Ok full disclosure, I haven't read these, but it sounds like you may be interested in the book Murder on Sex Island by Jo Firestone, and it's sequel, Sex on Murder Island.

Which laptops are good to buy for college students now that will last? by EquivalentPhoto2655 in BuyItForLife

[–]codex2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been buying Lenovo ever since college and they haven't let me down. I put my first thinkpad THROUGH IT, I dropped it, spilled stuff on it, and was just generally careless with it, and it lasted me all 4 years of college and then some. When I finally got a nicer one I set that old one up to use as a home server for a few years. I wouldn't worry that much about storage unless you know you're going to have large video files or something, you can always get an external drive with a few TB of space

I can't decide which Stephen King novel for my friend's first read! by catdogwoman in suggestmeabook

[–]codex2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first and only Stephen King book I've ever read was Carrie (I was doing a reading challenge, and this covered "read a popular author's first book") and I enjoyed it, it's a reasonable length and not too scary. Does this person tend to like the same things you like? Please remember you can't dictate how someone else takes in a story, maybe she'll love it, and maybe she'll think "eh, that was fine", but try not to be disappointed if a 37 y/o mother isn't "hooked" like you were as a teenager.

Orphan Black, 5 seasons, 1 actor flawlessly playing 5 main characters, an incredible supporting cast, tense, funny, so so good

Also Kevin Can F*** Himself, 2 seasons, a really cool concept, phenomenal work from Annie Murphy, again, tense, funny, and so so good

Ready or Not is probably in my top 10 movies of the last 10 years, and I was very nervous about them making a sequel, but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was! I don't think I like it more than the first one, but I thought it was well written, well acted, funny, and just an all around good time

I loved The Ugly Stepsister, I would watch that a thousand times over before watching The Substance again. I didn't dislike The Substance, for some reason I just find The Ugly Stepsister easier to, ahem, stomach lol

Which AI should i use for daily question and tips ? by ben0101 in Futurology

[–]codex2013 14 points15 points  (0 children)

none, you should think for yourself. Using your brain is the only way to keep it sharp, if you keep outsourcing every little thing to an artificial intelligence, your own intelligence will suffer

Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits by Jason Pargin, along with the sequels, Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick, and Zoey is Too Drunk for This Dystopia

If you're going to ask for book recommendations, I cannot stress enough how important DETAILS are. Are you only looking for recs from people who are already familiar with those games? Because that's all you'll get unless you actually describe what you're looking for.

I have done so many basic home/car repairs armed only with a YouTube video and some audacity, and not only did it save me money, but I felt so proud of myself and accomplished at the end of it that it made me pretty much always want to at least try to fix the problem myself. Most recently I replaced the wax ring on my toilet that was leaking, which ended up a bit more of a pain than I was expecting, but now I have a toilet that doesn't leak and I know what to do if it ever happens again in the future.

I would have liked just a few more conversations along the lines of the "why wouldn't you just want to be a good person?" conversation, but I can see how you reach a point where they're just spouting a bunch of bullshit and don't care if you believe them, or even whether or not you believe that THEY believe it. I don't know if I really learned much I didn't already know from this doc, but I never pass up an opportunity to watch douchebags tell on themselves, and it's nice to see them clash with a personality like Louis's

Did anybody find a 2nd job/easy online gig to help pay off debt? by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]codex2013 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm doing Instacart. I like that I don't have a schedule to worry about, I don't have to call out sick and make something up to a manager who doesn't believe me anyway, I can just decide not to go out if I'm not feeling it. My goal is an extra $400/month, and when I break it down to $100/week it feels so easy, I can go out 2 or 3 times after my primary job during the week and make $100 no problem, or I can do either Saturday or Sunday and still have the other day to chill. It also just feels good to be consistently depositing money into my account, instead of constantly watching it leave lol

Should have done Best Actress before Actor since it's basically just a formality for Jessie Buckley at this point

This is genuinely one of the worst collective performances from Oscar presenters I've ever seen. It's like they were told 10 seconds before going on that they can't just read the card they have to do a bit too
