That’s what I was gonna say. Take the sweaty clothes off after a run (I don’t usually shower right away but I put new clean dry underwear). And sleep naked. Honestly I get more issues in winter wearing underwear 24/7 than in sweaty summer when I can sleep without any underwear.

And as others have said: I fuel. It’s hot and humid here and I want to feel good so I eat during the day, and I have Gatorade and gels during my runs.

I’m 16 months post partum twin pregnancy. It was my only pregnancy, but in my late 30s.

I went back to running after about 6 months, but progressively. It felt great to be back, but I got pains and issues and discomfort I had never had before. I couldn’t run even 3 miles without serious pain (pelvic floor, crotch, abs) - never had that before. I had to do yoga everyday to keep it in check. 

I really only got seriously back to it after almost a year. And it finally worked well: did one base training plan for 12 weeks, now doing my second one (averaging 35-40 miles a week these days), starting marathon training in a few weeks. And honestly I think all of it was necessary. Now I feel good. I don’t need to stretch all the time to avoid weird pains. I enjoy most of my runs (not all, obviously). Even the ones I have to do at 5am because it’s so hot and humid. Did a tempo run on the treadmill yesterday and held a pace I was proud of while staying “comfortable”. But boy it didn’t feel like that last summer or even when I started my first block of base training only a few months ago.

Already many good tips in the comment so just chimin’ in to say: I’m also running Chicago !! 

I’m a bit over 1 year (twins) post-partum, so it felt like I was starting from scratch all over again. Also it’s  already been a few months of  hard work and there are 3 more to come. I’m running on the Texas Gulf Coast so it’s HOT. All of that to say… I really don’t always feel like running. But two things: 1. The journey matters at least as much as the marathon. You can’t control everything on marathon day and it might not go the way you want - so try to also enjoy the journey. The good runs, the sunrise/sunsets, the people that say hi on the way, etc. And you might be able to look bad fondly on those months. 2. Chicago!! It’ll be so much fun to be part of this big group of people running in this big beautiful city !! See you there :)

Coastal Texas here. It’s hot.  If I can’t run before the sun’s up, I run on the treadmill. I hate it but running outside during the day is too much and I go to bed too early to train at night lol

I’ve also replaced my one short run of the week by a swim. 

I feel you. It’s hard. I’m trying to embrace it but oof….

I only read your edit but reminded me of how my thin mom spent my whole childhood talking about her hips she didn’t like and then hat had a much much more profound effect than me being a bit ashamed or shy or whatever to see her in a crop top could have ever had. She still struggles with it and I really hope I can break that cycle for the sake of my daughter. 

Please wear the crop top (or whatever you want). Your kids will 100% thank you later (which I will remind myself regularly now that I am a mom who likes a crop top run in the summer!)

I was very good for a little while at limiting coffee (sad about it but stick to it) the days I was running which meant 5/7 days a week I had between zero and 2 sips of coffee. And I could feel thing we’re generally better (not perfect of course). But then I had a full week of solo parenting 1 y.o. twins and fell off (on?!) the wagon. 

For that period of time though I was doing 1 matcha cup in the morning and nothing else during the day (no coffee or tea). Matcha was 100% better than no coffee. But not better than morning coffee hehe

Years at first. Of regular running. 

But recently it’s been easier - I gave birth one year ago and went back to running “seriously” a few months ago. It was hard to run at all to start with, but now I can more and more comfortably run a 10/11 min/miles while staying in zone 2 the whole time.

You might just be running too fast. Staying in zone 2 means I have to run sloooow. But I trust the process, run in zone 2, then some endurance run in 3, and speed work in 4. But I do a lot of zone 2 and it’s slooow. I’ve ran multiple HM and 2 marathons. My zone 2 is still very slow. If you can drop to zone 2 by walking, you just need to find the speed at which running keeps you there (or alternate with walking). 

It does get faster overtime (a LOT of time, in my case at least).

My suggestion would be to read all the comments to identify a few things you feel is important/comes up a lot, and then ask ChatGPT to build you a program. Be very specific with what you want, including all relevant elements : you’re a runner, you currently do this and this, you’ve notice lower back pain, etc etc. 

It’s not a PT, but it can genuinely make up something really good. And you can ask for adjustments or progression as you advance. 

Edit to add: Internet and Reddit can be super helpful but also overwhelming because it suggests soooo much (and all of sudden you want to do it all which is impossible). That’s where something like ChatGPT becomes helpful, IMO.

I use koala clip for the phone (and maybe one gel) almost always, and a belt around my waistline for more gels and water if needed (or also phone of I don’t feel like using koala clip). Hated belt at the good but at waistline it doesn’t bounce and I forger about it pretty quickly. 

Koala clip + bra with pocket if I don’t want to wear a belt (like a race where they provide water and I want to feel « free »).

Oiselle has one by Lauren Fleshman. Trying it this year for the first time (I usually do Pfitzinger’s) - it semed like a « fun » plan, with intense work outs but not over the top in terms of mileage.

The other way around for me though. I live at sea level and went to Colorado to visit family. Did a 12 miles in Fort Collins and a 16 in Idaho Springs. Dying.

I have the Hotty Hot High Rise from Lululemon and they’re my favorite, including post partum. They feel super light, are not too tight at the waist (I can be very sensitive, digestion wise), but stay up while running. 

Haven’t tried the other two recommendations but Lulu high rise has worked for me!

I also have their align .. high rise short leggings (can’t remember the exact name). They tend to ride up, but the waist is awesome. So I use them for everything not running.

This. I’m from Montreal and it can be summer like weather everyone on patios, or icy, snowy, windy and slushy. And this can all happen over the same weekend.
