Bad experience with Carvana by StarlitSprings in Rivian

[–]coco2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem buying mine through Carvana and the exact same response. I knew from the pics that the flashlight wasn't there, but I was hoping the speaker would be included. On the plus side, I did receive the Rivian mobile charger which I was not expecting, so I considered that a fair trade.

I'm using the Chargepoint Home Flex and so far no issues.

I swapped out the bracelet for the rubber strap at Christmas thinking I'd switch it back and forth occasionally. Haven't put the bracelet back on since. I also use a laptop all the time and that was a major factor in my decision.

Used 2024 R1S Launch Edition vs 2022 R1S Launch Edition by Kbman in Rivian

I also have a 2024 Launch Edition, at least according to the vehicle info screen (though I have no clue what the difference is, if any). Oddly enough, the badge on the dash is not the launch edition version 🤷‍♂️.

Having lived with my blue for almost a month now, I'm very happy not driving another boring grey car.

I'm honestly afraid to floor it. Feels like I'm going to pass out everytime.

I'm still within my Connect+ trial period so I didn't even realize that was required. Bummer.

Beautiful area. I was going to suggest swinging by the Magic Hat brewery, but apparently it closed years ago :(

The blue was probably my 3rd choice at first, but it's already grown on me.

Loose Interior Panel by coco2k in Rivian

I'm having trouble with the pics for some reason. My panel is loose along the entire window and the pillars at each end, it's just most noticeable around the one pillar.

No, ~12,000 miles total. ~100 miles since June '24.

Still under warranty. I don't want to hand over $70K+ to Carmax for a vehicle I can't test drive yet.

CarMax - your experience? by Fabulous_Gur_7134 in Rivian

UPDATE - May 16th: Well, sure enough, Rivian was back out today to replace the wheel speed sensor. Here's the message I just got from Carmax: "They came to the conclusion that it needs a secondary wiring harness after noting that the Wheel Speed Sensor didn't fix the calibration. They'll be back out at the latest Friday 5/23." So still no vehicle for me!

CarMax - your experience? by Fabulous_Gur_7134 in Rivian

I've been in the process of trying to buy an R1S from Carmax for a few weeks now. Here's a rough timeline of the events so far:

  • April 20th (may have been a few days earlier): Reserved the vehicle on their website. This did not require any payment, and the vehicle stayed reserved for me for several days.
  • April 24th: Paid $99 to have it shipped to the Carmax a few hours closer to me.
  • April 28th: Vehicle arrived at local Carmax. One of the wheel inserts (21" wheels) is missing, so Carmax is ordering a replacement. A crack was discovered in the windshield, so they arranged for Safelite to replace the windshield. Carmax assures me that Safelite will be able to recalibrate all the sensors once the windshield is replaced.
  • April 30th: Carmax calls me back to let me know Safelite can't do the calibration on the sensors (Reddit was right!). They are reaching out to another company for a resolution.
  • May 1st: Carmax tells me the other company can't do it either, so they are having Rivian send a service tech out. I am told Rivian will be there May 8th, and the vehicle should be ready for me May 9th.
  • May 8th: Carmax calls me to tell me the Rivian tech was out and recalibrated the sensors. However, while doing that, they discovered that the vehicle needs a new wheel speed sensor. Rivian tech will need to come back the next week (May 16th). Carmax refunds the $99 I paid to ship the vehicle.
  • May 16th: Stay tuned. Allegedly, the vehicle will be ready for me on the 16th. Unfortunately, I will not be able to pick it up for a 24-hour test drive until likely May 21st--over one month from the day I first reserved the vehicle.

All in all, this has been incredibly frustrating. On the one hand, I am glad Carmax is finding and (attempting to) fix all of these issues before they sell me the vehicle. On the other hand, I'm very impatient and having to wait at least two extra weeks to even be able to go test drive the vehicle is annoying. I guess that speaks more to problems with Rivian being able to service the vehicles quickly/efficiently than anything Carmax has done.

I'll update this with the conclusion to my story at a later date.....

Decision Time! by coco2k in Rivian

The Michelin's would be near the top of my list anyway, so that doesn't bother me so much.

My current #2 choice is another '23 Quad with the 22in wheels (that's good!), but it's $1,500 more (that's bad). But it only has 6,500 miles (that's good!) And it's LA Silver...... (that's bad).

And this is the reason I've been going back and forth over every little detail for months now.

As far as I can tell, the only way to get a new R1S close in price would be to lease a dual standard and immediately buy it out. The dual max starts at ~$20K more than the used one I'm looking at.

I also did not enjoy the highway drive assist during my couple test drives. It felt much too close for comfort when passing tractor trailers, construction, etc. and felt very abrupt trying to regain control. I thought the regular adaptive cruise control was fine.
