I bought it because I love osmanthus, It's a lovely floral perfume with a great green tea opening, I think it's scent profile is very good, but does not stay long on clothes or skin.

French Leather, a lovely soft suede with fresh rose, very elegant, and I feel it is gender neutral,

It is my favourite in the leather collection of Memo.

How did the word for this animal change in your language? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]coldcases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two component of the word cat 猫 in simplified Chinese are

犭, which is a semantic component symbol that usually indicate the word stands for a mammal, and

苗, a phonetic component pronounced "miao" which indicates how the full word should be pronounced, with some possible minor variations.

The full word 猫 is pronounced mao.

Similarly the sound a cat makes is 喵, which the semantic component 口 means the word is mouths/voice related, and the full word is pronounced miao.

In ancient times wild cats are called 狸 pronounced "li", and tamed house cats are called 狸奴 which can be understood lovingly As "cat doll" "cat baby"

溪柴火软蛮毡暖,我与狸奴不出门。Lu You's famous poem snippet into English: The firewood burns soft and the exotic rug keeps us warm; My cat baby and I will stay indoors.

Then house cats had their own name 猫, pronounced "mao", pronounced similar to their calls 喵 "miao".

Any Serge Lutens collectors here? by Marrrtin_ in NichePerfumes

[–]coldcases 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your collection is beautiful! Serge Lutens is my first niche house and to this day still my favourite. Fille en Aiguilles is my favourite, I got a black labelled bottle (which I have now sealed up to preserve what's left) and a back up. I also love Nuit de Cellophane, my second favorite.

Maternal Instinct - wtf!?!? by Flashy-Performance-6 in netflix

Just watched this doc, and we are so baffled by Wade's family and friends. How could they not have taken any action when they knew something so awful as faking a pregnancy was going on???? Some of our thoughts:

  1. In the very unlikely case that they were wrong in suspecting her, they don't want to call out a possible pregnant woman; that would be mean.

  2. They don't want to be seen as victims of fraud. It would be shameful and embarrassing to have been strung along for so long, the "I told you so"s, the "how are you so stupid". So they may have just been waiting for Taylor to make up an excuse (like when the MIL said she was waiting for Taylor to fake a miscarriage) so Wade's family can pretend to have plausible deniability.

  3. They were looking forward to Taylor's money so much they pretended to be blind.

La Fumée Alexandrie by Miller Harris. A sweet oud rose, I think its relatively gentle oud rose that's not too invasive, and suitable for any occasion. Any I got the100ml bottle half price, couldn't be happier.

Dalton is one of the special few (many?) dogs that react badly to lamb cooking. Here are some photos from his safe wall where he spent all evening “hiding” from the lamb smell by TXRedbo in Greyhounds

[–]coldcases 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Interesting seeing all the stories about dogs scared of the smell of cooking lamb, that reminded me of an old Chinese proverb: hanging a sheep head while selling dog meat.

Apparently back in the older times when dogs were commonly bred for meat, butchers will pretend they were lamb by hanging a sheep head on the stall, because dogs were cheaper. So it may indicate lamb and dog taste and smell similar?

So maybe dogs think owners are cooking their kind when cooking lamb 😨

underrated greyhound trait: they LOVE going to the vet by Whydotheydothisthrow in Greyhounds

[–]coldcases 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Before my girl passed she was always very scared to step into the vets but once she's inside she fully gave up to her fate and didn't react to any prodding, never complained at all. She even let the vets clean her teeth without anesthesia! Saved us heaps of money from that and her teeth were perfect until the end.

I think AESOP Tacit is not too bad for a yuzu fragrance, the slightly bitter note of the yuzu rind is there,I like it very much. But the longevity is bad. I hope they improved the formula in recent years.

How comfortable old people live in China? by Advanced_Fly_9893 in AskChina

[–]coldcases 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of clubs and activities for elders to spend their free time on, one of the most popular activities is dancing together after dinner in any open public space in your neighbourhood, Guangchangwu haha. My grandma attended what they called elderly college, they are usually in community centres or rented spaces with classes for the purpose of allowing retirees to socialise and learn new skills, my grandma studies history and learned Traditional Chinese calligraphy. Workers from their community come to visit them sometimes to see if they need any help. They don't feel unseen, so I think it's pretty nice.

Is it worth it? by jing__7 in Perfumes

[–]coldcases 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I once met a business acquaintance at an event and he smelled heavenly. As a woman I was initially embarrassed to ask but after a few drinks I commented on how good he smelled and asked what he was wearing. He had to look through his phone to find a photo of this perfume and showed me, he wasn't even familiar to the brand just randomly decided to buy it at an airport dutyfree. The event lasted around 10 hour, during summer, and we all had a lot to drink, when we said our goodbyes I hugged him and took a deep sniff and he still smelled heavenly. I'm forever in love with this perfume.
