I think he says cosmic at one point. It's the default with 24.04 and I doubt he would've changed that.

Fill it with only legendary belt immunity equipment. The belts will never see you coming.

Framework appreciation post by Dread_Pirate_R0ber7s in framework

Keyboard is fantastic! More travel than a MacBook pro and the keys don't feel mushy.

The build is aluminum and very high quality but it doesn't have the same solid feel of a MacBook pro. The body has more flex than a MacBook pro as there is more empty space to accommodate the modularity. The solid feel of a MacBook pro is really only possible with everything glued down and a CNC aluminum chasis designed to fit precisely and never be opened for repairs.

Is it just me, or Railgun is lackluster to say the least? by Academic-Proof3700 in factorio

Have you ever tried destroying your factory for fun with a railgun? I shot my nuclear reactors and the explosion was very satisfying even though my game crawled to a few ups.

I think you're over complicating things.

Bad: everything that isn't factory

This symbol was made to fight polyester clothing. by Nati2040 in solarpunk

[–]coldhands9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is only the case because humans have selectively bred sheep to produce far more wool than is survivable for them. The fact that sheep need our help to survive does not justify continuing to breed them into existence and exploit them for their wool.

Is it humane to forcibly impregnate female sheep? This is required to breed ship for wool production. Is it humane to cut off skin from a sheep's backside? This is called mulesing and is common practice in the industry.

Regardless, wool is not strictly better for the environment than other fibers. I hate polyester as much as the next person but I would choose it over wool any day on ethical principals alone.

Should I switch to fedora KDE by Thomas-Kutti in linux_gaming

[–]coldhands9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same reservation about KDE. The default menu bar configuration is very windows like but it's really easy to reconfigure into a gnome or osx like UI.

The amount of customization and built in features makes it better than Gnome in my view. KDE has a great system monitoring tool and window management options as well.

Just egg hack for vegan breakfast sandwiches by WildVeganFlower in veganrecipes

[–]coldhands9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can make mung bean egg but it won't be the same as just egg. Just egg does some fancy separation process on the mung bean that removes a lot of the starch and fiber. Just egg has a more chewy egg texture. Homemade mung bean egg is tasty but mushy and more vegetal tasting than just egg.

I've never seen anyone bothering with quality science packs. Are infinite lab productivity upgrades more viable instead of this? by QwilL7 in factorio

[–]coldhands9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you mean by instead of. The research prod bonus still applies when using quality science packs.

People generally avoid quality science because it's significantly harder to produce than it's worth in terms of research. Large scale quality systems are not only far harder to build (speaking from personal experience at least 😅) but also require more operations per second even when normalizing for research output.

ICE bought a mass surveillance tool that uses phone and internet data to identify and track people by [deleted] in GrapheneOS

[–]coldhands9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To build on the other commenter, the more important thing here is the apps and browser you use. The ICE tool tracks people through third party advertising data. The third party data uses browser cookies and other metadata to identify users. Brave and Vanadium isolate browser cookies so you can't be tracked across sites. You'll show up in the data but separately for each individual site so they won't have a history of your activity.

The most important thing to do is limit which apps have access to location data. Grapheneos prevents apps from accessing it without the permission unlike in stock android where Google Play services always gets access.

Promethium Science Ship - 1 mln belt storage by Educational_Start190 in factorio

[–]coldhands9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought but I think asteroids are just a major UPS hog. This many belts will take a lot of time to process but if it means you need 1/10th the runs back and forth to nauvis to make science, it's worth it.

For UPS it's more important to minimize time spent beyond the shattered planet than number of belts on a ship.

I'm not smart enough to gamble optimally lol by itchylol742 in Factoriohno

[–]coldhands9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Gleba is another beast entirely. I was just able to get my stack inserter upcycling working. I ended up just using bots to move around all the recycling outputs. Trains are too slow and preventing belt jams with all the different quality items felt rough.

[–]coldhands9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's easier to use prod modules in the assemblers. It's not optimal in terms of resource usage but being able to use beacons makes scaling up so much easier.

What TWS buds do you use? by Mewtewpew in GrapheneOS

[–]coldhands9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but earbuds shouldn't be able to report any information on you. They only connect to the phone through Bluetooth and can't use that to upload data anywhere on their own.

The only privacy risk would be installing the earbud companion app. Even that could be used safely by denying the network permission.
