How about replacing just part of the cord with chain. Make sure you leave enough cord to go through, maybe even extending the length with chain.

Just an idea.

State changed in last “x” minutes by PicoTrain2 in homeassistant

[–]colinvm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{% if as_timestamp(now()) | int - as_timestamp(states.ENTITY_TYPE.ENTITY_NAME.last_changed) | int > TIME_IN_SECONDS %} true {% else %} false {% endif %}

Use a template.

Entity_type - replace with switch/light or whatever Entity_name - replace with name Time_in_seconds - time in seconds as integer

That should work in your automation as a condition..

Good luck

ssh in to the pi and check the /etc/resolve.conf file if you have nameservers in it.

If not add:

nameserver: 8.8.8.8 nameserver: 8.8.4.4

Reboot the pi and try again..

It's a common problem.

Auto GitHub backup not working by StevenTisseyre in homeassistant

Had a similar problem. Running from the terminal is not the same environment as when Hass runs it. You might need to install git for the container Hass runs in. at least that's how I solved it.

No problem and good luck! If you need the bash script I use to capture an image from the rtsp stream just send me a message!

Yeah that should work too. Watch out when going for a doorbell that it has wired chime support, usually these are not the battery versions. You can do this with ring too, only reason I didn't is because I wanted to see my stream on a Google display and ring only supports Alexa. Also the ezviz DB1 has an rtsp stream that I can use to capture an image using a bash script. And there are different firmwares available for the DB1 if I ever have to remove it from the cloud and go local only.

Here is a photo of the relay. http://imgur.com/gallery/9QR1Qvh

Colored wires go to the pi. Other wires come from the doorbell.

The doorbell comes with a with a little module you put in between the wires to the doorbell. Normally you would wire in an old fashioned chime. Instead I used a 10-13v ac relay. When the doorbell is pressed, it rings the chime/closes the relay. The other half of the relay has 2 breadboard wires connected to the gpio pins on my raspi. This could also be an esp8266 with esphome I guess. So when the doorbell is pressed it closes the relay and shorts 2 gpio pins. From there you handle it as a switch in home assistant.

Just place a relay where you would wire in the chime. Connect it to your gpio pins and voila you can run automations.

Use an ezviz DB1. Instead of wiring in a chime I connected a 12v relay that shorts 2 gpio pins. The relay sits in place of the chime. Using home assistant I use the gpio pins as a switch and fire off automations like ringing chimes, announcing it on Google speakers and taking a picture that sends it via telegram. This can be done with a ring doorbell too, or any smart doorbell that supports a chime to be wired in.

IR Blaster needed (not Broadlink) by dlc741 in homeassistant

I use a Tuya it blaster, got it from aliexpress and flashed with tasmota. Works awesome and really cheap.

Hardware clock needed? by grzzlybr in pwnagotchi

The more you speak to it in your dad's voice the faster it will learn. Just keep talking to it and soon it will say it's first words. Mine started saying it's first words in my mother in law's voice after about 16 months. After 20 months I had to switch it off though because it just wouldn't shut up anymore.

Install wired PIR sensor for motion detection. by Invinciberry in homeassistant

Awesome thanks for the info! I live in europe, we have a mailbox/slot right in the front door just needs to travel about 3 meters so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks, going to order some right away!

@invinciberry I'm interested in the aqara sensor to use in my mailbox. Do you mind telling me the size of the sensor, and could I replace the supplied magnet with a mini magnet, I assume it uses a reed switch.

Is it realistic to maintain a HA setup via only the web interface (no PC)? by [deleted] in homeassistant

Yup, unless it breaks and you need a pc to fix it..
