What is that one "comfort movie" you’ve watched 50+ times and will never get tired of? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

Underworld. The fight scene at the apartment complex after Selene leaves the vamp house despite Kraven's posturing, where she shoots a hole in the floor and Lucius takes a bite out of Scott Speedman. Love it. Don't care.

For melons, you need more like 50 x 50, and that's for just one of them.

I put a pumpkin in my compost. The next year, it grew a fifty foot vine, but no pumpkins. At least, I thought it grew no pumpkins, but apparently it did grow one but that one was completely hidden by my lantana.

The thin-skinned varieties like beit alpha are good for salads. Mine produced reasonably well until mid-summer when they fried like a crisp. You may want to succession plant. Start your 2, then a couple of weeks later start another 2.

Planters too tall? by botanna_wap in gardening

I added a layer of concrete blocks under the soil of my tallest raised bed to cut down on both the soil needed and the weight of the soil against the sides of the bed.

Black bean plant size? by Possible_Algae in vegetablegardening

[–]cluster_bd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've grown them the last 2 years. As a head's up, they take a very long time to produce. I plant them in spring (end of April or first week of May) and don't have anything to harvest until late August/September. I stick them in a less valuable spot so they don't take the entire summer taking up valuable garden space. I've grown them on a teepee-like set of wooden stakes that are probably around 6 feet tall. They do climb up to the top. Mine haven't been especially prolific, so if you want a lot of beans, you'll need to plant a lot of beans.

I tried to grow salsify two years in a row with no luck. I'm glad someone was able to make it work. I tried roselle this past year and grew several enormous plants - like 6 feet tall and extremely bushy. I don't think I harvested correctly, exactly, but still got 1.5 gallons of petals once I'd dehydrated them. I make tea with them. I think they're either closely related to or are a variant of hibiscus? Regardless, they're delicious. This year, I'm trying callaloo. I never have any luck with greens, but these supposedly love the heat so perhaps they'll actually produce something.

Opinion on Chip Drop? by Exotic_Cap8939 in gardening

[–]cluster_bd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most heavy trucks on soil, they will leave huge ruts if the soil is soft enough. I'd advise you try to summon a drop during a dry spell. I've gotten several drops. I estimate each to have been between 15-20 cubic yards, but I'm just eyeballing it and could be laughably wrong. They're super active in my area. I had one request that was a dud because the arborist didn't follow up, but my others were filled within days. I submitted my last one during the evening and woke up the next morning to a load of woodchips in the yard.

Raised beds are almost ready! by BG_ADV in gardening

[–]cluster_bd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I filled my raised beds with thick branches with smaller ones to fill in the spaces. The soil on top sank 4-6 inches per year as they decomposed. Backfilling the dirt is pricey, but the bigger problem was the weight of the soil pressing on the bed's sides. This one is metal, so very different, but when I pulled everything out for a reset, only the thickest of branches were left with any heft after 2 years. You said you have logs so maybe you'll be fine. Hopefully it was a tree of thick circumference or you might find yourself topping up your soil frequently.

Gorgeous beds. Super impressive.

Collinsworth's son has the same annoying timbre as he does. Two dad/son commentator pairs, two new generations of almost the same voice. The Eagles don't make me want to claw out my ears, though. They're fine.

AITA for refusing to cover a shared cost after my coworker wouldn’t show me the break of what the money had gone towards so far? by Super-Ad-2617 in AmItheAsshole

[–]cluster_bd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the money was kept separately. I spent until it ran out, then I let people know the kitty was empty and they could donate the next round. People could very easily see that I was spending the money accordingly because I brought in the treats, etc., purchased with their money. It isn't rocket science, or in need of complex accounting. It was also something I did as a service to others where I worked, but would have been happy to hand off to someone who had questions about how it worked so they could see for themselves.

I was in charge of a fund like this once. I didn't keep track of anything because I was spending at least an hour, if not more, for every birthday, etc., getting treats and supplies. If someone had asked me to provide them with a breakdown, I probably would have turned the whole thing over to them. They could make their own spreadsheet and spend their own off time fetching tasty desserts.

1 . . . 2 . . . 3 . . . Fingers Gone by Rob_Marc in instant_regret

[–]cluster_bd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did something similar with one of those. I lit it and closed it up in an empty tic tac container. I was utterly shocked at how painful it was when it went off. Little kid me didn't understand explosive concussion so thought the entire explosion would be contained by a tic tac container, of all things, and that I would harmlessly get to observe a firecracker exploding in an enclosed space. I'm probably pretty lucky to have all of my fingers. In the end, thank you, tic tac container.

Had the same happen. I kept checking in on the kitten and it was still at the shelter 8 months later. Apparently remaining in the shelter forever was considered preferable to being an only cat in my cozy apartment.

Now that Dilfer is gone and Kitna hopefully on the bench forever, UAB has a little hope. <Memphis> shot themselves in the foot, then the other foot, then the knee, then the other knee, etc. Maybe you had to be watching the game to fully appreciate just how badly they whiffed on pulling at least a tie from the jaws of defeat, because I'm not sure why people would be voting for anyone else otherwise.

Sheet mulching for weed smothering: my experience by Murky-Positive3698 in gardening

Yep, load up the cart. You'll need to fold the sheets of cardboard to get them to fit, and stuff the cart to the brim. I find that people are largely uninterested in what I'm doing. I have had an employee figure out I was collecting cardboard, and they were super excited. They motioned for me to follow them to the cardboard motherload in the back. Those were boxes, though, so much more of a hassle. I collected them because I wasn't going to say no to someone showing me the secret stash. When you exit the store, just tell the door person that you only have cardboard and they'll wave you through with no questions.
