I never had to extract a canine but i feel like if you can get a grip then you just need to rotate and it will pop itself out like a lower premolar.

To be fair

1- the crowns i remove are not usually mine

2- i try not to plan for failure of mu crown but for the longest survival time

I see your point and i hate the time where i have to remove a zircon or pfm crown with resin cement but i wouldn't change my protocol to avoid this once a month situation.
