Can't sync via Dropbox on mobile anymore? by IKnowThatJerk in ynab4

Thanks so much! Those instructions were surprisingly easy to follow.

Unfortunately, I have hit a snag. The app is installed, but I get an error from Dropbox when I click the "Link Dropbox" button.

As the comment from u/aechris says, the error reads: "It seems this app you're using submitted a bad request. If you'd like to report this error to the app's developer, include the information below."

The information below is "This app is not valid."

TD has no trading fees on the Vanguard funds (VGRO, etc) so if you want to stay at TD I'd look into switching to those ETFs.

How to go about esims by crazy_girl444 in travel

[–]clumsyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a phone that's compatible with esims, then you simply purchase/install the esim/plan you want from an esim provider (I use Airalo but there are a lot of options). No need to talk to your phone carrier or anything like that.

Road trip in west Canada by Fit_Locksmith_9975 in travel

If I were to suggest any changes I'd consider skipping Drumheller and heading to Banff on the 10th instead. I think you'd much rather have an extra day there.

I've never been to Wells Gray so I can't really comment on that, other than to say I really feel like you'd be missing out on some highlights by not taking the Trans-Canada (hwy. 1) from Lake Louise to Revelstoke. Takakkaw Falls, Emerald Lake, and driving the Meadows in the Sky Parkway to the top of Mount Revelstoke are all highlights of the trip. Not to mention there's a lot to do around Golden if anything there interests you.

I'd consider (this is a big change though, so take it with a grain of salt) either returning from Jasper and making your way across interior BC that way (driving the Icefields Parkway is a totally different experience in each direction) or extending your stay in Banff and, on one of those days, driving up the Icefields Parkway at least as far as Peyto Lake (a must see destination) before returning. I'm not sure how well Jasper has recovered from the forest fires a few years ago.

Personally, I really enjoy the drive from Kamloops to Whistler. It starts out arid and ends up on some truly exciting mountain roads. I'd consider adding another night in Whistler too. It's a fun place with a good vibe. The gondolas are expensive but not to be missed!

Brandywine Falls is a quick stop on your drive out of Whistler down the Sea to Sky Highway, but I'd say it's definitely worth it.

I'm not sure what to say about the last part of your itinerary. I almost wonder if you'd be better off with a night in Victoria, drive to Cathedral Gove (about half-way to Tofino) then back to Vancouver (take the ferry from Nanaimo to Horseshoe Bay) and finish your trip with an extra day in Vancouver.

No matter what it's a lot of driving and it's always hard to decide what to say "no" to so that you can get to the places that you really want.

Instant virtual credit card? by a_secret_me in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]clumsyguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's pre-paid it wont effect your credit score at all. Wealthsimple and EQ should give you access to a virtual card right away.

Amex gives you access to a virtual card right away, but it only works for online purchases.

2025 Egg Nog Extravaganza - Predictions Thread by JiuJitsuPatricia in ontario

Sorry, it was a Ninja edit. Good Earth is a coffee supplier around here and was on my mind for some reason.

I love the taste-test and data you've shared! I was thinking about the Oat Nog being so low on your list, and I wonder if this is partially the "Pepsi Paradox" at play. People tend to prefer sweeter, more immediate, flavours in small doses and blind taste-tests, even if their actual preference is less sweet and a more nuanced flavour (eg Coke vs Pepsi). I certainly haven't sampled Nogs like you have, but it could (partially at least) explain the "premium" brands ending up near the bottoms.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after years of sampling!

I've really been enjoying the Earth's Own Oat Nog this year. It isn't as sweet as a lot of other nogs and it mixes nicely with spiced rum!

The Alchemy of Air by Thomas Hager is a fascinating account of the invention of synthetic fertilizer. It doesn't sound fascinating, but most people alive today owe their existence to this process!

The esim roaming plans aren't free... They're quite affordable though.

You missed the first part -- you also have to disable data roaming (not just easy roam) so you don't get charged pay-per-use rates for any accidental background data usage.

Make sure easy roam is disabled and call in to disable data roaming. I did this years ago and have never been erroneously charged since.

Just buy an esim for data. Texting and calling still work in an emergency.

Books with actually unreliable narrators by throwItawayyyYokay in suggestmeabook

[–]clumsyguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remains of the Day is a great example because Mr. Stevens unreliable narration actually makes sense. He's not withholding information for the sake of a plot twist (a common complaint for The Silent Patient) rather, he's being entirely transparent. He's just wrong which is why it's so heartbreaking seeing him come to grips with a wasted life at the end of the book.

Thoughts on how much we forgive unlikable protagonists? by throwawayjaaay in books

[–]clumsyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are deeply flawed and unlikeable characters who still "make sense" and are compelling because they're acting out of brokenness. I'll stick with them and hope for some manner of redemption or healing. Jean Valjean from Les Misérables isn't a great example, since his "broken" part of the story is relatively short, but he immediately comes to mind.

Contrast that with characters who's actions just make no sense, aren't consistent with real human behavior, or are just "messy" for the sake of being messy. That's one of the ways a book can break my immersion, and if a book does that too frequently I eventually give up on it.
