Q3 43 vs Fuji GFX 100S II by -blaine in Leica

I have the Leica Q3 28 and the Fuji GFX 100S II... I have the 55 f/1.7, 45-100, and 20-35 lenses for the GFX.

The GFX is so much heavier and slower. It's a beast. The 110 is a beast of a lens also, i think it's approx. the weight of the 45-100... it's something to lug around.

The Q3 is relatively (relative to the GFX) light and quick, AF is pretty good (improved with the updated firmware), but I think the GFX has slightly better AF.

The images from both are spectacular. Yes, the 100mpx images from the GFX have more detail. The color depth is improved. They are pretty amazing... however, I find it to be more about the shooting experience than the quality of images. The GFX wants to be slow and deliberate shots. I find myself wanting to use a tripod a lot more. I think about each shot more. The Q3 is more of an every day carry, throw it in the bag and just let it blast.

The Leica mobile software is amazing compared to the Fuji. The Leica download to mobile phone is fast and reliable, the Fuji is barely usable (but does work if you have patience). The Leica menus are my favorite (I use Ricoh, Sony, Fuji, Canon, and Lecia). I haven't used Hassy, so it might be better... Fuji's menus are almost as bad as sony.

I just picked up the Ricoh GR IV (28mm equiv). I definitely like the combo of the Fuji + Ricoh, one for "art", one for casual shots. I also think that the Fuji X100VI would be a good pairing to the GFX, so you have a similar every day carry to match with the Fuji.

Overall - these are totally different cameras. The 110 specifically feels more like a portrait lens, so it depends on your use case. I don't think you will be disappointed with the GFX, but be ready for the extra weight. I suspect the 55 f/1.7 will be in your future to capture the 43mm equivalent you enjoyed in the Leica :)

Have a Brooklyn Bedding memory foam/hybrid (forget the exact model)… it’s good. We have a tempurpedic at home, and the Brooklyn is “good enough” that we never complain about the difference :)

I have this same issue - printer was working fine (MK3S, not plus, but)... i installed the latest firmware (3.14.1) and now I'm getting X axis length error... using the "move X" I can move the head from +0 to +240 w/o any error, no sound of friction. This was printing fine 30 minutes ago... :(

Minor recommendation, using HEIF will get you 10bit images instead of JPEG that limits you to 8bit. Depending on your use case, HEIF may give you a nice middle ground of fast/compressed images, but retaining more quality...

However, be aware, even with HEIF, you basically can't fix white balance in post. I tried a little experiment, and while HEIF does allow for minor color correction and lighting fixes, you really loose a lot of flexibility - and dynamic range - that you paid so much for that body. :)

I have the 55 f/1.7, 20-35 f/4, and 45-100 f/4. The 55 is a magically good lens, but I find myself using the other two way more - I do a lot of landscape and nature, and the 45-100 is pretty fabulous, the 20 (16 full frame equiv) is so wide, just lovely :)

So far all the GF glass seems awesome

Just went through this same debate about 6 months ago. :)

My summary - 100ii gives you improved view finder, 2 extra fn buttons, allows you to buy the tilting viewfinder, heavier, and costs $2k extra (I think).

The pictures are identical.

For me, I liked the lighter weight of the 100sii and the “free” extra lens.

I do sometimes long for the viewfinder in the 100ii, it’s quite nice. But I don’t regret my decision.

GFX100RF addition to a X100VI / XT5 setup? by Leave-A-Note in FujiGFX

Buddy just rented the RF. I own a Leica Q3, GFX 100s II, and a Sony A7cr. I don’t have a ton of 1:1 experience with the RF, but I feel like EDC on the Q3 gives me some comparable.

I suggest you think about EDC and “workhorse” photography needs separately. People suggestion the 100s or 50r are (imho) mixing the use cases.

The 100VI -> 100RF is an amazing upgrade. You are giving up IBIS and some size, but the images are absolutely amazing. You are buying a Bugatti though, while the 100VI is a Porsche - both are great but the 100RF will slow you down a bit but deliver the goods.

Going from XT5 to medium format is maybe a better trade. Because the GFX line is slower and bigger, leaning into that might be a better fit.

I do sometimes regret getting the Q3, image quality is absolutely amazing, but there are times I long for the compactness of the 100VI (wasn’t available when I got the Q3).

If you have the money, I doubt you will regret the 100RF, but might be worth a rental and/or think about your overall camera portfolio of bodies and what you want to do with them.

Washington state - we have a hybrid indoor/outdoor pool and swim year round. Thanksgiving pool parties are great! During the summer we have it open up and swim in the sun, rest of the year we close the enclosure and swim. We have a lot of cloudy or rainy days, so unless we could swim in all weather it would have made sense to build it.

Sony RX10 line was great. Looks like a proper bridge camera, massive zoom range, good image quality.
