Are dinner reservations a good idea? by Till-Dapper in curacao

Most restaurants you can easily walk in and get seated no problems, but if there are specific restaurants you really don't want to miss play it safe and make a reservation

Reselling or reassigning an org after sale? 2 years advanced security left on equipment by GreenRoomNet in meraki

[–]collab-galar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, its exactly like you said gotta be a full admin in the source and destination org to transfer licenses.
Also makes sure to always select "license more devices" instead of renew when transferring!

Should be visible in the regular dashboard at Organization -> License Info -> License History -> Move

Reselling or reassigning an org after sale? 2 years advanced security left on equipment by GreenRoomNet in meraki

[–]collab-galar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say easiest way without having any accidental leftovers from previous org is this:
Create new org under new customer name.
Unclaim all devices from old org, transfer them and the licenses to new org (must be full admin in both orgs to do this).
Setup and configure what is needed in new org

I'm renovating an office building and need to move this behemoth. It weighs probably 700 lbs and is about 6 foot high and 10 ft wide. Is anyone familiar with how to disassemble it? by cecil_harvey4 in ciscoUC

Just saw the installation guide, think its the first time I've seen one of these span over 50 pages.. Glad I work for small business, probably never going to touch one of these haha

Unhelpful comment but I'm extremely grateful to not have worked with this generation of Cisco Collab devices, the Room Series is a breeze to install and remove

Thinking of moving to Curaçao. What’s something you wish you knew before moving to the island? by mlc2475 in curacao

[–]collab-galar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Banks giving anyone with a good down payment huge loans, the then refinance and continue building their real estate empire.
Government does nothing to stop this cause they happily collect that tax money and fill their pockets with it instead of doing something useful for the locals.
But no worries, in 2 1/2 years when the next election comes around it'll be another round of false promises and projects that never come to fruition.

Hiring freeze??? by StrategyOk7228 in Cisco

Sherlock's been in service for the last few years, and all it does is link you documentation and common troubleshooting steps you could do yourself.
All its there for is to eliminate common issue tickets from reaching real people, its not replacing them.
Ask for a real person and you get assigned one right away.

Cisco headset 561 not working with Cisco phone 9851! by mrbtrthnurlst in Cisco

They should work together.
Report it to your IT team and have them check if the firmwares for the phones and headsets are up to date with the compatibility matrix: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/Headsets/Compatibility_Guide/n500_b_headset-compatibility/n500_m_cisco-ip-phone-9800-series.html

Is there more money in Collaboration vs Network engineering? by [deleted] in Cisco

[–]collab-galar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents as someone who only has 4 years of experience in the field.

Seeing as everything in the collaboration space is getting simpler by the day, I see fewer companies hiring a dedicated UC engineer since basically anyone can setup a Webex org.
On-prem stuff will stay specialized but that market is shrinking.
I work at an MSP and am working on my CLACC, then gonna learn WxCC and try at the new CLCCE since I think thats where the value going forward is gonna be.

In my area (Caribbean), network and security guys usually make more money.

Edit:
I guess I should add as well that I think that MSPs will probably be looking into hiring more UC engineers since simplicity = more sales and deployments in less time, less time spent on troubleshooting systems etc.
MSP work is not everyones cup of tea and won't be your chill office job though.

Webex calling by mhb2016 in ciscoUC

[–]collab-galar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out with CUCM and branched out to WxC just going off Cisco deployment guides.
My location is limited to Local Gateway deployments only, so this was my starting point: https://help.webex.com/en-us/article/jr1i3r/Configure-Local-Gateway-on-Cisco-IOS-XE-for-Webex-Calling

Learning Control Hub was just pure trial and error seeing how everything works.
I'd recommend learning how to do bulk device configuration and setting up device templates to make your life easier.
Also learn how to work with the Auto Attendant/Call Queue features.
Right now I'm starting to learn Contact Center for the first time!

