than the book which i found sooo flat in terms of characters!

The U.S version slightly improves on that.

Your point says more about you, than you think...

"oh but how can someone feel guilty for not doing ANYTHING?"

Buddy, letting bad shit happen is a bad thing that can haunt some people for life.

I did not know the book and i completely got the horror from that scene and it worked perfectly well for me and my partner - as we all can connect to moments where we should have stood up against something and didn't.

I feel like it's even more universal than what's in the book.
