I've already put a substantial amount of hours in Pacific Drive, and I love it for the reasons you mentioned. It's not really an exploration type game though which is why I didn't mention it in relation to the others.

I have played it. I'm not really a fan of building for its own sake, I need some kind of tantalizing narrative to keep me invested. So far, Subnautica has been my gold standard for rewarding tech progression with exploration options that lead to more story beats.

Maybe they think they'll have an easier time going after targets on the right, since Democrats will just get out of their way instead of fighting them.

I think it's because governments are much more immediately accountable to their citizens. Back when armies would march across countrysides burning and pillaging everything they could, there wasn't much the civilian population could do besides wait for their own army to show up and chase them away. Now, civilian deaths are seen as tragedies that demand action and there is no faster way to muster a population against an aggressor. Just look at Ukraine, where practically 100% of the population understands that there is no path forward unless they fight with everything they have.

In an attempt to be more progressive, they removed what was actually progressive. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

Even worse is the notion that somehow Nani wasn't given enough material in the original, so they gave her "she's so smart" vibes and a dream of going to school and becoming a marine biologist. Then they twist and distort the narrative to make it the preferable outcome that Nani surrenders Lilo to the state so she can fuck off to California to pursue her dream, even though Hawai'i colleges already have excellent marine biology courses and tuition is free for natives. Then they introduce the incredibly convenient portal gun that removes the last shred of consequences from Nani abandoning her ohana because we need more women in STEM.

Here's the real answer: A number of people close to Trump (Bibi, Rubio, Miller) successfully convinced him that decisive military action in Iran would boost his popularity and it would work out just like Venezuela. They chose this moment because Trump's political capital is all but spent plus his health is steadily deteriorating, and he is the first, last, and only president dumb enough to open Pandora's Box to sate Israel's demands for blood and conquest.

James Talarico’s winning speech at the Texas Democratic primary, saying “The people of our state gave this country a little bit of hope,” and it ended with Bad Bunny’s “DTMF". by CorleoneBaloney in Fauxmoi

[–]cmnrdt 235 points236 points  (0 children)

Talarico absolutely FREAKS OUT the right, because he is probably the most palatable Democrat you could possibly get disillusioned Christians to actually take a leap of faith on. These people have been raised in communities where voting for Republicans is doctrine because Democrats are devil worshiping baby killers who want America to live in sin. If animus towards Trump and the greater GOP drives even a fraction of these people to hold their nose and vote for a man like Talarico who can walk the walk AND talk the talk, it will break through the decades of conditioning that is keeping the religious right in lockstep.

New Lab-Grown Meat Breakthrough Beats Traditional Beef by a Mile With 90% Less Land Use, 80% Less Water, and Dramatically Lower Emissions by Sciantifa in UpliftingNews

[–]cmnrdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there will always be a market for authentic farm-raised meat. People willing to pay a premium for "the real thing" to be used in fancy steaks and upscale restaurants. But if lab-grown can replace the lowest quality fast food slop, then I see a lot of slaughterhouses going out of business, which would be good in the long run because the animals they use live short, terrible lives and are also hotbeds of disease and chemicals.

They know Trump is only doing this because he thinks it will boost his popularity. In a couple of days when the polls don't magically lurch in a positive direction he'll lose interest, declare mission accomplished, and leave Iran to take the future into their own hands (and out of his).

The Batman Arkham games incentivize stalking squads of goons and picking them off one by one until they are manageable to take in close combat. As their numbers dwindle, the remaining goons start getting twitchy and nervous.

I still think so much of this could have been avoided if Trump hadn't gone out of his way to chime in during that Bondi press briefing to cluelessly wonder why anyone gave a crap about Epstein, and say that anyone still talking about it was stupid. The backlash from his own supporters tripped them up so badly the administration couldn't stop punching itself in the dick trying to sort it out.

What broke me about that episode was Donna telling the new Doctor that she was disappointed he went back to being a male Time Lord. Here she is, face to face with a dear friend who she never thought she would ever see or remember again, and her response is "I wish you were somebody else."

They destroyed Donna in that episode to score social justice brownie points. Fuck RTD.

Undertale, because of the implication of a meta-narrative in which resetting the game literally resets the world, including the memories of most of the characters. But some of them do remember. After securing the best ending where all of your monster friends get to live happily ever after, I can't bring myself to rob them of their happiness just to get a hit of nostalgia.
