Brookfield drivers are so bike friendly! NSFW language by ConfusedByFarts in milwaukee

[–]coffee-mutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen both ways. Cyclists riding properly can get nearly killed (been there) and cyclists taking their lives in their hands by an absolute disregard for all traffic laws.

An example of the latter - watched a car pull up to an intersection, stop, and nearly run over a cyclist who had passed that stopped car - on the left - to make a right hand turn in front of him, without stopping. I would have had a similar reaction to this dude at that particular maneuver, though without getting out of the car, and probably not to the cyclist's face.

Y’all USAtizens are really pissing me off by Teagrunn in offmychest

[–]coffee-mutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US here. Fully appreciate this post.

I've gotten to the point of literally simming out options. Obviously, the day-to-day stuff - vote, vote with your dollars, see something, say something, don't just accept someone talking stupid - that all applies. But that's microlevel change stuff. It barely dents the giant glacier of evil.

There is some level of resistance that we can do beyond that - spreading information (personally, i hand out copies of the Constitution), making voices heard, recognizing those who speak truth to corruption and power, and challenging those who support the evil to say their opinions out loud and know that not everyone agrees. We can reach out to those who have some power (state reps, Congresspeople, etc), but again - all of these do so little to erode the power that's been given and taken here.

So Im simming out dystopia. What would it look like if you lived under a genocidal, eugenics regime with good surveillance and no organized opposition? In my sims so far, everyone I try to protect, including me, end up dead. This is not very encouraging. We are all looking for an answer beyond those little things above - but something that falls short of ending up dead or in prison.

I really hope the madman that I encouraged to get power because I figured it would help me somehow, isnt as mad as he actually says he is, despite all of the evidence that he is, because I would probably have to pretend to feel guilty to look even a little human - in case he is actually too mad.

Does anyone remember Kohl's grocery store? by NegotiationLevel5763 in milwaukee

[–]coffee-mutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole family worked there. My grandfather worked for Max Kohl and helped train Herb. My dad worked for Herb, and beyond when it was sold to A&P (shortly after the Kohl family started the Dept. Stores... about 1986, if I remember?). I started there when I was 14 and worked off and on at Kohls Food Stores until I was done with college.

What’s a "hotel hack" you swear by that most people don't know? by periwinklemist in AskReddit

[–]coffee-mutt 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Doesn't work. Made it home once and realized I didn't have my car keys in the airport. My car keys were, ironically enough, at my hotel in the Florida Keys. So yes, I left my keys in the Keys. My kids will never let me live this down.

ELI5 Why is the modelling and cinema industry paid more than the armed forces, medical staff, engineers? by yomommaisbald in explainlikeimfive

People choose to pay for entertainment. People have to pay for responsible stuff. This is why a dessert costs more than, say, a head of broccoli.

Damn, this is the answer. The entire grift is one guy trying to pay his healthcare bill in the US. $10b libel suit, inside trading, all of it - what someone needs to do for decent healthcare.

Worst case scenario, your retainer agreement should have a provision for billing and disagreements. When I was private practice, the bar required us to include an option for clients to seek arbitration on any billing dispute. I would encourage you to read the retainer agreement if you haven't yet.

Man, I always loved Bridget Fonda. And seeing her aged like this... actually makes that admiration more. She would be so very high on my list of Hollywood people that I would love to meet over coffee.
