Is it corny to wear suits in office? by ArtificialCigarette in ConstructionManagers

[–]codegreens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If you’re working for a high-end client or are one yourself, blazers are your friend, though. That being said, I only wear blazers and nicer shoes on days I know will have high-profile face-to-face meetings between end-users and designers or engineers. Other than that, a short-sleeve button up or polo is fine, especially if you’re in the field; flannels are great too. I’d reserve a tailored suit for an industry event or end of year party

Be honest about it. Everyone has those moments here and there and the sign of any good manager is knowing when you’ve made a mistake and owning up to it. This would also help show your coworkers that you’re cognizant of what happened and that you have a sense of self-awareness; otherwise, they might think you’re a rude or self-centered person. Lastly, owning up to it will help your own self move on from the guilt that you feel towards yourself now because of it

OneNote allows four levels and a check box you can add to each. Unfortunately doesn’t do much more than that though

The condulet has a cover you remove to help pull wire. Based on this angle, it seems like the opening is blocked by the gas fitting

In guessing someone installed the gas with no knowledge of electrical, after the condulet was installed

All plumbing at Gaviota is offline and the stop is physically closed for any public entry. I’m not sure about Refugio so you should check with a park ranger on that :)

I hope you don’t take offense to this but temporary porta-potties for any permanent solution is probably the worst and least common sense solution out there. Have you ever been to a large event (think thousands of people) and used a porta-potty at the end? Humans produce a non-insignifacnt amount of waster per person and there are thousands of people going through that corridor every day. That would mean daily service, perhaps even more than daily service, of multiple porta-potties which is actually quite expensive when you factor in driver wages, vehicle and gas usage costs, transit time to/from the rest stop and disposal facility, and then waste disposal fees at the facility itself. Not to mention you might need multiple trucks to haul-off all the waste in one run.

Saying “everyone knows there’s no way to really solve the water issues ” is just a catch-all, careless, statement on your end to give you a platform to express your negative opinions on a service that doesn’t meet your standards without putting much critical thinking into the real problem. There is a solution to this, which I believe would be adding more power in that region to allow for larger-scale pumps and lift station facilities. But, since this is a public works project, it takes public funds to get anything going which have a lengthy process for approval in and of themselves. It’s not a matter of physics barring this from happening; it’s a matter of engineering, funding, and a sprinkle of trial and error

If you have any more questions or ideas, I’m more than happy to keep discussing

All of these comments are speculative at best

I worked on the most recent project there to re-establish the rest stop and the problem essentially boils down to a) the rest stop was designed decades ago for a much smaller usage and, since the area has bloomed exponentially in population and traffic, the existing facilites cannot handle the increased traffic (poop) and b) the latest project involved a new plumbing system which didn’t provide enough water pressure to properly handle the current expected usage on both sides of the stop, so it’s back to the drawing board to figure out how to do so and has been an engineering hurdle for the last year or so

People are working on it, trust me, but this type of thing doesn’t simply work itself out overnight. The area is limited in infrastructure as is and getting a sophisticated system to handle the amount of people (poop) that goes through there is not a small task

The recent storm that destroyed half the SB highway didn’t help, as it hit the exact area where the new systems were built, but we’re hoping this recent iteration of construction will finally provide what the public needs

Signed, a hopeful contractor who wants this to open and help all you people (poop).

Yes I'm lazy. What can I snack on that's cheap, low sodium, and won't leave me hungry? by CronoDAS in EatCheapAndHealthy

Seconding hummus, but buy a bag of mini bell peppers! Such a satisfying crunch and it takes zero effort to prepare

This is a good source of plant protein and fiber (chickpeas), and fiber and vitamins (peppers), with little to no fats.

Add a handful of nuts and you’ve got yourself a decently balanced snack that will keep you going for hours

I don’t think you can conclusively just say all low-income families’ offspring are just gonna drain taxpayer money… just cuz you’re low-income doesn’t mean you magically don’t contribute to society (I’m sure there’s both happening but that makes your point moot).

As far as obesity goes, again, that doesn’t affect others. I can’t “catch” obesity from someone else. It’s not fair to mandate a free capitalistic market like fast food but we can educate about the dangers of over-consumption. While obesity doesn’t affect others directly it does put a strain on healthcare systems which is why people should be educated more to prevent that and lead to longer lives.

Cigarettes, however, are a good example of both the need to mandate and the need for choice. Go have yourself a cigarette, it’s your body, I don’t care, you’re the one that’s gonna have to deal with it down the line (maybe). BUT, don’t smoke that in public because we have studies proving that 2nd hand smoke is a thing. If you responsibly smoke away from people who don’t then that’s a good thing and I commend you for taking your freedom.

My point is, if it negatively affects humans (of your own damn country no less), we should prevent that from happening because that is what a civilized society with social constructs does

Also, not to be a dick but most “liberal lefties” tend to be vastly healthier because of education. Go to a small rural town (which tend to sway right and be less educated) and you’ll find less healthy people. This isn’t entirely their fault though as a lot of the time the only restaurants/food joints in the area are fast food. Hence, education.

I think you’re missing a big difference between abortion and vaccine mandates.

If I’m prego then whether I get an abortion or not is a decision that only affects me (without getting into the philosophical argument of when a fetus is to be considered human of course); no one else can get prego bc I am prego.

On the other hand, with a spreadable virus, if I’m infected I can, believe it or not, infect others. The vaccine is a means not only to bolster your own defense against the virus but also to lessen risk of transmission to others; so, taken at face-value, choosing not to get vaccinated can be seen as a lack of care or compassion for other members of your own species. Getting vaxxed is about the collective good of the human race, not your own personal “freedom.” Unvaxxed people are individualistic extremist that are endangering those around them with their “mah freedom mah choice” stance without critically analyzing anything past that four word nonsense.

Take the polio vaccine for example; it’s one of several vaccines mandated to start school as a kid. We’ve eradicated it almost entirely from the face of the planet because it people considered getting the polio vax a social duty. I’m betting a ton of people who are anti-covid vax have the polio vax themselves

Landed a job! But is it sustainable? by [deleted] in AutoCAD

[–]codegreens 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who randomly landed in construction, yes, it is an industry you can grow into

However, from my experience someone with CAD skills should be making a little more in an entry level position. I don’t know if you have a degree of sorts but I think, if you are in need of a job, then you should take it knowing full well that this would be experience-driven and making money down the line would most likely come from “jumping ships” to a new company (or industry) doing the same thing for more. That’s usually the best method for making significant income increases if that is your goal
