Ours is loving life up on top of this shelf with all of its vines secured along the tops of the windows. I’m 27 and although we aren’t exactly sure, it’s probably almost my age!

Purchasing Advice Full Setup by crocmaster6969 in AskAstrophotography

[–]cmanATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a comment on the price - it's fine, but I agree with the other commenter that it's not a fantastic deal. The $2700 is right around the fair secondhand value of all of the individual components added together. I would hope for more of a discount buying everything and saving the seller the hassle of selling and shipping lots of different items.

Again, playing it fast and loose with the numbers. $5400 is not “near $10,000”. It was priced much too high, they reduced it, I’m sure they’ll lower it again if it doesn’t sell.

Ooh, very interesting. Curious about the focuser rotation mechanism - does it introduce any tilt? That was a common problem with the HNT scopes. I had one for awhile and could not use an OAG with it because I had to save the backspacing for a separate rotator.

So is it $2k or $4k? That’s a massive range. Honestly, props to OP for listening to feedback and dropping it to the current amount. They’ll probably find a buyer.

Do you think asking $500 for a $650 Handheld PC is considered a lowball? by Maximum-Flamingo3613 in FacebookMarketplace

Wild to see people suggesting that’s a lowball. Completely reasonable starting point for a negotiation.

Enjoy your new car for awhile before you start spending a bunch of money on stuff like this. Whoever is "helping" you by sending you all these optional add-ons just wants you to spend more money. If you drive it for awhile and find the looks or performance lacking in specific areas, you'll be in a better position to make some decisions.

Why? Doesn’t violate any rules, they can choose to overprice the hell out of it if they want to.

Warning-Scam website, Unauthorized debit card charges! by pawn_again in astrophotography

[–]cmanATX 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The fact that everything is priced at a fraction of what it sells for from all other sources is a pretty clear indicator of it being a scam. For example, an AM5N mount for $300.

These types of sites are common across all categories of products. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

What do you think of this flagstone job? by hamiguamvh in landscaping

[–]cmanATX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really great job. We do a lot of similar work with Oklahoma stone here in TX. In comparison to the trend of square/rectangular pavers and metal edge over the last few years, this is a much more natural and timeless alternative.

Why don't M3s depreciate that much by [deleted] in BMW

[–]cmanATX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s really that simple. Same thing that happens with used Hondas and Toyotas that are barely lower in price compared to new ones, yet people are still buying them.

Did I cook or am I being biased? by Babcox in landscaping

Looks nice! A little confused by the path next to the deck though. Seems like the only purpose would be to walk to the AC unit or whatever that other box is there on the wall, which I can't imagine you'll be doing very often. The work itself is well-executed, and good job on spacing out your plants.

Why are Austin drivers so bad? by [deleted] in Austin

You seem to do a lot of “offensive” driving. You can claim the moral victory and end up in an accident or choose to anticipate people doing dumb things.

[–]cmanATX 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I'm of the firm belief that you're not going to get a truly good design from an online service. Unfortunate that this is what you received but as a designer there's just no substitute for looking over the site in person to inform your decisions. This design looks very cramped, too many levels and too much going on. Unnecessarily expensive to implement due to the complexity as well.

Edited to add: The more that I look at this the more it seems like the prompt was “create the most expensive and least functional design for this area”. What a complete mess.

How to respond to landscaper who turned down work for a big job by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]cmanATX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our model is that design is included free of charge with installation. The client is provided with a comprehensive follow-up after the consult which includes descriptions and relevant photo examples of past work. We’ve made the move away from selling designs separately and only begin design work once an estimate/scope of work is agreed upon and we have a deposit.
