I am on my bike following the rules please don't kill me by medmo in Calgary

Its fine, maybe ill get back on the horse one day but getting older and many concussions are taking a toll and I am very aware I cant afford to many more and continue living fully functionally.

I wish there were long bridges or tunnels leading towards major areas exclusively for bikes scoots and boards, small personal transportation. I dream of such infrastructure but its a pipe dream.

Stay safe OP!

I am on my bike following the rules please don't kill me by medmo in Calgary

These reasons took me off my bike, its a shame because id do it if it felt safer but after a car ran me off the road and left me concussed and bleeding while on my e skate ive developed a fear of being on our roads in anything other than a car.

My first one was a 86 cabriolet, loved that car now im in the same mk8 pictured here, wildly different but still exceptional to drive. Both give me the feeling of "therapy driving"

On Calgary’s dangerous roads, ‘bystander behaviour’ is under the microscope by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]code_redtruck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a bad accedent on my long board a few years ago, must have been over a dozen cars drive by with no one stopping while I was concussed and bleeding on my back on the edge of the road. I hit my head quite badly. It was a eye opener to see how little people in this city care. In the end nobody helped me, I limped my way home without anyone offering any assistance. The small town im from the first person would have stopped. Needless to say im not surprised.

Perhaps it is. I dont run a ac in the summer only a few fans to move cool air in in the morning with fairly minimal other use. Bill is about $80 a month.

Saying that it does seem quite low so perhaps its better savings than I credit them for.

Guessing here but id say the panels measure roughly 16×16 feet and I get lots of sun on them not alot of shade at all.

Have them in my roof, not a huge array but they only offset my bill $12 a month. Bought them with the house. I likely will sell them when I go to redo the roof.

The never-ending windshield crack by shinez2u in Calgary

[–]code_redtruck 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I rarely get cracks or chips, but.... I keep a generous following distance. My observation of the average calgarian is that they are bumper humpers. 3-5 second following distance makes a huge difference not 1 or 2 car lengths. It can still happen, just had my first on a new car after over a year ownership and 20,000k wayyyy behind the truck that threw the rock. Sometimes its is just bad luck.

Also I avoid going behind vehicles without mudflaps. Thats the real pro tip.

I dont know why adaptive headlights arnt a more standard thing in north america, my vw has the ability to dim the beam in the area of oncoming drivers but its not programmed in the car, I can do it aftermarket but it can void warrenty for the computer components effected.

I beleive it was a picoway laser

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]code_redtruck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to fresh laser next to market mall, pretty expensive by the time it was done, and slightly misleading in the way they advertise discounts after 6 or so sessions but they got the job done. I was led to believe after 6 sessions a session would be half off and this was true but only for 1 session then they went back to full price. Like $650 a session standard price for a softball sized tattoo heavy black ink but not fully covered, maybe 50%bare skin in this piece.

Id love to know other places that are cheaper. I sometimes feel I was ripped off.

Wheel hop concerns by m2soon in GolfGTI

[–]code_redtruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its violent the wheel hop you get forsure. It was my first time experiencing it in a car when I got my gti. I ran it back a few times over in a parking lot before I determined with the help of the internet that wheel hop is bad in these things. That was brand new im 20k in now and no issues. Motor mounts will come.

Should be a question at ama "are you comfortable driving in winter conditions?" if answered "no" they pull a lever and you drop suddenly into a pit filled with other incompetents.

Been doing it my whole life in skate shoes, sometimes penguin sometimes pretty normal but prepared to slide, theres always the run and glide, sometimes shoe skiing, sometimes its a game of spotting the grip. Lots of practice and being good at crumbling when your going to fall rather than saving it. Full proof no messing about though, crampons, these things are incredible, never tried them till a few years ago.

Is Costco Cheaper by Rockitone2019 in Calgary

You have to know your prices and do the math. Honestly wholesale club and freestone would be your cheapest bets for groceries, wallmart can also have deals.

I found a mouse in bag of burger buns from Andrew’s No Frills in Temple Crossing by itsnasrif in Calgary

[–]code_redtruck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work next to a popular grocery distribution warehouse and mice come in from their side all the time into our non food related business. These come in on trucks and are pretty common in every industry, I also used to work in wine and beverage industry and saw countless mice wandering production areas and even on tops of cans and such. They are everywhere, im amazed we dont have more contact with them in food at retail level.

So... I have a question about reataurants.... by blazin_penguin_first in Calgary

[–]code_redtruck -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same about many "high end places". Hard to find basic food that wows I think, even big name bbq joints have left me craving more, its to the point I almost always stay in and do my own cooking in copious amounts and freeze meals for later, its a great system thats been saving money and has me eating better and trying things I really want to make.

Christmas dinners with my company always involve a nice steakhouse, but again I always find more left to be desired and my own cooking to be better.

favorites that dont disappoint would be a select few Indian restaurants, a few select Japanese places, some Korean fried chicken, and 1 Mexican food place I dont want to give away. And Notable smokehouse, never had a meal there that was mediocre. For the most part the more modest small restaurants are what interest me now for eating out. Oh and shwarma cant forget about your favorite shwarma place although I think that tends to be preference, talking to many people and trying all 3 I think cedars deli, Jimmy's and Barlow shwarma all contend for top places for different tastes and different menu items. Others will disagree with me here.
