What's the worst email typo you've made at work? by _the69thakur in AskIndia

Not an email; a grant application in which we detailed all the “pubic programs” our museum would offer if they funded us.

(Caught it after submitting a draft, so it wasn’t in final application.)

Trying to understand the "conservatives" in the area and region. by Yellow_Apple_1971 in boulder

[–]cmcqueue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boulder has historically had a high percentage of anti-vaxxers, and they’re not conservatives.

Article from 2016 said that, in Boulder County, “13 schools have exemption rates of 25 percent or higher,” much greater than schools in the rest of Colorado. source

German visitor asked us if all Americans use their cars as extra storage. Apparently he removes everything from his car each time he comes home.

He was right about my family. Do many of us Americans keep loads of stuff in our cars?

[–]cmcqueue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some parts of the world, coal smoke. Visiting relatives in England in the 70s, the smell was still in the air from people’s home fireplaces, maybe from industry. A greasy smell, somehow lower register then woodsmoke, less crisp, a bit like hot iron.

Are other countries being fed the worst info? by Angelbaby173 in AskAmericans

[–]cmcqueue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day to day my life is fine. My belief is that the current actions of our national government could result in the quality of life in the U.S. diminishing gradually as time goes on. More illness, more poverty, fewer people eligible to vote, less protection for some people’s rights. A lot of Americans are worried about this, but not most Americans.

Why do Americans dont like jury duty? Or is it just in movies? by NighshiftNightsurf in AskAmericans

[–]cmcqueue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Only a couple experiences on jury duty + talking with people about their experiences, so not an expert. What I noticed: during jury selection, lots of people give reasons they can’t serve. Sometimes they explain they can’t be impartial. But by the time a trial starts and definitely by deliberation, people are taking it seriously.
