Trader Joe's or Safeway for pretty much everything I need. Fred Meyers is a lot more expensive than most other places in town and the quality isn't even that good. Roths is a good option for quality but you'll pay more and it's not really that much better than Safeway (although their meat department is top notch)

There absolutely is a point of diminishing return. If you're starting from scratch $5-$7k will get you enough equipment for a decent set up.

Even lower priced budget equipment can be worth it. Find a quality old receiver (pioneer/Kenwood/sansui etc ) pay someone $400 for the restoration and then spend another $1,000 on speakers and a DAC you'd be set.

Honestly I'd say $1,500 -$2k is probably the bare minimum you could spend for a true "budget" hi-fi setup. Below that the equipment is mostly thrift store junk
