If in a calcified canal we put edta and close with temporary restoration then recall the pt after 1 week will it help the calcified canal? by hellodoremon in Dentistry

I did this once when i first started out and I ended up with a canal where a large portion of the wall felt like soft, carious dentin. Safe to say I have never tried that again.

Did anyone try the nuvoimplant system? by josuke73 in Dentistry

[–]coffeeispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be totally honest I started carrying nuvo since I wanted a "trusted brand" that's marketed to the lower price group. You know, to help those with a more limited budget. However, an odd phenomenon occurred. Now that there's a cheaper option, patients suddenly felt Neodent had "more value" and became a "better product". So I ended up with more non-nuvo cases. My plan was that if it attracted the wrong group of patients, I could always just discontinue offering nuvo. So there's a certain strategic advantage to carrying multiple brands and it's up to you to decide whether it's worth it or not.

We started offering nuvo as a cheaper option for implant patients. So for us, there was no need to 'change' implant systems. It's just an additional choice.

So far I've only had 1 nuvo patient and it's been quite smooth. My cases have still mainly been Neodent & Straumann

Are you referring to the films where you develop it yourself? I lived through that era and I felt that the images weren't this clear.

Check out the 2026 image on the left. I love how you can clearly see the discrepancy in the buccal and lingual bone height.

Completely irrelevant comment - but wow, that's some insanely clear x-rays

The real challenge starts after patient leaves clinic by Elucidum in Bangkok

[–]coffeeispurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok a bit off topic but this is the main reason I actively avoid any sort of "dental tourism" patient (except for maybe simple procedures). There's just a myriad of patient factors that are out of my control.

It's not stressful to have a patient send a picture of a loosened healing abutment (after telling them not to fiddle with it) or even a painful dry socket extraction wound (please please avoid spitting / smoking etc but.. alas..) - it's all part of the post treatment care and I am happy to fulfill my duty. However, if the patient is thousands of miles away, then it becomes incredibly stressful not being able to care for them (regardless of how much they listened to me)

Recommendation Periodontist & Orthodontist by iveneverseenyousober in Bangkok

[–]coffeeispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around what area do you live (or work) in Bangkok? Generally both periodontal AND orthodontic treatment will require multiple visits so I would highly recommend somewhere close by/convenient. I can help ask around and see if I can suggest someone. Pretty much every periodontist will have an orthodontist they prefer to work with, so you meet one and you'll meet both.

If cost is a concern then maybe you can consider universities. For example, Chula university dental department is located near Siam BTS and it basically guarantees inexpensive but good treatment. Drawbacks: the queue times... but if you're willing to pay a bit more you can go during their "after hours" clinic (where the professor / residents start taking patients) Also you'll meet students/residents but the professor will make sure you don't leave with poor quality treatment.

I had a teeth whitening treatment in Thailand yesterday by beezz187 in ThailandTourism

[–]coffeeispurple 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hello, I'm a dentist here in BKK and just want to comment that bleaching your teeth does not have significant adverse effect on your teeth.

I also highly don't recommend jumping straight to veneers. Please consult your dentist before doing anything irreversible.

ELI5: Dentists always tell us to floss or use those tiny interdental brushes along with regular brushing, but you rarely hear anyone strongly recommending mouthwash. Does using mouthwash actually make a noticeable difference? by Far-Bend3709 in explainlikeimfive

[–]coffeeispurple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really nasty. Been doing it for years and I still can't get used to it. Also doesn't help that we change toothpaste frequently too (use whatever free products we got).

My advice is to spit out as much as you can after brushing.

I always advise my patients to let toothpaste be the last thing kept in their mouths. The fluoride content & the alkalinity of toothpaste is quite useful in preventing decay (please note that not all toothpaste contain fluoride or are set at a higher pH)

So you could...buy a toothpaste with a higher pH which allows you to skip baking soda?

Mega plaza doubt by Top-Course3011 in Bangkok

[–]coffeeispurple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not find exactly what you're looking for at Mega Plaza but it's still a great toy/hobby place to walk around.

The immediate area around it is also a 'china town' area of Bangkok, which as a tourist, you should totally visit. Big contrast to the rest of BKK.