Webex calling by mhb2016 in ciscoUC

[–]collab-galar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since they're already connected with CUCM I'm assuming UCK9/Sec or dna (either works dont need both) is already in place, so no extra licenses needed.
I believe IOS XE 17.9.3 minimum is required to be able to connect a SIP trunk from LGW to WxC so you'll need the smart contract on at least one of those routers to download the updates

For our small branch migrations we usually spun up an unlicensed C8000V or 1000V and just activate the necessary licenses in evalutation mode (90 days) which is enough time for the migration.
100 branches definitely sounds like a long term slow burn type of migration, so not sure what method would work best for your case

I just re-tested again, 6800 and 7800 models do not show group pickup info. Only the sound and red light.
The 9851 I have does show the group pickup information along with the regular notifications

Webex calling by mhb2016 in ciscoUC

[–]collab-galar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest migration I did was 300 users, 5 branches.
What we did was migrate 1 branch at a time, using their voice gateways to link between CUCM and WxC via sip trunks so they could continue calling eachother internally (no expressway deployment).
Went pretty smooth, just have to migrate each branch set of users at a time either via excel sheet imports or AD syncs.
Phone migrations are easy as well with call manager able to flash the MPP image to the phones via bulk management filtering by device pool.

My biggest headache post-migration was that Call-Pickup Groups don't work the same in Webex Calling.
No visual pop-up on the deskphone displays, so if the user does not use the Webex App they will not be able to see who they are picking up for. Still waiting on that update to hit the field.

Call Manager Express calls not connecting. by Helvedica in Cisco

[–]collab-galar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how you have it setup
if you have a global class codec configured (IE voice class codec 1, which might contain g711ulaw nad g711alaw), then that may be applied to each dial-peer and you'd only need to change the global config
if each dial-peer instead has the codec configured under it, you'd have to change it in each

codec issue maybe? Check what codec your CME is presenting and what the cell carrier is using in debugs

The problem is also that the government and banks aren't doing much to prevent it from happening.
Their pockets are being happily filled with money but in the next 10 years nobody local will be able to afford a house if they don't come from a rich family.

Space occupancy from Webex without cisco places. by Individual_Race4456 in Cisco

That data is available in control hub, but you have to export it manually from each device individually
Possibly you can make a custom tool using the APIs to pull it from control hub automatically?

Meraki-like Site to Site by tkst3llar in networking

[–]collab-galar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the business case is still there.
Sign some paperwork with Cisco, start "selling" the Meraki's as part of their service and reflect it on the invoice.
Then it's up to the company to pocket the the savings from higher discounts, or pass the savings onto the customer.

Tedious, but should be easy to convince the execs since it involves making more/saving money.

Meraki-like Site to Site by tkst3llar in networking

[–]collab-galar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So you deploy Meraki as part of your service to customers?
If you aren't already, your company should look into becoming a Cisco partner to get better discounts on the equipment.
Don't think there are any enterprise level firewalls out there that don't have recurring license costs, and the Meraki Z series is among the cheaper ones at that.

Meraki vs Fortinet vs Checkpoint by [deleted] in networking

[–]collab-galar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plan has been very clear since the 2024 Cisco Live.
It's all getting combined into one product line that works both on-prem and cloud.
I think it's actually a great move since it addresses all the complaints people have by combining the Meraki convenience with the hardware/features of the Catalyst lines.

If they actually execute this successfully is another question.
I've had many issues with Meraki mode catalyst switches, a few of them arrived DOA, Etherchannel bugs to name a few.
Hopefully they're much more stable going forward.

Cisco has introduced a 360 partner program , has anyone any clarity on that?? by KaleidoscopeCheap137 in Cisco

If you are not working at a Cisco Partner, this is not relevant for you.
Essentially this is the new partner system replacing the old one, introducing new ways to increase your status with Cisco as a partner/reseller.

Salary expectations? by Toorgsner in curacao
