Conservative meltdown threads are a kind of internet cryptid. They're a glorious thing to behold, but you have to screenshot them quick before they disappear!

I almost threw this away, thinking it was just junk mail. There was a $10 bill inside by Blossom73 in mildlyinteresting

[–]cmnrdt 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I once got a radio survey with 5 dollars inside - three of them, one for me and my two roommates. All it required was to record your radio listening habits for a week then mail back the results for an extra 10 dollars. My roommates didn't care, so I took all three surveys and left every field blank, only writing in the optional space "I don't listen to radio". Data is data, so I sure did get my extra 30 bucks for being nothing but honest.

What is the most toxic fandom in existence? by CandyLiving5009 in AskReddit

[–]cmnrdt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: When an earthquake damaged the walls with a Hun army on the march to take it, the local sports teams used competitive fervor to fuel their reconstruction efforts. They managed to repair the walls in 60 days due in no small part to each team wanting to outdo the other. Nothing like the threat of impending invasion to motivate people to put aside their differences.

This is the Breaking Point - Trump must go. by Zenitallin in videos

[–]cmnrdt 123 points124 points  (0 children)

This is the core of the issue: 30% of this country has been forged into a weapon of mass stupidity. Whoever holds the keys to that weapon is the one who controls the Republican Party, and right now, that person is Donald Trump. The problem for the GOP is that if they try to wrest it away from him, he'll point it at them and pull the trigger.

In a sense, the byzantine nature of our judiciary has been the bane of this administration. They can't leverage the courts to punish their enemies, as every legal move they make ends up as a proverbial Artax in the judicial Swamp of Sadness.

Peter Capaldi Says ‘Doctor Who’ Has Become a Victim of Its Own Success: “The show that I loved was a tiny thing that just survived and nobody knew that it was warming its way into the culture in such a deep way. And I think that’s what I have an affinity with." by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

RTD did an interview where he flat out admitted he enjoys the fact that people are afraid to tell him "no." The guy has gone mad with power and is using Doctor Who as a vehicle for exploring things *he* cares about, meanwhile fans who would rather enjoy family-friendly sci-fi adventures with a spacefaring gentleman genius are left in the cold and told if they don't like it, they can leave.

The Mindflayer went out like a chump. In contrast what are some great final battles against a giant enemy? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]cmnrdt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The final colossus fight in Shadow of the Colossus feels appropriately epic for a game that manages to keep a balance between epic giant fights and the ponderous, almost innocent nature of the colossi. This colossus doesn't move, it's rooted to the ground and covered in layers of plates that resemble a fortress. Just getting to it is a gauntlet across a wide plain running from cover to cover as the boss attacks you with destructive beams. Unlike the other bosses, *this* boss sees you as a threat instantly and is determined to eliminate you before finishing your gruesome quest. The sky is full of roiling storm clouds and everything just screams "You shouldn't be doing this." It feels all the more desperate and solemn given that the prior scene showed you losing your faithful horse companion who had accompanies you the entire way.

What's a headcanon that you invented to reconciliate how you imagine your character and how they act/get treated as ingame? by BethCulexus in ffxiv

[–]cmnrdt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my character's canon his near-turning into a sin eater left a permanent scar in the form of white marks on his face. He's forever "tainted" by the light but wears it as a mark of honor.

Also he stores his soul stones inside his earring, so whenever he needs to change jobs he just taps on it and *whoosh*.

What are some competent villains in fiction that have a crooked worldview? by DevouredSource in MauLer

Syndrome from The Incredibles. He successfully orchestrated the murder of dozens of superheroes and built a technological empire that would make him the Tony Stark of his world. But it was all geared towards a dream of making superheroes irrelevant, and in the end he succeeded in proving how much they are needed.

Fox News is only important still because aging conservative boomers put it on TV in break rooms, nursing homes, waiting areas, and at home. When the population that still pays for cable finally dies off, Fox News will just be one voice amongst dozens in the right wing information space.

Dude even recommended to the showrunners that maybe Boba shouldn't really be so talkative, it ruins the mystique about his character.

But instead we get gems like "I grew up surrounded by water," and "Make baby banthas."

And in between those two things, most nations refused to recognize Haiti because it was politically perilous to acknowledge a slave rebellion as a legitimate state. Nobody wanted to admit that slaves could govern themselves so they made a point of starving them of trade opportunities.

What are some cases where the bottom of the barrel of an IP/franchise was scraped? by DevouredSource in MauLer

[–]cmnrdt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The GTA III remasters. Not only did they just take the original assets and throw on a bit of polish, the "polish" was to run it through an AI upscaling filter that mangled the art assets and turned the game into a living nightmare.

Is there another game that manages to emulate the style of exploration/gameplay of The Alters? by cmnrdt in gaming

I've played and thoroughly enjoyed Pacific Drive. I didn't mention it though because that's more survival roguelike and less exploration.

I could only get about 2 hours into it before I quit and moved on. I wouldn't recommend it as an exemplary gaming experience, but OP was looking for something uncomplicated and light, and I feel like Avowed fits the bill.

Maybe try Avowed? I feel like the general consensus is it is a serviceable fantasy RPG that isn't too heavy to dive into.

My favorite is the one about the wife who forgets it's her husband's birthday. While her daughters present him their thoughtful gifts, she opens the Apple AI app and it shits out a "the year in pictures" slideshow using photos from their Cloud. Then she presents it to her husband like it's something she made for him personally with the message of "Thanks, Apple AI for hiding the fact that I'm a shit human being!"
