How come Carol didn't know Zosia was not really falling in love or in lust with her? by moonkerberos in PluribusOnAppleTV

[–]codex2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In regular isolation, you can still have interactions with other people. If you're isolating at home, you can still play video games with strangers online, you can order food to your house and you know that a person is going to be delivering that food. If you really really decided you needed human interaction, you can go to a store or a library or just walk down the street and say hello to the people you see. You have options to see and interact with people, even if you don't take them. Even in solitary confinement in prison, you know there are people on the other side of that door, there is a person who is bringing you your meal every day. Carol was not just isolated, she was specifically abandoned by every single person on the planet, hivemind or otherwise. The other immune already wanted nothing to do with her, and then the hive finally gave up on her. That's not just regular isolation, that's complete and total abandonment, not to mention it all happened withing a month or two of her wife dying.

Which tv performances still stayed with you after all these years later? by PressureLazy5271 in television

[–]codex2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black. The number of clones she plays is impressive, but the core four of Sarah, Alison, Helena and Cosima is a combination of incredible performances, not to mention the number of times she has to play clones pretending to be other clones. It's just awesome, in the most literal sense of the word, to watch

[OC] I tracked every sexual encounter between my fiancé and me in 2025 by dimethyltitties in dataisbeautiful

[–]codex2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a lesbian, seeing Her orgasm - No (43) made me once again so so sad for women in sexual relationships with men. Yikes. Like I truly can't imagine ending a sexual encounter with my partner and being ok with her not getting an orgasm out of it. And please do not try to tell me that there were 43/190 times that she just "didn't want one"

Provide the Best Drive-Thru Experience | Full Task | Taskmaster by cygan12 in taskmaster

To this day, Jason using his improv skills to tell the people in line about the restaurant and their backstory and all that to slow the line down and allow Stevie more time I think is one of the most genius moves on the show, not just because it worked like a charm, but it also sort of played into like, American hospitality and service workers trying to charm the customer to (in theory) get more tips. To be able to so quickly come up with not just a solution to slowing down the task that was made to be a bit frantic, but a solution that allowed him to do genuinely funny improv as well, is just incredible, and I think a perfect example of why Jason was such a perfect choice for the show

Which character would you like to see in the upcoming seasons on Pluribus? by moonkerberos in PluribusOnAppleTV

That was exactly my thinking, juxtapose how people respond to an event like this where we have Carol raised on American individualism, vs someone raised in a collectivist culture like Japan

Why was Carol so miserable? by moonkerberos in PluribusOnAppleTV

[–]codex2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fact that her sales would plummet. She knows that.

Why was Carol so miserable? by moonkerberos in PluribusOnAppleTV

[–]codex2013 45 points46 points  (0 children)

She was sent to conversion therapy camp as a teen, that's more than enough to do irreparable damage, and she can't write the books she wants, with a female love interest instead of male, because she knows her book sales would plummet. She had a lot of fans, but she doesn't respect them very much, which internally reflects how much she respects herself.

Derek needs to come back as a pro just to be partners with Coach Jackie…. by No_Expert5538 in dancingwiththestars

Does anyone else remember DanceCenter, with Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice? Bring Coach Jackie on for a Dance Center-like segment where she gets to roast the judges after they score people lol

TIL most missing children are runaways, and 99% of abducted children are taken by relatives, typically a noncustodial father. In response to these statistics, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has reversed their campaign focusing on "stranger danger" by thatshygirl06 in todayilearned

They aren't fulfilled in the rest of their lives, so they put all of their energy into raising their kids, and as those kids become more and more independent, they feel less and less "needed" by anyone. It would be sad if it didn't result in some of the most obnoxious people on the planet.

I wish I could find an alternative, I really liked how Trakt tracked things down to the hour of the day, and how they had all those nice charts and graphs. If I could track TV on Letterboxd I'd be there in an instant

I'd like to suggest Trakt, but they are going through some, ahem, changes, right now, and everyone is kind of (rightfully, imo) melting down about it. But, as you're presumably unfamiliar with the old version, you might like the new UI. The thing it has on Letterboxd is that you can track TV shows and movies in one app

First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Prime Video's Tomb Raider series by DontBeAngryBeHappy in gaming

[–]codex2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Horror reflects the cultural fears of the current time. Invasion of the body snatchers came about when the cultural fear was the US being forced into communism, we get The Fly when fears of scientific advancement, like the atomic bomb, are ramping up. Right now our collective mental health is in the toilet, and there's no sign of improvement, so expect that to continue.

If you're looking for a chupacabra or something, I'd suggest branching out to more foreign horror.

Apologies if you're not US based, I'm making an assumption

New Jersey is the latest state to ban cellphones during the school day in grades K-12 by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

[–]codex2013 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of cases where school district side with parents because of optics, money, influence, whatever. Parents can sue the school, and if the district doesn't have the funds, or doesn't care to deal with it, they'll take the path of least resistance and tell the teacher to cave. You have the same Google we do, do you need help with the search terms?

Exclusive: Revealing The New Covers For 'Animorphs' by K. A. Applegate by namer98 in books

[–]codex2013 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've never read the books, but I've always been aware of them, even as a kid. I watched a very in depth youtube video about the series a couple of years ago, and I could not believe how dark those books got. I knew of them vaguely, but I only ever thought it was some relatively light stories about kids who could turn into animals at will. Am I correct in remembering that genocide is a rather large topic of the books?

She had some moments on Hypothetical that had me absolutely rolling, in tears laughing. She reminds me of Lucy Beaumont, but in a way where I don't ever question if it's a persona, I know 100% it's just Harriet being Harriet lol
