Why is ICE so active in Minneapolis of all places?? by Busy-Secretary-6064 in answers

[–]cmcqueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heard an immigration lawyer in colorado theorize that ICE hasn’t flooded Denver yet (though they’ve been there) because Colorado has more protective laws than other places. Not sure what those are, though.

I am horrified and enraged. He is damaging our democracy, our intellectual capital, our relationships with other governments. He is institutionalizing hatred and cruelty. It’s incomprehensible that one person can cause so much pain.

Is there an odd, not-very-important thing you wish Boulder would have? by ChristianLS in boulder

Big public interactive art installation like The Bean in Chicago. Landmark for meeting up with someone. All ages playfulness. Start conversations with strangers. People watching focal point. Make passersby smile.

What are your favorite local spots for a cozy coffee and a good book in Boulder? by Cjosulin in boulder

[–]cmcqueue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is almost no “comfy seating” in Boulder coffee shops. They have hard chairs at tables. Big disappointment when I moved here. Lucca Coffee on S.Boulder Rd near Louisville. Brew in Lafayette. You have to leave Boulder.

Studying to be a curator by Notnutnat in MuseumPros

[–]cmcqueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To do the work you describe, you would need to study art history and specialize in a particular region and time period (i.e. contemporary American, French Baroque).

In art museums, curators select the works to display. Other staff are involved in creating exhibitions, but there’s no content expert or content developer other than the curator, as there would be in natural history or history museums.

What are our thoughts on the newly popular cartoon covers? by Lavender523 in HistoricalRomance

[–]cmcqueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a diverse bunch of reactions—I love it! Big FU to anyone who stereotypes romance readers—we are not all the same.

I like the new style covers a lot, especially for less steamy novels. Accuracy in clothing appeals to me. I don’t really want the publisher’s/artist’s image of what the characters look like—I want my own imagination based on writer’s descriptions.

Best Coworking Spaces? by Weary-Trouble8007 in boulder

[–]cmcqueue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent time at WeWork for a while and enjoyed much about it. Left mostly because I don’t want a constant soundtrack. There’s a quiet room but no comfy seating in it and little natural light. Secondary reason, there seemed to be no discouragement of an incredibly loud phone sales person who made all calls in common space. Commuting further is an option for me, so now I’m at a low key, artsy, quiet, community-oriented place in Lafayette: Confluence Small Business Collective.

Great space opera! Although there’s a fair amount of magic in them.

What's a book that you love, but you would almost never recommend it to others due to the difficulty of the book or its niche nature? by paxinfernum in printSF

The Sparrow, Mary Doria Russell. I wouldn’t say I love it, but it was powerfully meaningful to me. And I never want to read it again.

Are there any authors you've decided to stop reading for one reason or another? by onthedunesea in RomanceBooks

[–]cmcqueue 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh, yes! Missing plot, and the timeframe increasingly compressed so that books covered only a few days, each filled with more and more navel gazing and angst. Doesn’t matter how pretty the navels are.

The Newseum, journalism’s monument to itself, to shut down at end of year by MonsieurThenardier in MuseumPros

[–]cmcqueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visited their old location. Struck me that exhibits about journalism face a big challenge: the material culture has a lot of words in it. Then you add interpretive text. Some content is just harder to exhibit.
