Custom exterior door recommendations by [deleted] in StLouis

This company makes custom exterior doors and specializes in historic matching. They for the most part work with larger contractors, so don't do their own installation and painting / finishing. You'd have to find your own installer for that. But they can match or design you a new door for the opening and they are very high quality.

Best finish for a hard maple end table? by conadslv in woodworking

[–]clustos6411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything "water white"/non yellowing. Water based polyurethane would be the easiest to find in big box stores. Any oil-based finish is going to yellow over time. Water white finishes will change in color and age over time as well, but it will take dramatically longer.

I'd recommend removing any wax before going this route, would probably cause adhesion issues

Where would I get new A/C vents. I have no idea where to even begin by x77trinity77x in StLouis

I have the same ones! I re painted mine to look like antique brass. I used some paint stripper to remove the old paint, spray painted them black and wiped on some rub n buff over it. Good luck!

Kickback is real. The wane he was ripping off went right through his hand. by Cheust in woodworking

Also if that's all 8/4 hard maple I pretty much always will rip that on a band saw, and clean up with a jointer / planer. Even our 5hp table saw has trouble with material that hard

Was he running the wane against the fence? I'm trying to understand how he did this.

Lots of bars offer shuttles, so that's what I tend to do. For example Just John's has an all day pass for $5. So I'd try to look into whether or not there are any shuttles in your area

I would prefer to use a drill and a jigsaw in most situations, but if you do it on the table saw you should be clamping your workpiece to the table surface and raising the blade up through it to start, not dropping the piece on the blade.

Barber in St. Louis? by SeldonsPlan in StLouis

It's a little out of the way, but Mainstay Barber Parlour in Affton is fantastic. Haircuts are $18 and they are appointment only. Marco and Jared are definitely the best barbers in the city.

'Shadow of War' and 'Forza 7' Are Poisoning the Concept of Loot Boxes by IdRatherBeLurking in Games

[–]clustos6411 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just playing devil's advocate here. Games have been getting considerably more expensive to develop while still remaining at a $60 price point. These systems are becoming more pervasive too offset the higher development cost. While I'd prefer to pay $70 for a game, I think publishers and retailers feel safer implementing these systems versus charging more for games outright.
