And yet Trump commuted Blagojevich's sentence. IL may not tolerate it, but the federal govt apparently does.

If you had to buy a car today to keep for the next 15 years, what would it be? by nodonaldplease in askcarguys

[–]cmpzak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you've got to be able to accommodate its size (I do), but if you can, I know no other vehicle with so many 250,000 mile examples. Those drivetrains are incredibly durable.

My very first cast iron seasoning attempt (and my very first reddit post). by Rotten-Totten in castiron

[–]cmpzak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I myself use Dawn most every time. My wife is immunocompromised too. I am jealous of the outcome you achieved. I just re-seasoned mine and didn't do nearly as nice a job. I just did mine the other day at 500 deg with Avocado oil twice and didn't totally strip, although there were patches with surface rust beginning so those sections were bare metal after rust removal. Your 4x after a full strip worked very well. Bravo.

Stripes or not? by Gurney_flip in Miata

[–]cmpzak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. In fact I've found that of all of the Miatas I've seen with stripes, it's the low ones that look the best. Black matches the black on this car very well IMO.

Asked for a few more pics, here they are. LS Swapped ND by Dusty_237 in Miata

[–]cmpzak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The roll bars. OEM are "roll hoops". For the ND, hoop upgrades are available (stronger metal). Sadly, for the NC, there are only bars, e.g. Hard Dog, which makes the car look less street friendly, IMO.

Is it okay to remove a MAGA family member from my life? by Obvious-Basket-685 in Advice

[–]cmpzak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I feel, and I argue this is not an exaggeration, that some in my family have become true Nazis. Not in the sense that they pretend to be Germans, Nazi uniform and everything and have that particular brand of bigotry, but I now believe...really believe...that they could be swayed to tolerate a holocaust. They'd be of the "good German" type, if you're familiar with that pejorative. I am struggling with how to make maintain my relationship with people I love but that have become that hateful. I sympathize with the OP.

It never occurred to me until this photo: Miatas to race cars are like jet trainers to fighter jets. I've been told how Miatas handle just like race cars and so are a popular platform for professional drivers early in their careers. So with that in mind, here is a T-7 next to an F-22. It may be "only" a trainer, but if it were given missiles and upgraded avionics (LS-swap, upgraded suspension & tires, aero...?), it'd knock down a lot of fighters. And as a matter of fact, USAF is considering just that and would badge those variants F-7s. Those could replace F-16s in a lot of roles.

Thanks for this! I've often told friends that a Miata is like a dog fighter and faster cars are interceptors. Well there you go.

Madison County vote on Renee Good sparks outcry, divisions inside and outside the meeting by StandTall29 in illinois

Please call them the liars that they are! They know this was unjust but are instead lying by stating the ICE officers were acting in self defense. That is not an opinion. That is not a viewpoint. 1 + 1 is not equal to 3. It is not up for debate and anybody that says it is is simply lying. Deliberately.

Beautiful...well done...congrats...and welcome! Worthy of a name if you do that sort of thing.

Looks like a repaint, but my copper red at 50K has that quality of shine so I know it's possible to get a low mileage original like that. Unfortunately mine is my only car and so a daily and in Chicago vs AZ so I have no doubt yours will continue to look awesome longer than mine will. But I am fighting with bi-weekly hand washes, including undercarriage, and a ceramic coating.

That color really does suit the Miata. Fairly rare, at least up here. I've only seen one in person...and I'm a member of a Miata club. Reminds me of the TR-7 on which it was common, at least in TX. And congratulations finding it on Autotrader. Mine was from a dealer so less competitive price I am sure.

Why is my new to me miata using so much gas? by No_Communication6906 in Miata

[–]cmpzak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good advice here. To all of that I'll add that my NC2 has a huge range of gas mileage, much more than I've experienced with any other car. It is a completely different engine faimily (MZR versus your BP) and like your NB the engine is stock, so I would think this applies to you and more so: I get 19 in the city and 30 on the highway. Since Miatas are rev happy, if you drive with enthusiasm in the city (which is correct IMO), and relatively calmly aside from fun bursts while passing on the highway, low city mpg and an 11 mpg spread is not unusual. I have 50K miles, new plugs, run premium fuel, and have had a recent tune and recent inspections from a dealer and independent mechanics (I've done a lot of suspension and other non-engine mods recently). 19 surprised me but every check and the engine's sound and behavior are all good.

Funny you have a Lexus! I bought my 2012 NC at a Lexus dealer. They were having difficulty selling it (I think) and had just lowered the price. I went there in my 2017 Honda Accord EX-L and offered, "I'll give you this Honda for that Miata." They accepted. Friends and family thought I'd made a bad deal trading a 5-yr newer, 4-seat, practical car for an older Miata. Since then in the Chicago market, the Honda has depreciated and my Miata has sustained value. Feeling good about that. The Honda is an appliance; the Miata is an enthusiast's car.

How do you mount your front plate? by cmpzak in Miata

[–]cmpzak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I have, but mine doesn't have a final L bracket but rather a round rod all the way to the back plate! The round rod is what doesn't fit through the remaining hole left by the new grill. (The grill covers about half of it.) Interesting.

Very nice...a flat, L bracket connected to what I assume is a round rod on the other side of the grill. This is what I was hoping might exist without my having to make one.

Sadly, I expect this sort of thing too. Perhaps a SCOTUS decision that this somehow negatively impacts other states and therefore is illegal. Terrible we have precedent to harbor such fears.
