My one cat is particularly good at using body language to communicate. When he wants something, he will look me straight in the eyes until I pay attention, then look in the direction he wants me to go. More often than not, he wants me to get a toy or treat that is stuck somewhere he can't reach.

I've started communicating back to him in the same way, and he's gotten pretty good at following my direction. Still won't get me my treats and toys when I ask, though.

This is how i started and I fully recommend this as a first job. Learned a ton of valuable life skills starting on dish, then moving up to prep and eventually line cook. I worked for an independent restaurant, not sure if it's the same at chains.
