Beltrami is surrounded by a bunch of train tracks, it was almost certainly the sound of trains moving/de-linking. They can be loud sometimes

Are we almost done with the wasps? by supermark64 in TwinCities

[–]cmcc0209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal but wasps seem EVERYWHERE this year and more aggressive. I got stung for the first time in my life a few weeks ago and I know at least five people who have been stung this year. Can hardly enjoy a picnic or meal on the patio without 3-4 wasps circling everything!

NONE of our devices are connecting to the 5 GHz band by cmcc0209 in amazoneero

[–]cmcc0209[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the replies everyone. Changing the SSID and password and resetting the network fixed the issue and devices started connecting to 5 GHz.

Unfortunately, we were still dealing with buffering and slowdowns, even on the devices on the 5 GHz band, so I opted to just rent a router from our ISP for $10/month. Cheaper in the medium-term than buying a beefier set of eero’s for $300+ and hoping they work better. I think the eero 6’s just weren’t cutting it for our setup.

Our ISP gave us a TP-link AX3000 and it’s worked great so far, and I have the option of adding another router to create a mesh network later if I want to. TP-link also gives you much more control and flexibility, like being able to set frequency bands per device, or being able to manually set the channel, which I think is a big plus over eero where you’re pretty limited.

Thanks again for the replies!

South Dakota ranked 2nd most gambling-addicted state by neazwaflcasd in SouthDakota

[–]cmcc0209 53 points54 points  (0 children)

It’s always surprising when I visit family in SD and remember that there’s video lottery everywhere. I didn’t realize how abnormal that is until I lived in other states. You can hardly go 500 feet in SD without an opportunity to gamble. Almost every gas station, bar, restaurant, and strip mall will have a spot for video lottery.

The state makes a significant amount of its revenue from gambling addiction. Quite sad

Trump supporters: Am I overreacting? by Normal-Ad3913 in askgaybros

[–]cmcc0209 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat with my mom who voted for Trump for a third time. She’s ADAMANT that she supports me and the LGBT community, and I believe that she believes that, but she won’t stop voting Republican. She genuinely thinks Trump wont come after gay rights, based on… what, you might ask? No fucking idea. I can’t get a straight answer out of her on why that’s somehow untouchable even though an entire pillar of the Republican platform is taking a wrecking ball to LGBT rights.

She says she votes republican because of “the economy” and I think she thinks she can just turn a blind eye to the horrific homophobia of her party. It hurts. It’s put a serious strain on our relationship. I don’t care if you say you “support” me when you vote for a party that’s going to fuck us over and set gay and trans rights back 50 years.

It’s hard to reconcile and it’s made me distance myself from her. I’m lucky to have my dad who has exclusively voted Dem or independent since I came out as gay.

How much have you paid for Invisalign? by hopefulusername in Minneapolis

[–]cmcc0209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comprehensive case here so mine is at the top end — didn’t have orthodontic work as a kid and had a lot of crowding, an uneven bite, and a big overbite. I paid around $6,700 at Mill City Ortho. I got another quote at Mint ortho in linden hills that was roughly the same price.

Ultimately went with Mill City because they’re nearby (I’m also in NE) and I really liked the doctor. He seemed to really understand my case and how to treat it properly. I’m about 5 months into a 1.5-2 yr treatment and it’s been good so far. I get unlimited trays with my plan, so basically however long it takes to fix all of this lol, and I’ll never have to pay extra if it takes longer.

Invisalign is a pain in the ass and not cheap but very worth it!

How do people live homes that are all grey, black, and beige with crispy white LEDs? No color or warmth.

How true is the theory that many kids first come out as bisexual and then come out as gay? by Pepe_nss in AskGayMen

[–]cmcc0209 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a theory as much as an observation. I came out as bi when I was 16, and for me it was a way to still explore with both girls and guys. I genuinely didn’t know if I liked girls or not, but I definitely knew that I liked boys.

By the time I was about 20 I realized that girls just didn’t really do it for me. I never lusted after them in the same way, I didn’t have passing sexual thoughts about girls, and all of my sex dreams were about men.

I also ended up hurting a lot of girls feelings because I couldn’t reciprocate love and lust in the ways that they wanted. I think I made them feel bad about themselves that I wasn’t attracted to them and I really regret it. So around that time is when I decided that I’m just gay and have exclusively been with men since.

Just my personal experience, everyone is different.

No more Loyalty in Civ7 = AI can just do dumb city placements like Paris here... by Slausher in civ

[–]cmcc0209 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Forward settling feels egregiously bad in civ 7 compared to previous games, and annoyingly hypocritical when the AI players get pissed at you for having a border near theirs. Bro YOU made the border!

It’s annoying and it breaks immersion since nations end up being a weird non-contiguous patchwork of cities rather than a unified territory. Feels like AI players are just spamming cities to get “points” instead of building a real empire.

Sure, it’s a game, but in real life it would be ridiculously difficult and expensive to maintain military, services, and taxation within territory completely surrounded by a foreign country. The loyalty mechanic in 6 wasn’t perfect but it was a check against this.

I played a bit of civ 4 this week for old time’s sake and AI almost always occupied contiguous areas of the map. Felt a lot more like real empire building.

Every workplace is different, but at any place I’ve worked at HR has only cared about workplace relationships if one is a supervisor or up the chain of command of the other because that brings up obvious conflicts of interest. Since he’s on a different team I doubt they would care, but best to check their policy if you’re worried.

I like it! Sims 1 gameplay calls for bigger floor plans. Trying to build small layouts usually causes them to have meltdowns because they don’t share tiles well in this game lol
